Yes—compatible GoPro cameras can work as a computer webcam. Connect the camera to your computer over USB-C, then select it as the camera source in your video app. Compatibility depends on the exact GoPro model and computer operating system, so check GoPro’s current webcam setup instructions before you begin.
What you need to know before connecting a GoPro
GoPro’s HERO10 Black manual says webcam mode is the camera’s default and directs users to connect it to a computer with the included USB-C cable. The manual points to GoPro’s webcam setup page for the remaining instructions. That guidance is specific to the HERO10 manual; it does not establish that every GoPro model works with every computer or conferencing app.
GoPro’s HERO10 product page advertises Webcam Mode and the GoPro Webcam App, but labels Windows support as beta. Check the current setup page for your camera and operating system rather than assuming the same software flow applies to every model.

How to use a GoPro as a webcam
- Confirm compatibility. Check GoPro’s current webcam instructions for your exact camera model and computer operating system.
- Update or install what GoPro specifies. Follow the instructions for your model. GoPro’s July 2020 HERO8 Black announcement described a firmware update and installation of the GoPro Webcam desktop utility; that launch-era sequence should not be treated as a universal current requirement.
- Connect the camera by USB-C. The HERO10 manual specifies the included cable. If your computer does not detect the camera, make sure the cable supports data, then consult GoPro’s current troubleshooting guidance.
- Select the camera in your video app. Open the conferencing or capture application’s camera settings and choose the GoPro source if it appears. The app list GoPro published for HERO8 in 2020 is historical, not a guarantee of current compatibility.
- Check the shot before using it. Confirm framing and exposure in the application. GoPro’s manual describes camera exposure controls, but the sources here do not establish a dedicated webcam lighting or audio workflow. Check the sound in your actual setup rather than assuming a particular microphone or audio-routing method will work.

Webcam use is different from direct live streaming
In a webcam setup, the GoPro sends its camera feed to a computer so a computer application can use it as a camera source. Direct live streaming is a separate camera-and-app workflow. GoPro’s live-streaming guide describes streaming through the GoPro app, including direct platform options and RTMP destinations. Do not assume the webcam utility, GoPro Quik live-stream setup, and a platform’s computer-broadcasting tools are interchangeable. Platform availability and account requirements can change, so check GoPro’s live-streaming guidance separately if you intend to stream directly.

Positioning and practical limits
A mount or tripod can help hold the camera at a useful angle, but it is optional. GoPro’s 2020 announcement named the Shorty grip-and-tripod mount as one example for a cooking-class perspective. The important setup decision is to frame the shot for the call or demonstration; no particular accessory is required by the cited webcam instructions.
The available documentation does not establish a universal webcam resolution, a complete list of supported video apps, or a full troubleshooting sequence across models. If the camera does not appear as a source, start by rechecking GoPro’s model-specific setup instructions and confirming that the USB-C cable carries data; avoid relying on old app lists or a different camera model’s settings.
