Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo are globally prominent Android phone makers, but the available U.S. shipment figures do not show them among the leading brands there. That points to a gap in market visibility—not proof that their phones are never sold in the United States. Here, “popular” means share of global smartphone shipments, using Counterpoint Research’s 2025 annual figures and 2026 quarterly updates.
Which Android brands are globally popular but less visible in the U.S.?
Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo are useful examples of manufacturers with substantial global presence that are less prominent in the U.S. shipment picture cited here. The figures measure phones shipped during specified periods; they do not tell us how many are in use, how much consumers like a brand, or whether a particular model can be bought from a U.S. seller.
Xiaomi: third in Counterpoint’s 2025 global account
Xiaomi accounted for 13% of global smartphone shipments in 2025 and retained third place, according to Counterpoint Research’s 2025 annual shipment summary. This is a worldwide shipment share, not Xiaomi’s U.S. share or the proportion of phones in use that are Xiaomi devices.

In Q2 2026, Xiaomi shipments fell 26% year over year, Counterpoint reported in its quarterly summary. That change compares shipment volume with the same quarter a year earlier; it is not a 26-point fall in market share and does not, by itself, alter the 2025 annual ranking.

OPPO and realme: a combined 2025 figure
Counterpoint’s 2025 account places OPPO and realme together in fourth place, with 11% of global shipments combined. The figure is for the combined accounting group, not OPPO alone, so it should not be read as OPPO’s individual market share.
vivo: a global example, without an unsupported share
Counterpoint’s Q2 2026 global market summary also identifies vivo among the leading global smartphone brands. The available figures do not establish a precise share for vivo here, so it is best treated as another example of global prominence rather than assigned a rank or percentage.

How does that compare with U.S. smartphone shipments?
In Q1 2026, Samsung accounted for 25% of U.S. smartphone shipments and Motorola for 11%, according to Counterpoint’s U.S. quarterly market summary. Those numbers help show which brands had measurable prominence in that U.S. quarter. They do not provide exact U.S. shares for Xiaomi, OPPO, or vivo, and they should not be compared directly with Xiaomi’s 2025 global share as if the geography and periods matched.

Why “rarely sold” needs qualification
A shipment ranking answers how many devices manufacturers shipped into a market during a period. It is not the same as retail sell-through, installed base, brand preference, or availability at every carrier and retailer. A brand can be important globally and still have a small U.S. retail footprint; the statistics cited here cannot establish that Xiaomi, OPPO, or vivo phones are never sold in the United States.
Rankings also depend on the accounting method. In Counterpoint’s 2025 figure, OPPO and realme are combined, while Xiaomi is reported individually. A list that treats each company as a separate entry would not be using the same grouping as that source.

What to check before importing one of these phones
Global prominence does not guarantee that an imported model will work well or be supported in the U.S. Check the exact model and version before buying; two phones sold under a similar name can differ by region.
- Network bands: Compare the exact model’s supported cellular bands with those used by your carrier, and confirm whether the carrier supports that device for voice and data.
- Software variant: Confirm which regional software is installed, whether it includes the services and language options you need, and how updates are delivered.
- Seller and return terms: Verify who is actually selling the phone, where it ships from, and whether you can return it if it is incompatible or not as described.
- Warranty: Check whether the manufacturer or seller will provide service in the U.S.; do not assume an international model has domestic warranty coverage.
These checks apply to imported Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo models alike. A global shipment ranking cannot substitute for model-specific compatibility and support information.
