Goldman Sachs analyst Duffy Fischer lowered Sherwin-Williams’ 12-month price target to $410 from $420 on October 9, 2026, while retaining a Buy rating. The reported change reflects a slightly lower valuation multiple applied to Goldman Sachs’ 2027 earnings-per-share estimate—not a change in the rating.
What changed in Goldman Sachs’ SHW call?
The $410 target is $10 below the prior $420 target. Goldman Sachs kept its Buy rating on Sherwin-Williams (NYSE: SHW), according to reports published October 9, 2026. The target covers a 12-month horizon.
StreetInsider reproduced Fischer’s explanation: “We are Buy rated on SHW with a 12-month price target of $410 (down from $420) which is based on applying a 29.8x multiple (from 30x) on our 2027 EPS estimate.” StreetInsider’s October 9 report says Goldman cited slightly lower peer multiples as the reason for reducing the multiple.

The company raised its full-year 2026 guidance to $10.92–$11.32 in diluted EPS and $11.80–$12.20 in adjusted diluted EPS. The GAAP diluted EPS range includes $0.81 per share of Valspar acquisition-related amortization and $0.07 per share of severance and other restructuring expenses; the adjusted range is a distinct non-GAAP measure.
Management also said leading indicators pointed to continued demand softness in the second half and described broad-based inflation in raw materials, energy, logistics, and packaging. The company said an 8% Paint Stores Group price increase was scheduled to take effect September 1. CEO Heidi G. What a $410 price target does—and does not—mean
A price target is an analyst’s estimate of where a stock might trade over a stated period. It is not Sherwin-Williams’ own forecast, a promised market price, or a guaranteed return. A Buy rating is also the analyst’s opinion under that firm’s rating framework, not a certainty about future performance.
The October 9 reports do not establish a comparable, consistently sourced analyst consensus. A meaningful comparison with other targets would need to align the date, 12-month horizon, rating definitions, forecast year and EPS basis, valuation method, and risks. Without those matched inputs, the $410 figure is best read as Goldman Sachs’ revised view rather than as a consensus benchmark.
