Use Samsung’s built-in Settings for ordinary Galaxy customisation; install Good Lock when you need controls that One UI does not expose. Good Lock is an optional collection of modules, not a replacement for the phone’s standard settings. It adds targeted controls for areas such as the lock screen, Quick panel, status bar, home screen, themes, wallpaper, keyboard, navigation and sound. The right choice depends on the change you want, and on whether your Galaxy model, region and software version support the required module.
This guide shows where the two approaches overlap, what Good Lock adds, how to choose a module, and how to avoid following instructions that your device cannot support.
Built-in Settings and Good Lock solve different problems
Every supported Galaxy phone includes Samsung’s standard One UI customisation controls. They are integrated into the Settings app and cover the changes most owners make: wallpaper, colours, display options, sounds, notifications, navigation, the lock screen and home-screen basics. You do not need another app to use them.

Each module concentrates on one interface or behaviour area and exposes more granular controls than the corresponding One UI page. For example, Sound Assistant adds per-app and more precise volume controls, while QuickStar changes status-bar and Quick-panel presentation. You install only the modules you need.

- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
That makes this an “extension versus foundation” comparison, not a contest in which one option is universally better. Built-in Settings are simpler and available on the phone from the start. Good Lock is worthwhile when a specific limitation matters to you and the relevant module is available for your device.

What you can change without Good Lock
Start in Settings when the change is conventional. Labels differ slightly between One UI releases and Galaxy models, but the following areas are normally available without installing anything.
Wallpaper, colours and basic themes
Use Settings > Wallpaper and style to choose a home- or lock-screen image, apply a colour palette where supported, and adjust the appearance of standard interface elements. The built-in options are enough if you want a static wallpaper and Samsung’s normal palette choices.
Samsung’s standard theme controls also let you select downloadable themes and icon styles where those options are offered for your model and region. They do not expose every individual element for separate editing.
Lock screen and Always On Display basics
Open Settings > Lock screen (or the similarly named lock-screen page in your One UI version) to select the clock style, notifications and Always On Display behaviour. You can usually choose from Samsung’s supplied layouts and widgets, but the number and placement of elements are constrained by the built-in editor.
Home screen, folders and navigation
Settings > Home screen controls the home-screen grid, app-screen arrangement, app icon badges and related basics. Navigation settings under Settings > Display > Navigation bar let you select buttons or gestures and adjust the available gesture options. These controls change the overall behaviour, not every detail of the layout.

Quick panel and status-bar basics
Pull down the Quick panel and use its edit controls to reorder available toggles and adjust which controls are shown. Notification settings control alerts and status-bar indicators. If you need to hide particular icons, change the panel’s arrangement more extensively or alter its layout, the built-in editor may not provide that level of control.

Sound and volume basics
Settings > Sounds and vibration covers ringtone, notification and system-volume levels, vibration behaviour, sound mode and standard audio effects. The volume panel applies Samsung’s normal controls to the phone as a whole. For independent app levels or a redesigned panel, Good Lock’s Sound Assistant is the relevant extension.
What Good Lock adds, module by module
Good Lock’s value comes from matching a module to a narrowly defined task. Samsung’s published module lists and descriptions can differ by region and software version, so treat these as capabilities the modules may provide rather than a promise that every switch appears on every Galaxy.
| Module | Additional controls described by Samsung | Use it when… |
|---|---|---|
| QuickStar | Status-bar visibility and Quick-panel options, including presentation and layout choices | You want a cleaner status bar or a Quick panel arranged beyond the standard editor |
| LockStar | Lock-screen and Always On Display clocks, component placement, widgets and stickers | You need to move or combine lock-screen elements rather than choose only Samsung’s preset layouts |
| Theme Park | Custom themes and interface elements such as the keyboard, Quick panel, volume panel and icons | You want to edit several visual components as a coordinated theme |
| Home Up | Home-screen, app-screen, folder and recent-app layout and behaviour options | The standard home-screen grid or recent-app layout is too restrictive |
| Sound Assistant | Per-app and more granular volume controls plus volume-panel customisation | You want one app quieter than another, finer volume steps or a different volume panel |
| Wonderland | Animated lock- and home-screen wallpapers built from layered design elements and motion effects | You want a moving, layered wallpaper rather than a static image |
| One Hand Operation+ | Additional edge-gesture actions for one-handed operation | You want more configurable swipe gestures for navigation or shortcuts |
Samsung’s regional support material also lists modules and functions that may not appear identically elsewhere. Check the module catalogue shown in Good Lock on your own phone before planning a setup.
Good Lock’s strongest practical advantage: finer audio control
Standard sound settings treat volume primarily as a device-level adjustment. Sound Assistant addresses situations in which that is not enough: music may be too loud while a video call is quiet, or you may want smaller increments than the normal volume buttons provide. Samsung describes it as adding sound settings beyond standard One UI controls and says, “Good Lock’s Sound Assistant was designed to address exactly these everyday audio frustrations.” That is Samsung’s description, not an independent test result.

If a documented switch is missing, compatibility—not a setup mistake—is the most likely explanation.

Good Lock’s strongest visual advantages
Theme Park for coordinated interface changes
Built-in wallpaper and colour controls are intentionally simple. Theme Park lets you work on a broader set of interface elements, including the keyboard, Quick panel, volume panel and icons. This is useful when you want those components to share a deliberate colour scheme instead of accepting the automatic palette.
Theme Park does not turn every Galaxy screen into an unrestricted design canvas. Its controls and generated themes still depend on the One UI version and the device’s supported components.
Wonderland for animated wallpapers
Wonderland creates animated lock- and home-screen wallpapers from layered artwork and motion effects. It is a different category from the static wallpaper picker in Settings. Use it when movement and depth are the goal; use the built-in picker when you simply need a reliable still image and minimal battery or setup complexity.

LockStar is aimed at the arrangement problem: deciding where the clock, widgets, stickers and other lock-screen components sit. The Samsung India support guide describes controls for both the lock screen and Always On Display. The exact component list and editing flow can vary, so confirm what your phone exposes before designing a layout around a particular widget.
How to install and configure Good Lock safely
Good Lock is distributed through Samsung’s Galaxy Store. The current listing information available for this article showed version 3.0.16.6, dated 2026-07-14; app versions and module availability can change after that date.
- Check your software first. Open Settings > About phone > Software information and note the One UI and Android versions. Samsung’s Ukraine support article, updated 2026-02-25, says Android 7 and earlier do not support Good Lock.
- Open the Galaxy Store. Search for Good Lock and install Samsung’s app. The store listing warns that some devices may not be supported.
- Open Good Lock and inspect the available modules. Do not assume that a module listed in a guide will appear on your phone. Availability can vary by model, region and software version.
- Install only the module for your goal. For example, choose Sound Assistant for per-app volume, Home Up for home-screen behaviour, or QuickStar for status-bar and Quick-panel controls.
- Make one change at a time. Open the installed module from Good Lock, record the original setting, apply the change and test it from the relevant screen. This makes it clear which module caused an unexpected result.
- Update or remove a module if necessary. Return to the Galaxy Store to check for updates. If a change causes trouble, turn that option off inside the module or uninstall the module; the underlying built-in Settings remain separate.
Menu names and preview screens are not identical across Galaxy generations. A missing menu is a compatibility signal, not evidence that you have overlooked a hidden button.

Task-by-task: which option should you choose?
| Your goal | Start here | Move to Good Lock when… |
|---|---|---|
| Change a static wallpaper or colour palette | Settings > Wallpaper and style | You need animated, layered motion (Wonderland) or more detailed element styling (Theme Park) |
| Select a lock-screen clock or Always On Display style | Settings > Lock screen | You need custom placement of clocks, widgets or stickers (LockStar) |
| Reorder common Quick-panel buttons | Quick panel edit controls | You want additional visibility and layout choices (QuickStar) |
| Set ringtone and notification volume | Settings > Sounds and vibration | You need per-app levels, finer increments or a different volume panel (Sound Assistant) |
| Change the home-screen grid or app-screen basics | Settings > Home screen | You need deeper home, folder or recent-app behaviour (Home Up) |
| Choose gesture or button navigation | Settings > Display > Navigation bar | You want extra edge gestures and actions (One Hand Operation+) |
If the built-in control already does what you need, Good Lock adds installation and compatibility overhead without a corresponding benefit. If the built-in page cannot expose the specific control, identify the module first rather than installing Good Lock indiscriminately.
Compatibility, regional differences and currentness
Good Lock is not a uniform feature set across all Galaxy phones. Samsung states that availability may vary by model, region and software version, and the Galaxy Store listing notes that some devices may not be supported. A module can therefore be documented by Samsung yet absent from your store listing or missing particular functions after installation.
Android version is another boundary. Samsung’s Ukraine support material says Android 7 and earlier do not support Good Lock. Newer Android and One UI releases can also change labels, module requirements and the location of built-in controls. Use the version information on your phone and the live Galaxy Store listing as the final authority.
These qualifications matter especially when following step-by-step videos or screenshots made for another country or an older One UI release. Compare the module name, supported device information and the date of the instructions before changing settings.
What the download figures do—and do not—show
Samsung Global Newsroom reported cumulative downloads in an article published 2025-04-11: more than 21 million for Sound Assistant, more than 17 million for Theme Park and more than 16 million for One Hand Operation+. These are Samsung-reported cumulative download totals as of that publication, not current active-user counts, retention figures or independent evidence of quality or satisfaction.

Common problems and practical fixes
The module cannot be found
Confirm that you are signed into the Galaxy Store, search the exact module name and check whether your model and region support it. Update the phone and Good Lock, then search again. If it remains absent, treat it as unsupported rather than installing an unrelated package from an unofficial source.
A documented option is missing
Check the phone’s One UI and Android versions and read the module’s current store description. Samsung’s feature lists differ by region and software release. A missing switch may be intentional for your device.
The change does not appear immediately
Return to the affected screen, lock and unlock the phone, or restart it if the module requests a restart. Verify that the module itself is enabled and that a conflicting built-in setting has not overridden the preview. Test one option at a time so the cause remains identifiable.
You want to return to the standard layout
Disable the changed option inside its Good Lock module or uninstall that module. Then use the relevant Settings page to select Samsung’s standard layout. Keep a note of the original values before experimenting with several modules.
Good Lock will not install
Check the Android version, available storage, Galaxy Store updates and device support notice. Android 7 and earlier are not supported according to Samsung’s regional support guidance. If the store identifies the device as unsupported, there is no reliable built-in setting that can substitute for that module’s functions.
Which approach is right for you?
- Choose built-in Settings if you want a quick, supported adjustment to wallpaper, sound, navigation, notifications or the basic home and lock screens.
- Choose Good Lock selectively if you can name the missing control—such as per-app volume, lock-screen element placement or a more configurable Quick panel.
- Check support before following instructions whenever the guide names a module, Android version, region or One UI release different from yours.
- Do not buy hardware for this purpose. The customisation described here is software for Galaxy owners; no S Pen, watch or other accessory is required.
The practical decision is therefore simple: begin with Settings, identify the exact limitation, then install the one Good Lock module that addresses it if your Galaxy supports that module. Good Lock is most valuable as a set of targeted extensions, not as a blanket replacement for Samsung’s built-in controls.
