Choose GoDaddy if your main need is a general business website that can also handle appointments and some selling. Choose BigCommerce if the business is store-first and needs commerce-focused capabilities such as multiple storefronts or native B2B features. That distinction follows the vendors’ product descriptions; it is not a hands-on usability or performance verdict.

Start with the job your site must do

GoDaddy’s Website Builder combines standard website tools with marketing, appointments, and ecommerce features. BigCommerce describes itself as an ecommerce platform and emphasizes tools for operating online stores. The practical choice is therefore less about which headline monthly price is lower and more about whether your business needs a website with selling attached or a commerce operation at its center.

  • Website first: Consider GoDaddy for a service business, portfolio, or brochure-style presence that may take bookings or sell a modest catalog.
  • Store first: Consider BigCommerce when storefront operations, multiple branded or regional storefronts, or B2B workflows are central requirements.
  • Not sure: List required functions before comparing plans: appointments, catalog, marketplace or point-of-sale channels, storefront count, B2B pricing and workflows, payment provider, and expected sales.

These are starting points, not guarantees that every feature is available on every plan or in every country. Verify regional and plan availability before committing.

What each platform is built to do

GoDaddy: a general site builder with selling and appointments

GoDaddy’s Website Builder features include templates, mobile editing, contact forms, and marketing tools, alongside commerce features such as payments, discounts, shipping and tax settings, abandoned-cart recovery, product reviews, and marketplace selling. The feature page also describes appointment capabilities. This breadth makes it a natural first comparison for businesses that need a public-facing site and want selling or booking integrated into the same builder.

GoDaddy’s US plan page lists Basic and Commerce plans. For the displayed Commerce terms, the online-store transaction fee and card-processing fee are different charges: the page states a 0% online-store transaction fee and a 2.7% + $0.30 ecommerce card fee. Card processing still has a cost even when the separate store transaction fee is zero. Confirm checkout terms for your location and payment setup.

BigCommerce: an ecommerce platform for store operations

BigCommerce’s product materials emphasize ecommerce capabilities including product filtering, payment-provider flexibility, multi-storefront support, and native B2B features. These matter most when the business must operate more than one storefront or serve business buyers with specific workflows. BigCommerce also has plan thresholds and payment-provider terms that make sales volume and payment configuration part of the platform decision, not just accounting details.

BigCommerce’s pricing page lists additional fees and storefront caps on self-serve plans. Multi-storefront is therefore a defined capability, but not a reason to ignore the extra cost of each added storefront.

How the displayed prices compare

The following US-dollar prices were displayed on the vendors’ official pages retrieved October 7, 2026. They can change; BigCommerce prices exclude tax. The plans are not directly equivalent: GoDaddy’s cited page is for a website builder, while BigCommerce prices ecommerce plans against sales thresholds and payment configuration.

Platform and plan Displayed price Important terms
GoDaddy Basic $9.99/month US Website Builder page; displayed annual-plan savings and terms may vary by location and checkout.
GoDaddy Commerce $20.99/month US Website Builder page; 0% online-store transaction fee and 2.7% + $0.30 ecommerce card fee stated on the page.
BigCommerce Core $29/month billed annually; $39 monthly list price $30,000 trailing-twelve-month GMV threshold described on the pricing page; additional storefronts listed at $30/month, up to 3.
BigCommerce Growth $79/month billed annually; $105 monthly list price $100,000 GMV threshold described on the pricing page; additional storefronts listed at $50/month, up to 5.
BigCommerce Scale $299/month billed annually; $399 monthly list price $33,333/month threshold and an overage rate described on the pricing page; additional storefronts listed at $100/month, up to 8.
BigCommerce Performance Starting at $1,499/month billed annually Custom-priced according to the pricing page.

GoDaddy’s prices and fees above come from its US Website Builder pricing page. BigCommerce plan prices, thresholds, and added-storefront terms come from its pricing page. The precise GMV calculation, overage, and payment-provider fee rules are plan terms to review directly; do not assume the displayed subscription price is the total cost.

BigCommerce says its pricing changes began June 1, 2026. The update introduced new plan names and GMV thresholds, an Open Payment Provider fee for orders processed through those providers on self-serve plans, and the ability to manage plans in-account. Older comparisons may describe a previous structure. See the BigCommerce pricing update and current plan table before budgeting.

  • Subscription and billing term: Annual-billing prices and monthly list prices differ on BigCommerce’s page; offers and plan terms can vary by geography.
  • Sales volume: BigCommerce describes GMV thresholds, possible plan changes, and an overage rate. Work from your expected sales and the definitions on the current pricing page.
  • Payment processing and provider fees: GoDaddy’s stated 0% online-store transaction fee does not eliminate the separately stated card-processing fee. BigCommerce describes an Open Payment Provider fee for eligible orders on self-serve plans; check how your chosen provider is treated.
  • Additional storefronts: BigCommerce lists monthly add-on charges and caps by self-serve tier. Include them if you plan to serve multiple brands, regions, or customer groups.
  • Regional availability: GoDaddy’s cited prices and card fee are from its US page. A UK GoDaddy store page retrieved in 2026 states a limit of up to 5,000 products, but that is a UK-specific vendor statement and should not be combined with the US pricing as if both described one offer. See the UK online-store page.

Which one fits which kind of business?

Choose GoDaddy as your first comparison for a service or local business

If the site’s main job is to explain your business, present services, attract inquiries, and take appointments or occasional orders, GoDaddy’s combination of website, appointment, marketing, and selling features is the more natural fit to investigate. Confirm that the specific booking and selling functions you need are in the plan offered where you live.

Choose BigCommerce as your first comparison for a multi-store or B2B operation

If selling is the core operation and you need distinct storefronts for brands, regions, or customer segments, BigCommerce’s explicit multi-storefront feature makes it the more natural first comparison. The same applies if native B2B capabilities are a requirement. Budget the relevant plan threshold and any added-storefront charges alongside the subscription.

Resolve uncertainty with a requirements list

Write down the functions that would rule a platform out before looking at monthly prices. A short list should cover appointments, catalog needs, marketplace or POS channels, multiple storefronts, B2B workflows, preferred payment provider, and forecast sales. Then check those requirements against current regional plan pages and price the appropriate plan—not just the cheapest card on either site.

What this comparison can and cannot establish

The cited product and pricing pages support a comparison of the vendors’ described features and commercial terms, not a claim that one platform is objectively easier, faster, converts better, or provides better support. No comparable independent usability, speed, conversion, or support evidence is established here, and no hands-on product test or migration was performed. Product capabilities and pricing are vendor-published descriptions; check current terms for your region before purchase.
