Glen Schofield says Krafton management told his team that The Callisto Protocol had to launch in December 2022, despite his request for about three and a half more months. He has also blamed the schedule for production strain and content cuts. Those are Schofield’s recollections, not independently established findings: the available accounts do not include a documented Krafton decision record or a Krafton response to his allegations.
What Schofield says happened
The Callisto Protocol is a third-person survival-horror game set in a prison on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Its protagonist, Jacob Lee, is an inmate caught in an outbreak, according to Krafton’s game description. The game launched on December 2, 2022, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, according to GameSpot.
In an interview account published by PCGamesN on August 7, 2024, Schofield said he wanted “about three and a half more months,” but that Krafton’s team told him the game had to ship in December 2022. He described the release as forced, but the evidence available publicly here is his account of the scheduling dispute; it does not establish what Krafton’s internal decision process was.
Why he says December mattered to Krafton
In a later interview reported by GameSpot on August 21, 2025, Schofield supplied a rationale he said he had been given: “They told me that the game has to ship in December because of the Korean stock market.” That is Schofield’s recollection of what he was told, not an independently confirmed explanation from Krafton.

The two accounts therefore describe his view of the decision: he says he sought more development time, while the December target was treated as fixed for a business reason tied to the stock market. The sources do not provide two independently documented proposals or a company statement that verifies this explanation.
What he says the schedule cost the game
PCGamesN reported Schofield’s claim that four bosses and two enemy types were cut. The article also recounts his account of pandemic disruption, staff departures, and the strain of accelerating development. These details have not been independently verified through production records in the available reporting, so they should be understood as Schofield’s description of what happened.

Before release, Schofield presented a more positive public account of the project. In a November 11, 2022 interview published by Krafton, he said: “We’re building an all new IP with an all new team, on a new engine, on all new consoles. And on top of it all, we did it during a global pandemic.” That contemporaneous description provides context for the production challenges he later discussed, but it does not resolve the internal scheduling dispute.

What Schofield says he would change
Asked what he would do differently, Schofield told PCGamesN in 2024: “I would have put my foot down.” He said he might have responded, “If you want the game to ship, you come and take over the studio.” The remarks express his hindsight about how he handled the disagreement, rather than proof that he had the authority or practical ability to change the date.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is established—and what remains an allegation
- Established release facts: The game launched on December 2, 2022, and its listed platforms included PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
- Schofield’s account: He says he wanted roughly three and a half additional months, was told to meet the December date, and was given the Korean stock market as the reason.
- Reported production impact: He says four bosses and two enemy types were cut, and describes staff departures and pressure during development.
- Unresolved: The available coverage does not independently document Krafton’s decision-making or include a response from Krafton to the specific allegation that management forced the early release.
GameSpot also reported conflicting accounts about the game’s commercial performance: Krafton management said it missed sales expectations, while Schofield gave a higher estimate of copies sold. Without a common independently verified figure, those claims do not settle whether the launch date or reported cuts caused the game’s performance.
