The GMKtec NucBox K17 is a compact office and media mini PC with capable integrated graphics, fast storage, and an unusually generous selection of USB ports. Its main drawback is also its most important buying consideration: the 16GB of LPDDR5X memory is built into the processor package and cannot be upgraded. It suits everyday work and lighter gaming, but it is a poor choice for memory-heavy workloads or sustained, highly parallel CPU tasks.

What the K17 is—and what it is not

The reviewed K17 configuration pairs Intel’s Core Ultra 5 226V Lunar Lake processor with integrated Intel Arc 130V graphics. The processor has eight cores and eight threads, a maximum clock speed of 4.5GHz, and a 17W base power rating. PCWorld reports selectable 20W, 25W, and 35W power profiles. These specifications make it a small general-purpose PC, not a workstation replacement.

The integrated graphics use seven Xe cores. The system also includes an Intel AI Boost NPU rated up to 40 TOPS. GMKtec advertises 97 TOPS of total system AI performance, a figure that combines CPU, GPU, and NPU capability; it should not be read as a measure of how quickly a particular AI application will run. GMKtec’s EU listing identifies the Core Ultra 5 226V, Arc 130V, and onboard memory, while PCWorld’s review provides the hands-on specifications and test results.

Is 16GB of fixed memory enough?

The K17 has 16GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 8,533 MT/s. It is integrated with the processor and cannot be upgraded, so buyers must decide whether 16GB is enough for the machine’s entire useful life. There is no option to add RAM later if software, browser use, or workload demands grow.

Experience ultra-fast read/write speeds for massive datasets, AI model storage, and 4K/8K media files—no more external drives or storage limitations, everything stays fast and accessible.
  • Good fit: office applications, web browsing, media playback, and light multitasking.
  • Think carefully: many simultaneously open applications, large creative projects, or workloads that routinely consume substantial memory.
  • Poor fit: memory-heavy virtual machines or any setup that depends on expanding RAM.

Storage capacity is more flexible than memory. PCWorld reports two M.2 2280 slots: one PCIe 5.0 x4 and one PCIe 4.0 x2, with up to 16TB total supported storage. Its review unit included a 1TB EXT X200E PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD. The second slot offers a way to add storage, but it does not address the fixed-RAM limitation; check the machine revision and drive compatibility before buying an SSD.

How fast is it in everyday work and heavy CPU tasks?

In PCWorld’s 2026 tests, the K17 scored 7,789 points overall in PCMark 10. The review also reported 9,934 for everyday tasks, 14,350 for productivity, and 8,996 for content creation. These results support its intended role as a responsive small PC for common desktop work; they do not establish that every application or configuration will perform the same way.

Heavy parallel CPU work is a weaker area. PCWorld measured 4,614 for the K17’s full-load CPU score, compared with 4,698 for the K13, 6,691 for a 16-thread Ryzen system, and more than 9,700 for a Ryzen AI 9 system. PCWorld attributes the scaling limitation to the K17’s eight-thread ceiling. If your routine work involves sustained rendering, encoding, or other heavily threaded jobs, a higher-thread-count system is a better class of machine to consider.

Can the K17 play games?

Yes, but set expectations around integrated graphics. In PCWorld’s 3DMark Time Spy test, the K17 scored 3,789 points overall and 3,521 graphics points. The K13, using Arc 140V graphics, scored 4,006 graphics-test points—around six percent ahead in that comparison.

In PCWorld’s Cyberpunk 2077 test, the K17 averaged 38.1 frames per second, with a 31 fps minimum, at Full HD resolution, low detail settings, and XeSS enabled. That is a specific result under reduced settings, not a promise of similar performance across games. Demanding modern titles may require lowering detail, and the K17 is not a high-end gaming PC.

For occasional gaming alongside work and media use, the Arc 130V makes the K17 more capable than a basic office mini PC. If gaming performance is the priority, compare systems with stronger graphics rather than treating this benchmark as evidence that the K17 can run demanding games smoothly at high settings.

Are the SSD and connections useful?

The K17’s tested SSD was quick: PCWorld measured sequential reads of 7,123 MB/s and writes of 6,335 MB/s in CrystalDiskMark on its review unit. Those are results for the included drive in that test, not a guarantee for every K17 configuration or replacement SSD.

Port selection is a practical strength, especially for a compact desktop. The front includes two USB-A ports rated at 10Gbps and 5Gbps, one 40Gbps USB4 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. At the rear are three 5Gbps USB-A ports, a USB 2.0 port, two HDMI 2.1 outputs, and the power connection. Together, the six USB-A ports and front USB4 port reduce the need to rely on a hub for common peripherals.

  • USB4 and HDMI support up to three concurrent displays, according to PCWorld.
  • One HDMI output supports 8K at 60Hz; the other supports 4K.
  • Wired networking is 2.5GbE; wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

PCWorld describes the case as roughly 5 by 5 by 1.75 inches and the system as weighing 16.2 ounces. Those compact dimensions make it suitable for a crowded desk or media setup, though the review does not establish that every retail configuration ships with the same software or firmware. Its tested unit arrived with Windows 11 Pro 25H2, build 26200, and a March 2026 BIOS; the reviewer noted pending security updates at first boot.

K17 or K13: which makes more sense?

The K13 is the closest alternative discussed in PCWorld’s review. It upgrades to a Core Ultra 7 256V and Arc 140V graphics, and adds 5GbE and a second USB4 port. PCWorld said it cost only slightly more than the K17 at the time of its review. The K17, meanwhile, has six USB-A ports and a front-facing USB4 port, which may be more useful for a desk with multiple wired devices.

Prices vary by region, date, seller, configuration, and promotions. PCWorld’s retailer comparison displayed €569.99 at GMKtec and €788.96 at Amazon at the time it was accessed. GMKtec’s EU product listing displayed €529.99 when accessed in 2026 and presents K17 and K17 Plus variants alongside multiple memory and storage configurations. These are dated observations, not current price quotes, and the K17 Plus specifications should not be assumed to describe the standard K17 reviewed here.

Wired networking 2.5GbE 5GbE

Choose between them based on the exact current price, the graphics and CPU headroom you need, wired network speed, and which ports you will actually use. The K13’s stronger graphics and extra USB4 connection are meaningful advantages; they do not make either system a substitute for a high-end gaming or workstation desktop.

Who should buy the K17?

  • Consider it if you want a small office or media PC, value six USB-A ports and front USB4, and expect 16GB of memory to be sufficient.
  • Look elsewhere if you need upgradeable RAM, plan to run memory-heavy virtual machines, or regularly rely on highly parallel CPU workloads.
  • Compare carefully if gaming is important: the K17 can handle some games at reduced settings, but its integrated Arc 130V graphics do not make it a high-end gaming system.

For any purchase, confirm that the listing is for the standard K17 with Core Ultra 5 226V and 16GB memory, rather than a K17 Plus or a different configuration. The fixed memory makes model and configuration checks particularly important.
