This October 9, 2026, episode of MobileSyrup’s SyrupCast brings together editor-in-chief Jon Lamont and devices editor Dean Daley to discuss recently handled tech: the ASUS Googlebook 14, Bell Ahlo 2, and three very different smart-glasses concepts. The episode description also mentions favourite discontinued Google products, but doesn’t name them. For readers asking whether Googlebooks are worth considering, the key caveat is that the laptop discussion is framed as early impressions—not a completed review.
What the episode covers
The episode is a broad roundup rather than a single-product review. Its listed subjects include a Googlebook laptop, a Bell phone, Snap Specs, MemoMind One, Xreal Aura, and a discussion of discontinued Google products. The description presents the laptop and phone coverage as early thoughts after roughly a week of use.
The product details below come from MobileSyrup’s separate hands-on and first-impressions articles published around the episode, not from attributed comments in the episode audio. That distinction matters: those articles offer useful specifics, but they do not establish that the hosts made every point in the same way on the podcast.

Is the ASUS Googlebook 14 worth considering?
MobileSyrup’s October 5, 2026, first-impressions article describes the ASUS Googlebook 14 as a GooglebookOS laptop that combines elements of Android and ChromeOS with Gemini features. Its hardware appears ambitious for a device still being assessed for how well its software fits real desktop work.

What the early coverage says
- Display: 14-inch 3K, 120Hz OLED touchscreen.
- Other hardware: six-speaker audio and a six-sensor haptic touchpad.
- Configurations described: Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7 Series 3 processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of SSD storage.
The reviewer praised the hardware but ran into practical compatibility questions: installing desktop Linux Firefox proved difficult, and the Photoshop version available was the Android app. Those are meaningful signs that impressive specifications alone don’t answer whether GooglebookOS can replace a conventional desktop operating system for a particular workflow.
The article describes only enough use to set up and explore the laptop and says a full review was still to come. It therefore does not settle longer-term performance, app compatibility, battery life, or value. The mention of an Amazon promotion in that article is not evidence of today’s price or stock.

How the three smart-glasses approaches differ
These products are not a controlled, side-by-side comparison. MobileSyrup’s coverage describes different design choices and use cases, and the prices below are the figures reported in those dated articles—not confirmation of current offers or availability.
| Product | Design and interaction | Reported price and availability | What the coverage establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| MemoMind One | Camera-free glasses with dual micro-LED displays, open-ear speakers, and a small proprietary charging adapter. | Starting at US$399 (C$567), as reported October 8, 2026. | A hands-on account of display positioning, navigation, notifications, and translation; not an independently replicated test. |
| Snap Specs | Standalone spatial AR glasses with full-colour waveguide displays and hand tracking. | US$2,195 (C$3,107), as reported October 5, 2026; Canadian availability was unknown at the time. | A roughly 25-minute tryout at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2026, including brief translation and AR demonstrations. |
| Xreal Aura | Optical see-through glasses tethered to a compute puck; runs Android XR and supports hand tracking. | C$1,829 for 12GB RAM/256GB storage, or C$2,149 for 16GB/512GB, as reported October 7, 2026. No official release date had been scheduled at publication. | Coverage describes Google Play app support, Bose audio, and a 70-degree field of view; it does not establish a general thermal benchmark. |
MemoMind One: a camera-free option
Dean Daley’s October 8 hands-on describes MemoMind One as an AI-glasses design that omits a camera, addressing privacy concerns associated with wearable recording. The article reports a 46.6g weight, adjustable display position, dual micro-LED displays, open-ear stereo speakers tuned with Harman technology, and a triple-microphone array. Navigation, notifications, and real-time translation are among the described functions.

While the all-in-one button enables seamless control of power/flashlight/answering/hanging up/playing/pausing and wake-up the voice assistant —all with intuitive presses.
The trade-offs noted include single-button controls and a proprietary charging dongle. Its camera-free design avoids recording through the glasses, but the article’s feature list should not be taken as proof that every AI function works equally well in every setting.
Snap Specs: standalone spatial AR, with limited hands-on evidence
MobileSyrup’s October 5 report describes Snap Specs as processing independently rather than relying on a tethered compute puck. It reports full-colour waveguide displays, hand tracking, and short demonstrations of translation and augmented reality. The tryout lasted approximately 25 minutes at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit 2026, so it is a narrow preview rather than an extended assessment. The article also said Canadian availability was unknown; its reported US$2,195 (C$3,107) price should not be read as a confirmed Canadian retail offer.

Xreal Aura: glasses plus a compute puck
In October 7 coverage, Xreal Aura is described as optical see-through glasses connected to a compute puck running Android XR. The reported feature set includes Google Play apps, hand tracking, Bose audio, and a 70-degree field of view. The two Canadian launch prices and storage configurations in the table were reported at that time, when an official release date had not yet been set.

What the Bell Ahlo 2 early impressions tell you
MobileSyrup’s October 7, 2026, early impressions describe the Bell Ahlo 2 as a C$335 phone with a matte 6.9-inch, 120Hz Nxtpaper display and Android 16. Reported specifications include a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage expandable by microSD to 2TB, and a 5,200mAh battery.
The article says Bell had not identified the underlying TCL model. Its author’s suggestion that the phone resembles the TCL Nxtpaper 70 Pro is an inference based on appearance and similar specifications, not a confirmed identification. The author had used the phone for only a few days and said more testing was needed, particularly for camera performance. C$335 is the reported retail price; financing through a carrier plan can change the total cost.
What this episode can—and cannot—answer
The episode’s lineup gives listeners a useful snapshot of emerging hardware: a laptop whose software compatibility remains an open question, a phone built around a distinctive display, and glasses that range from camera-free AI eyewear to standalone or puck-powered AR. The separate product articles add concrete specifications and early observations, but none of the laptop or phone coverage cited here is a completed long-term review, and the glasses reports are not a common side-by-side test.
The description says the hosts also discuss favourite discontinued Google products but does not identify those products. Without named products or attributable details, there is no reliable basis to list what they discussed.
