Neither GoDaddy nor HostPapa is a clear winner for every website. GoDaddy may be the better fit if you want to keep your domain and hosting together or want its managed WordPress offering. HostPapa may suit a price-conscious beginner looking for WordPress-focused shared hosting and onboarding help. Compare equivalent plan types, renewal costs, backups, SSL coverage, and support—not just the introductory price.

How to compare GoDaddy and HostPapa fairly

The two providers’ WordPress labels do not necessarily describe the same service. GoDaddy’s cited WordPress page covers managed WordPress hosting. HostPapa distinguishes optimized WordPress hosting, which it describes as a shared-hosting environment, from a separate managed WordPress service with additional resources and services.

Before choosing, match the plans by management level and resource needs. A managed plan should not be treated as equivalent to an entry-level shared plan simply because both support WordPress.

  • Compare the same country, billing term, plan scope, and renewal period.
  • Check the allowed number of sites and the storage or other resource limits.
  • Compare SSL duration, backup frequency and retention, staging eligibility, migration, and security features on the specific tier.
  • Consider which support channels you will actually use and whether you want help with setup.

What the published plan details show

Prices and features below come from different kinds of sources and are not a like-for-like quote. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress prices are provider-listed monthly rates for annual-plan sign-ups. The separate GoDaddy Economy figures are from Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison of shared hosting. HostPapa’s official US WordPress page displays promotional monthly prices tied to multi-year terms, but the available evidence does not establish a directly comparable current renewal price for both providers.

Comparison point GoDaddy HostPapa
WordPress plan scope Its cited official page describes managed WordPress plans, including maintenance, security patches, server-level caching, and updates, according to GoDaddy. GoDaddy managed WordPress Its official page distinguishes optimized WordPress hosting in a shared environment from a separate managed WordPress service. HostPapa WordPress plans
Published price evidence GoDaddy lists Basic at $6.95/month, Deluxe at $9.95/month, and Ultimate at $13.95/month for annual-plan sign-ups on its managed WordPress page. Separately, Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison lists shared Economy at $5.99/month initially, then $11.99/month after three years; do not treat those as managed WordPress rates. Tom’s Guide 2026 comparison The official US WordPress page displays promotional monthly prices tied to multi-year commitments and says the offers renew at regular rates. Exact comparable current renewal prices are not established here; check the displayed term and renewal price before ordering. HostPapa WordPress plans
Backups, staging, and SSL GoDaddy says its managed WordPress service includes daily automatic backups with 30-day retention and one-click staging. Tom’s Guide says the separate shared Economy plan includes daily backups and an SSL certificate for one year. Confirm the feature set for the plan you select. GoDaddy managed WordPress Tom’s Guide 2026 comparison HostPapa lists standard SSL, automated backups, and staging on qualifying plans. It describes broader backup and security coverage on higher tiers; feature availability depends on the selected plan. HostPapa WordPress plans
Migration and setup GoDaddy describes a migration wizard for managed WordPress. GoDaddy managed WordPress HostPapa describes free migration and one-to-one training sessions; TechRadar’s November 26, 2025 review identifies the sessions as a helpful feature for new hosting users. Uptime statement GoDaddy states a 99.9% uptime guarantee for managed WordPress hosting. This is the provider’s guarantee, not an independent measurement. Which host is the better fit?

Choose GoDaddy if account consolidation matters

If you already manage your domain through GoDaddy, keeping hosting in the same account may be convenient. Its managed WordPress page also describes maintenance and updates as part of the service, alongside a migration wizard and one-click staging. Confirm which of those features are included in the particular tier you are considering.

Consider HostPapa if you want beginner-oriented help

TechRadar’s review of HostPapa, published November 26, 2025, says the reviewer tested its Essential shared plan and highlights live chat, email, phone, and ticket support, as well as one-to-one training. The review recommends it especially for new hosting users who prioritize price and help getting started. That is an editorial assessment, not a matched test of support against GoDaddy. HostPapa also describes free migration on its WordPress page.

For WordPress management, compare the right tiers

HostPapa’s optimized WordPress shared plans and its managed WordPress service are distinct offerings, just as GoDaddy’s managed WordPress rates should be kept separate from its shared Economy hosting. Decide whether you need shared hosting or a managed service, then compare the plans that provide that level of management and resources. Check site limits, backups, staging, and security coverage at the tier level rather than assuming all plans have the same tools.

Do not pick a speed winner from these reviews

The available performance evidence does not establish whether GoDaddy or HostPapa is faster. TechRadar describes testing HostPapa’s Essential shared plan with a prebuilt WooCommerce site. Tom’s Guide offers an editorial assessment of GoDaddy hosting. Because the sources do not test the same site on equivalent plan classes, in the same location and period, using the same method, their results cannot support a reliable head-to-head speed ranking.

If speed is important to your decision, look for recent testing that discloses the plan, test site, geography, timing, and measurements—or benchmark your own site on a staging setup.

Check the full cost and contract before signing up

An introductory rate is not the total cost of hosting. HostPapa says its displayed US WordPress promotions are tied to multi-year commitments and renew at regular rates. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress monthly figures apply to annual-plan sign-ups, while the Economy shared figures cited by Tom’s Guide follow a different plan and term. Do not compare those numbers as though they cover the same service.

  • the first-term price, billing frequency, and commitment length;
  • the renewal price and the period it covers;

  • SSL coverage and duration, backup frequency and retention, and restore conditions;
  • staging availability and any plan eligibility rules;
  • migration, refund terms, and any non-refundable fees.

HostPapa states a 30-day money-back guarantee on its official page and notes that domain registration fees are non-refundable. Check the current terms for exclusions. For either provider, the guarantee or refund language does not replace checking the plan’s renewal price and feature limits.

How support evidence compares

HostPapa’s review evidence lists live chat, email, phone, and tickets; Tom’s Guide’s 2026 GoDaddy comparison reports phone, live chat, and text message. Tom’s Guide says basic questions were handled competently in its experience, while complex issues may be better handled by other hosts. Those are separate editorial observations, not a controlled comparison of response or resolution times, so they cannot show which company provides faster or more effective support overall.

GoDaddy advertises 24/7 support on its managed WordPress page. Verify current hours and available channels for the product and region you plan to buy, and consider whether you need general hosting assistance or WordPress-specific help.
