India’s latest published rates need to be read with their date, city, unit and pricing method. All India Bullion’s 16 October 2026 reference reading put 24K (999) gold at ₹1,48,760 per 10 grams and 999 silver at ₹2,16,462 per kilogram. Its benchmark showed gold up ₹626 and silver up ₹1,747 from 15 October. Economic Times’ Delhi table for 16 October listed 22K gold at ₹13,849 per gram and 24K at ₹14,922 per gram; its Delhi city page reported 24K gold at ₹1,42,960 per 10 grams on 17 October.
The claim that gold fell for a sixth straight day while silver rose cannot be confirmed from the dated figures available here. The 16 October benchmark showed both metals rising, so the headline should be tied to its original publication date before being repeated.
Latest gold and silver rates reported for India
These are not one universal “today” price. They are separate readings from different sources, locations and timestamps.

The All India Bullion figures are benchmarks, not guaranteed shop prices. The source says local dealers can add premiums, so a jeweller in a particular city may quote more or less.

What 22K and 24K mean
24K or 999 gold
24K gold is treated here as 999 fineness: approximately 999 parts gold per 1,000. Because it is comparatively soft, it is commonly used as a purity benchmark, bars and coins rather than for many everyday jewellery designs.
22K or 916 gold
22K gold is 916 fineness, meaning approximately 916 parts gold per 1,000. It is a common jewellery purity because alloying improves strength. A 22K number may be calculated from a 24K metal value instead of being a separately published wholesale fixing.

All India Bullion’s October average was ₹14,973 per gram for 24K and a derived ₹13,715 per gram for 22K. That monthly average is not the same thing as the 16 or 17 October city quotes.

Compare like with like before deciding that a quote is wrong. The main differences are:

- Geography: an India-wide benchmark is not the same as a Delhi retail quote; local premiums vary.
- Unit: websites may quote per gram, per 10 grams or per kilogram.
- Timestamp: the benchmark above was recorded at 03:00 IST, while city pages may update later.
- Invoice additions: jewellery bills include making charges, wastage and 3% GST in addition to the metal value.
For example, multiplying a metal rate by weight will not reproduce a finished ornament’s bill unless you also account for the jeweller’s making and wastage charges and the applicable tax.
How to check a gold quote before buying
- Write down the date and time of the quote.
- Confirm whether it is for 22K/916 or 24K/999.
- Convert the unit to the one you need: per gram, per 10 grams or per kilogram.
- Ask whether the number is a benchmark, a city retail rate or the shop’s own rate.
- Request a written breakdown showing metal value, weight, making charge, wastage and 3% GST.
- Check the hallmark or fineness marking on the finished item and ensure it matches the invoice.
Why silver can rise while gold falls
Gold and silver do not have to move together on every session. They are separate markets with different mixes of investment, jewellery and industrial buying and selling. A one-day divergence therefore does not by itself prove a broad trend or identify a particular cause. The available dated readings illustrate why the date matters: All India Bullion recorded both metals higher on 16 October, while News On AIR reported both lower on 12 and 14 October.

News On AIR’s 12 October report stated: “In the Indian bullion market today, 24 carat gold was 0.9 per cent down at 1,48,061 rupees per 10 grams.” That figure is a historical observation for 12 October, not a replacement for the later 16 or 17 October quotes.
What the “sixth day” headline means here
A sequence such as “gold fell for a sixth day” is meaningful only for the exact publication date and comparison series used by the original report. The evidence available for this update does not establish that sequence on 17 October 2026: the 16 October All India Bullion table shows gold up ₹626 from the previous day, and it also shows silver up ₹1,747. Treat the phrase as date-specific rather than as the current rate description.
