Keys Cafe solves Samsung Keyboard’s physical-layout problem, not every reason someone chooses Gboard. On a Galaxy phone, Good Lock can resize keys, change their positions, and alter the keyboard’s appearance until the arrangement feels familiar—even close to a Gboard-inspired layout. But it does not turn Samsung Keyboard into Gboard. Glide typing, multilingual suggestions, translation, Google Search, voice workflows, clipboard tools and editing behavior remain separate parts of the decision.
What Keys Cafe changes
Samsung introduced Keys Cafe as a Good Lock module for making Samsung Keyboard more comfortable through keyboard-height and keyboard-width resizing and key-layout repositioning. Samsung’s current Good Lock description also lists key colors, backgrounds, fonts and layouts as customization options.
That means you can address the physical complaints that often trigger a switch: keys that feel too narrow, excessive gaps, awkward symbol positions, a number row that is hard to reach, or a layout that does not match your muscle memory. You can also adjust the keyboard’s visual styling and some feedback effects. The result is still Samsung Keyboard, but its geometry can be made substantially more familiar.
Availability and compatibility are version-sensitive. The original Samsung announcement specified Samsung Keyboard 5.1.05 for Keys Cafe. The Galaxy Store listing accessed on October 16, 2026, identifies Keys Cafe version 1.9.00.6, dated September 14, 2026, and says it works with Samsung Keyboard 5.1.05.9 or later. Your Galaxy model, region, One UI release and installed keyboard version can change what appears in Good Lock.

How to make Samsung Keyboard look more like Gboard
- Use a compatible Galaxy phone. Keys Cafe is part of Samsung’s Good Lock customization system and is intended for Samsung Keyboard on Galaxy devices.
- Install or update Good Lock and Keys Cafe from the Galaxy Store. Check the module’s listing and Samsung Keyboard’s version before troubleshooting; the current listing’s minimum is Samsung Keyboard 5.1.05.9 or later.
- Open Keys Cafe and choose the keyboard-layout editor. Resize the keyboard, reposition keys and adjust spacing until the reach and muscle memory match your preferred arrangement.
- Customize appearance if it improves recognition. Keys Cafe supports changes such as key colors, backgrounds and fonts, so you can make the visual hierarchy closer to the keyboard you are used to.
- Test symbols, punctuation and one-handed use. A layout that resembles Gboard on the letter row can still feel different around the comma, period, shift, backspace, number and symbol keys.
- Recheck after updates. Good Lock modules and Samsung Keyboard are version-dependent. If an update resets a layout or removes an option, revisit the module and confirm compatibility before rebuilding the arrangement.
Keys Cafe can reproduce a preferred arrangement; it cannot copy Gboard’s underlying prediction model or Google services.
What remains different from Gboard

Why a fixed layout may not stop you preferring Gboard
Glide typing and prediction
If you enter most text by sliding across letters, the engine matters more than key placement. Gboard’s documented Glide Typing and suggestion behavior can remain the deciding factor after Samsung Keyboard has been reshaped.

Multilingual conversations
Gboard is designed to make multilingual typing less disruptive: Google says it can autocorrect and suggest from enabled languages in the same conversation without requiring a manual language switch. The result depends on the languages you enable and how well each keyboard handles your particular vocabulary.

Gboard’s translation action lets you convert text into another language from the keyboard while composing. Keys Cafe has no equivalent because it is a layout and appearance module, not a translation service.

Voice typing and device limits
Gboard supports voice typing, but its most advanced voice-typing features are not universal. Google’s current help documentation requires a Pixel 6 or later, including Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, for advanced voice typing; language support and processing vary by feature. Detailed voice edits can send the voice-command transcript and input text to Google servers. Do not assume that a Samsung Galaxy phone receives the same advanced behavior.
Search, clipboard and editing tools
Gboard’s appeal can come from the toolbar and workflow around typing: built-in Google Search, clipboard access, handwriting and writing tools. None of those are created by changing Samsung Keyboard’s key map.

Which keyboard is better on a Galaxy phone?
There is no universal winner because the trade-off is physical familiarity versus typing workflow.

- Choose Gboard if Glide Typing, multilingual suggestions, translation, Google Search, voice input, clipboard access or editing tools are central to how you write.
- Keep both installed if you switch by task or language. That avoids sacrificing a layout you like for a feature you use only occasionally, but it adds maintenance and requires you to remember which keyboard is active.
Costs, requirements and maintenance
This is a software choice rather than a hardware upgrade. The Samsung route requires a Galaxy phone, Samsung Keyboard and compatible Good Lock/Keys Cafe versions. Good Lock and Keys Cafe are distributed as Galaxy Store software; Gboard is Google software. The available modules and settings can vary by region and device.

Back up or record a custom arrangement before major One UI, Good Lock or Samsung Keyboard updates. A module update can change labels or compatibility, and a keyboard update can make a previously working layout unavailable until the required version is installed. If Keys Cafe stops applying changes, first verify that Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard, then check the installed versions against the Galaxy Store listing and reopen the layout editor.
The practical verdict
Keys Cafe fixed the part of Samsung Keyboard that was easiest to identify: the arrangement of the keys. That is a meaningful ergonomic improvement and can remove the immediate reason to switch. It does not resolve a preference for Gboard’s glide-typing feel, multilingual behavior, translation, Google Search, voice workflow or editing tools. Decide first whether your frustration is with where the keys are or with what the keyboard does; only the first problem is solved by Good Lock.
