Grok Bot is built around multiple Bots that can divide work and run saved routines; ChatGPT Dots are ongoing agents that carry tasks and context across ChatGPT conversations. The better fit depends on how you want work organized, which apps and permissions you need, and whether you already have an eligible subscription. Neither has a directly comparable public allowance, so their listed plan prices do not establish which costs less for equivalent work.

How do Grok Bot and ChatGPT Dots work differently?

Both products are described by their providers as persistent agents: they can continue work beyond a single chat interaction. The distinction is how that work is organized.

Question Grok Bot ChatGPT Dots
How is work organized? Users can create multiple Bots to handle tasks in parallel and hand work between them. xAI says Bots can learn a workflow as a saved routine. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot) A Dot carries ongoing work forward between ChatGPT conversations, tracks progress, and can ask for the user’s judgment when needed. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)
What computer does it use? xAI says a user’s Bots share one persistent cloud computer, including its files, browser, and logins. The computer is shared among that user’s Bots, not isolated per Bot. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot) OpenAI describes each Dot as having its own cloud computer and browser for research, files, and software. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)
Can it keep working when your devices are off? xAI says Bots run 24/7, including when the laptop is closed. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot) OpenAI says cloud work can continue while your devices are off. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)
How does it interact with connected information? xAI describes signing Bots into apps and websites. The specific access available depends on the accounts and tools involved. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot) OpenAI says connected-information research is read-only; follow-up actions require applicable permissions. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)

These are company descriptions, not independent performance tests. They do not establish that either service can access every app, complete every task, or make fewer mistakes.

Which one better matches your workflow?

Consider Grok Bot if you want work split across Bots

Grok Bot’s documented design is a natural one to investigate if you want distinct Bots to work in parallel, pass work to one another, or repeat a workflow as a saved routine. Because those Bots share a cloud computer, their files, browser, and logins are not separated by Bot. Consider whether that shared environment suits the way you want to organize access and work. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot)

Consider ChatGPT Dots if you want an ongoing agent in ChatGPT

Dots are described as carrying context from ChatGPT conversations and saved notes, tracking progress, and returning with results or questions that need your judgment. That design may suit someone who wants an ongoing task companion inside ChatGPT rather than a set of collaborating Bots. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)

Check integrations and permissions before choosing

Product descriptions alone do not tell you whether an agent can reach a particular service or perform a particular action. Check the connectors and account permissions available to your plan, and identify whether a workflow requires read-only information access or permission to take follow-up actions. OpenAI explicitly describes connected-information research for Dots as read-only; xAI describes signing Grok Bots into apps and websites. Neither description guarantees access to every service. (OpenAI; xAI)

Access route Published monthly price What the cited plan information says
Cursor Pro with Grok Bot $20/month xAI lists Grok Bot access through Cursor Pro, including its computer, tool sign-in, scheduled routines, cross-device work, and weekly usage. This is a qualifying subscription route, not a standalone Grok Bot price. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot)
SuperGrok with Grok Bot $30/month xAI lists Grok Bot access with SuperGrok, alongside the Grok model, connectors, higher limits, and image and video creation. Weekly usage is included; additional usage may be billed based on token cost. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot; xAI, Compare Grok Plans)
ChatGPT Pro 100 $100/month OpenAI lists this Pro tier and says eligible Pro users receive a first Dot at no extra charge. (OpenAI Help Center, About ChatGPT Pro tiers; OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)
ChatGPT Pro 200 $200/month OpenAI lists this Pro tier; its first Dot is included for eligible users. (OpenAI Help Center, About ChatGPT Pro tiers; OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)
ChatGPT Pro 500 $500/month OpenAI lists this Pro tier as including Astra Ultrafast and the highest included usage of its three Pro plans; the first Dot is included for eligible users. (OpenAI Help Center, About ChatGPT Pro tiers; OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)
ChatGPT Business Premium Not stated in the cited OpenAI pages OpenAI says eligible Business Premium users can access Dots, but the reviewed pages do not establish a price. (OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)

The figures are not prices for equivalent agent usage. Grok Bot access comes through qualifying subscriptions with plan-dependent weekly usage and possible token-cost overages. OpenAI says eligible plans include an allowance for deeper work and expanded limits during the first month after launch, but the cited material does not provide a simple task-equivalent allowance. Compare the complete plan you would actually buy and its usage terms rather than treating the entry prices as a like-for-like cost test. Who can access them, and where?

Grok Bot access routes

xAI lists individual access through Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra, SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, and Heavy, as well as Cursor Standard and Premium Teams and Enterprise. Its product information identifies macOS, Windows, and iOS support for desktop and mobile use. Cursor documentation says access is through eligible Cursor plans or a linked individual SuperGrok subscription; included weekly usage depends on plan. Enterprise access is generally available subject to sales setup. Check the current plan and device requirements before subscribing. (xAI, Meet Grok Bot; Cursor, Plans and billing)

ChatGPT Dots access and regional limits

OpenAI says Dots are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users in supported markets, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Business Premium users can access them across supported ChatGPT regions. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users can try the beta when an administrator enables it; it is initially off by default. Rollout is gradual, so an eligible plan may not yet show the feature in a particular account. (OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)

How do you get started with a Dot?

  1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app or desktop web and create the Dot there. OpenAI says creation is not currently supported in the mobile app or mobile web. (OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)
  2. Provide the context or saved notes relevant to the work you want it to carry forward, then give it a task. OpenAI describes Dots as using that context to track progress and work out next steps. (ChatGPT Learn, Meet dots)
  3. Use the ChatGPT mobile app to message the Dot later when supported. OpenAI also describes connecting messaging channels such as Slack or texting from desktop; texting may incur message or data rates. (OpenAI Help Center, ChatGPT release notes)
