Googlebook’s Home screen can hold widgets, apps, and files, while a built-in shortcut helper lets you find and customize keyboard commands. Use widgets for quick, glanceable information; use shortcuts and folders to reach or organize work. Google documents these features for Googlebook, not for every ChromeOS device.
How to add and arrange widgets on Googlebook
- Right-click an empty area of the Home screen and select Browse widgets.
- Choose a widget, select Add, then drag it into position.
- To move it later, drag it within the page or toward the left or right edge to move it to another Home screen page.
Widgets are intended for information or interactions you want to see without opening an app. Google also supports custom AI widgets; their creation and availability are covered below.
How to put apps and files on the Home screen
Add apps
Right-click an app and select Add to Home screen, or drag it from All apps. To add an app to the Taskbar, use its context menu or drag it to the Taskbar.

Drag one app onto another to create an app group. Open the group and select its current title to rename it. To make a folder for files, right-click an empty Home screen area and select New folder. Apps and files cannot be combined in the same group or folder.

Move or remove items
Drag apps, folders, and widgets to reposition them or move them between Home screen pages. To remove an item, open its context menu and select Remove. A page becomes unnecessary and is removed automatically when it has no apps, folders, or widgets.
How to find and customize keyboard shortcuts
Press Google G + / to open the shortcut helper. You can also go to Settings > Device & accessories > Keyboard > Physical keyboards > View keyboard shortcuts. The helper lists shortcuts for navigation, screenshots, window management, workspaces, apps, accessibility, and input. It also lets you add, edit, or delete bindings, reset them, and fix shortcut issues. Check the helper for the current mapping on your device.

These are examples from Google’s shortcut list; the helper is the place to confirm mappings and change bindings.
How to create a custom AI widget
- Right-click an empty Home screen area, choose Browse widgets, then select Create.
- Choose a suggested category or describe what you want. Categories include Sports & fitness, Weather, Important dates, Finance, World Clock, Tools & Tips, Daily habits, and Events & Travel.
- Review the preview for accuracy, inspect the style options, and edit the widget’s content or colors by describing the change.
- Select the option to add it to the Home screen, then use the resize handles to adjust its size.
Google gives examples such as “Show me the next soccer game,” “Countdown to Tokyo vacation on November 12,” and “Show my upcoming flight status.” For an existing widget, right-click it and choose Settings to revise it conversationally. Google says a compact widget can show the next event, while an expanded one can display more lists, timelines, or detail. If you remove a widget by mistake, select Undo within five seconds.

Google lists Create My Widget as available in English in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India. The feature page does not establish availability in other languages or countries.

Google’s documentation establishes the available setup workflows, but it does not claim measured productivity gains. In an October 6, 2026 early-use account, Chrome Unboxed’s Robby Payne described configuring agenda, Clock, Gemini prompt, and Weather widgets, along with categorized app and file folders on a Lenovo Googlebook 15. Those are his observations from a short test, not a guaranteed list for every device or user. He also noted that the Home screen can be left bare if visible items would create clutter.
