Stray’s platinum is easy to understand and oddly demanding to execute: the game encourages a relaxed first journey through its neon-lit world, then asks you to replay that same journey in under two hours for the “I am Speed” trophy. The challenge is less about advanced glitches than about turning exploration, dialogue, puzzles and movement into a memorized route.
Stray’s platinum is built around two completely different games
BlueTwelve Studio’s Stray, published by Annapurna Interactive in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, has 25 trophies: one platinum, seven gold, nine silver and eight bronze. Most of the list rewards ordinary play—finding memories, collecting badges, helping characters and completing chapter-specific tasks. One trophy changes the tone of the entire list.

“I am Speed” requires the exact condition: “Complete the game in less than 2 hours.” That is not a two-hour chapter, a cumulative timer or a target that can be met by finishing most of the story. It is a complete run from the opening to the ending, with every pause, wrong turn and failed puzzle costing time.
That contrast is what makes the platinum memorable. On a first playthrough, stopping to watch a robot’s reaction or search a rooftop feels like the point. On the speed attempt, the same detours become decisions you have already made once and should not make again.

Why the first playthrough should be slow
Stray is fundamentally an exploration adventure. Its strongest moments depend on noticing the environment: a path across balconies, a collectible tucked behind a sign, a conversation that explains a character’s history or a puzzle whose solution is embedded in the room. Rushing that experience for the trophy can turn the opening hours into a checklist.
A normal first run also provides the knowledge the trophy demands. You learn which rooftops connect, which characters trigger the next objective, where the game locks your movement during dialogue and how each puzzle is framed. Those discoveries are effectively practice for the replay, even if you never intend to speedrun in the leaderboard sense.
The trophy guide at PlayStationTrophies.org recommends treating the speed attempt as a later run rather than a first completion. That advice matters because the game’s short length is deceptive: knowing the route is more valuable than simply moving the cat quickly.

Route memory
You need a chapter-by-chapter line through the story. The fastest route is not the route that contains every collectible or optional interaction; it is the route that reaches each required objective with minimal backtracking. Chapter knowledge lets you move toward the next trigger before the game explicitly tells you where it is.

Dialogue and cutscene discipline
Story conversations and scripted sequences cannot all be removed, but hesitation around them can. Approach the correct character immediately, select required responses without searching menus and resume movement as soon as control returns. The time saved is cumulative rather than dramatic in any single scene.
Puzzle preparation
Most lost minutes come from uncertainty. A routed replay treats puzzles as rehearsed inputs: bring the right item to the right machine, activate objectives in the known order and avoid exploratory loops. If you cannot explain the next interaction before entering a room, that chapter needs more practice.
Checkpoint management
Failure does not automatically end an attempt, but a death or reload can erase the advantage of a clean route. Learn where checkpoints occur and decide in advance whether recovering from a mistake is faster than restarting the chapter. This is ordinary trophy play, not a leaderboard run, so consistency is more valuable than theatrical risk.

How difficult is the platinum?
Guides commonly estimate 10–12 hours for the full platinum and recommend two playthroughs. PlayStationTrophies.org gives that estimate in its 2022 roadmap, but it is a planning figure, not a guarantee. A first run focused on story and collectibles can take a different amount of time depending on how thoroughly you explore, while the second run may be short once the route is familiar.

After completing the game, chapter select allows cleanup. That means you do not have to combine every memory, badge and miscellaneous trophy with the sub-two-hour attempt. Separating the goals is the sensible approach: explore freely once, clean up anything missed through chapter select, then make the speed run its own controlled session.

Can Stray really be finished in under two hours?
Yes. Verified speedrun evidence shows a PlayStation 5 glitchless run of 1:43:09 on Speedrun.com, with 1:36:04 recorded as in-game time on the runner’s page dated 2023. That result demonstrates that the trophy’s limit is achievable with substantial margin once the game has been routed.
The distinction between those times matters. A leaderboard category can use a defined timing method and enforce rules about glitches, loads or resets. The trophy only checks the game’s completion condition. You do not need to reproduce a leaderboard-legal run or match the runner’s inputs; you need a reliable personal route that finishes before the game’s two-hour requirement.
PS4, PS5 and the feel of the replay
The trophy list is available on both PS4 and PS5 versions. The underlying route is the same, but control feel, loading behavior and individual setup can affect how comfortable the attempt is. The verified 1:43:09 glitchless example is specifically a PS5 run, so it should be treated as evidence for that platform and category rather than a universal promise for every copy.

Whichever version you use, practice on the same platform you intend to submit. Familiarity with camera movement, input timing and transitions is worth more than switching hardware in search of a theoretical advantage.

- Finish a discovery run. Learn the chapter layouts and story objectives without watching the clock.
- Use chapter select for cleanup. Collect missed memories, badges and chapter trophies separately so optional searching does not contaminate the timed attempt.
- Write a route outline. Note the required objective order, key item locations and any dialogue or puzzle trigger that caused hesitation.
- Practice difficult chapters. Repeat sections where you lose time until the next action is automatic, especially transitions between traversal and puzzles.
- Run the full game. Start only when you can move through the opening chapters without stopping to decide what comes next.
- Review the result and adjust. If you miss the limit, identify the largest time losses—usually navigation, puzzle order or recoveries—rather than trying to move faster everywhere.
The satisfying contradiction of this platinum
Stray is gentle enough to invite wandering, yet precise enough to reward a rehearsed line through its chapters. That is why “I am Speed” feels different from a routine collectible trophy. The game first teaches you to look around; the platinum then asks what happens when you already know where everything is.
The result is a rare kind of replay: not a harder combat mode or a larger checklist, but a practiced transformation of an atmospheric adventure into a route. You can enjoy the cat’s world at leisure, then return to it with the confidence that every jump, conversation and puzzle has a place.
