GPU prices in August 2026 are unusually difficult to read. A card’s launch MSRP may be hundreds or thousands of dollars below its current retail price, while a price tracker may place a used eBay listing beside a new Amazon or Newegg product.
The clearest current picture combines Tom’s Hardware’s lowest-price tracking, updated August 6, with VideoCardPrices’ live August 9 snapshot. The tables below separate observed new prices from historical lows and explain which listings are actually worth considering.
Best GPU deals available in the August 9 snapshot
These are the most defensible deals among the current new listings. They are not guaranteed checkout prices: retailer stock, seller, shipping, and regional availability can change quickly.

Lowest tracked prices for current-generation GPUs
Tom’s Hardware’s August 6 tracker reports the lowest observed U.S. price for selected board-partner models. “Lowest observed” is a market snapshot, not a guaranteed price on August 9. The historical low is useful for judging whether a current listing is expensive, but it is not necessarily still available.

Current prices for older RTX 40-series and Radeon RX 7000 cards
Older does not automatically mean cheaper. Nvidia’s RTX 40-series is no longer in production, so remaining inventory can be scarce. A listing may also be used, refurbished, ex-mining, or sold by a third-party marketplace seller.

Why GPU prices are still elevated
The market is not showing one simple shortage story. New cards are generally available from major retailers, but the prices are high. Tom’s Hardware attributes the pressure to elevated memory costs and very large AI data-center memory orders. That is a reported market explanation, not proof that every individual price increase is caused directly by AI demand.
Higher-memory cards appear especially exposed. The RTX 5090 has 32GB and carries an August 6 tracked low of $4,381, compared with its $1,999 launch MSRP. Its August 9 new listing was even higher at $4,598.90.
Rank #3
- Modern Intel Arc Value: Features the Intel Arc B570 GPU with a 2600 MHz clock speed, built on the efficient Intel Xe2-HPG architecture for smooth 1440p gaming performance.
- Advanced AI Upscaling: Leverages Intel Xe Super Sampling 2 (XeSS 2) and Xe Matrix Extensions (XMX) for AI-powered frame generation, boosting performance and image quality in supported games.
- Ample 10GB GDDR6 Memory: Equipped with 10GB of high-speed GDDR6 VRAM, providing a solid buffer for high-detail textures and smooth gameplay at 1440p resolution.
- Efficient Gold-Rated Power: The PRO-650G PSU is 80 PLUS Gold certified and ATX3.1 ready, delivering stable, clean, and highly efficient power to maximize system performance.
- Effective & Quiet Cooling: The GPU's dual Striped Axial Fan design and 0dB Silent Cooling ensure effective heat dissipation and total silence during light usage or idle states.
The RX 9070 XT shows the same gap at a less extreme level: AMD launched it at $599, but current new listings are around $719 to $740. The RTX 5090 and RX 9070 XT therefore should not be described simply as “$1,999” and “$599” cards unless the text clearly means launch MSRP.
How to verify that a GPU listing is a real deal
- Check the condition. Confirm that the product is new rather than used, refurbished, open-box, or pulled from another system.
- Check the seller. On Amazon and Newegg, the product page may switch to a third-party seller. Read the exact “sold by” and “shipped by” fields.
- Calculate the delivered price. Include shipping, sales tax, import charges, and any required membership fee.
- Read the return policy. A low price is less attractive if returns are restricted or the buyer pays expensive return shipping.
- Verify warranty coverage. Some manufacturers limit warranty service to the original purchaser or authorized retailers.
- Compare the exact model. Board-partner versions can differ in cooler size, power connector, factory overclock, noise, and physical length.
- Check your system. Confirm PSU capacity and connectors, case clearance, motherboard compatibility, and whether your CPU will bottleneck the card at your target resolution.
Do not compare a used eBay price directly with a new retail offer. The August 9 snapshot includes used examples such as an RX 7600 at $200, RTX 5060 at $290, RX 9060 XT 16GB at $449.99, RTX 5070 Ti at $899.99, RTX 5080 at $1,199.99, and RTX 5090 at $3,680. Those prices may be attractive, but they carry different risks and should be evaluated separately.

What to buy at different budgets
| Budget | Shortlist | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|
| About $260 | Arc B570 or RX 7600 | The B570 is the cheapest current new listing in the snapshot. |
| About $310–$350 | Arc B580, RTX 5050, RTX 5060 | The B580 offers 12GB; compare the games and features you use. |
| About $430–$470 | RTX 5060 Ti 8GB or RX 9060 XT 16GB | The AMD card is the current new 16GB value listing. |
| About $630–$720 | RTX 5070, RX 9070, RX 9070 XT | The RX 9070 is $649.99 and the XT is $719.99 in the live snapshot. |
| $950 and above | RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 | Check whether the premium over the lower-tier cards fits your resolution and refresh-rate target. |
These are price-based shortlists, not a universal performance ranking. Game support, resolution, ray tracing, upscaling, creator software, VRAM requirements, power consumption, and card dimensions can change the best choice for a particular PC.
FAQ
What is the cheapest new GPU in the August 9, 2026 snapshot?

Is the RTX 5090 really available for $1,999?
$1,999 was the RTX 5090 launch MSRP. The August 6 Tom’s Hardware tracker showed a lowest observed price of $4,381, while the August 9 live snapshot showed a new listing at $4,598.90. Occasional direct-sales events may offer Founders Edition cards at MSRP, but $1,999 is not a normal current retail price.
Should I buy a used eBay GPU to save money?
It can make sense, but treat it as a separate category. Confirm the card’s condition, remaining warranty, seller reputation, return period, cooling and fan condition, and whether it was used for mining. A used price should not be compared directly with a new card that includes standard retailer protections.
Why are older RTX 40-series cards sometimes more expensive than newer GPUs?
The RTX 40-series is no longer in production. Scarce remaining stock can command a premium, and some listings are used, refurbished, or third-party offers. For example, the tracked RTX 4090 price was $3,449 versus its $1,599 launch MSRP.

The Bottom Line
The strongest current new-budget choices are the Intel Arc B570 at $259.99 and Arc B580 at $309.99. For 16GB, the RX 9060 XT was listed at $448.99 on Newegg. At the higher end, the RX 9070 at $649.99 is easier to justify than the RX 9070 XT at $719.99, although both remain above launch pricing.
Use the figures as dated reference points rather than promises. Before buying, open the retailer listing and verify seller, condition, warranty, shipping, and returns. The price tracker’s cheapest number is only a deal when it describes the same product and purchase protections you are actually getting.
