Thor is not the main character of the 2027 God of War game. The officially announced God of War Laufey stars Faye (Laufey) and arrives exclusively on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. Thor matters to the story because Faye previously fought him, but the evidence does not support calling the game a Thor-led release.
The Thor product arriving around the same period is a separate Prime 1 Studio collectible based on God of War Ragnarök. Its official Japanese listing gives a tax-included price of ¥325,490, not $1,599. The manufacturer has not published an official $1,599 price.
What is actually releasing in 2027?
Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Laufey is a new, Faye-led chapter in the series. PlayStation describes Faye as a warrior who went toe-to-toe with Thor and was a match for Kratos, but that description establishes her history, not Thor’s role as the playable protagonist.
The story begins after Faye’s death. She awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods, and learns that the plans she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are in danger. PlayStation presents the game as an expansion of the God of War universe that finally tells a character’s long-hidden story.

The separate Thor collectible
Prime 1 Studio’s Real Elite Masterline Thor DX Bonus is a 1/3-scale polystone statue modeled on Thor from God of War Ragnarök. It gives an estimated delivery window of November 2026 through February 2027.

What the headline gets wrong
There are two separate announcements being conflated. The 2027 software release is Faye’s story, while the Thor item is a limited statue tied to the earlier God of War Ragnarök. Thor is therefore a major part of Faye’s backstory and a subject of the collectible, but neither fact makes him the playable lead of God of War Laufey.
For a game purchase, choose the Standard or Digital Deluxe PS5 edition. For a physical display item, the Collector Box and Prime 1 statue serve different purposes: the former is a smaller Faye-themed package with cards and an artbook, while the latter is a 57-kilogram, 1/3-scale Thor sculpture limited to 350 pieces.
