You can’t browse Samsung Secure Folder directly from a PC. To transfer a file, unlock Secure Folder on your Galaxy phone, move the file out, then copy the exported file to your computer over USB or another supported method. Moving it out removes it from Secure Folder’s protected area.
Why Secure Folder doesn’t appear in File Explorer
Secure Folder is accessed and authenticated on the Galaxy device; it is separate from the phone’s ordinary storage. Samsung’s USB instructions cover browsing regular phone files, not opening Secure Folder as a PC directory. Export the file on the phone first, then transfer the resulting ordinary file. Samsung Knox explains how Secure Folder handles files; Samsung Australia’s USB guide describes the PC transfer workflow for Australian device variants.
Move files out of Secure Folder on your phone
- Open Secure Folder and authenticate.
- Find the item. For documents and other files, open My Files inside Secure Folder. For photos or videos, you can use its Gallery app.
- Select the item and choose “Move out of Secure Folder.” Depending on the app, use More or the menu to find the option. Labels and menu locations can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s Canada Secure Folder instructions describe this phone-side route.
The file is now outside Secure Folder. If you use cloud-synced content, Samsung Knox notes that a synced copy may reappear in Gallery; check for copies separately if needed.

- Unlock your Galaxy phone and connect it to the PC with a data-capable USB cable.
- If prompted, approve the connection. On the phone’s USB notification, choose “Transferring files” or “MTP.”
- In Windows File Explorer, open the Galaxy device and browse to the folder containing the exported item.
- If you cannot find the file, check its location on the phone. Samsung Australia recommends using Gallery’s item details to identify a photo or video’s file path.
A cable must support data transfer, not just charging. Samsung’s USB directions cover supported USB connections, including USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C. See Samsung Australia’s transfer instructions.

Can Samsung DeX or Phone Link access Secure Folder?
DeX: optional for ordinary file transfers, not a bypass
Samsung DeX supports file transfers on compatible configurations, including drag-and-drop, but Samsung does not describe it as a way to open Secure Folder from Windows. USB file transfer does not require DeX. Check Samsung’s current DeX compatibility guidance for your model: DeX for PC is unsupported on the Galaxy S25 series and other models updated to One UI 7 or later.
Phone Link: clipboard content cannot be copied out
Microsoft says you can copy text or images into Secure Folder, but cannot copy content from Secure Folder onto a PC. Phone Link therefore is not an export route for Secure Folder files. Microsoft’s Phone Link guidance explains this clipboard limitation.

Protect exported files appropriately
Moving a file out changes its protection context: it is no longer inside Secure Folder. Choose a PC folder and any later sharing or sync destination with that change in mind. An external drive can store a file once it has been moved out and is accessible through the phone’s supported workflow; it cannot unlock or browse Secure Folder itself.
Secure Folder backup availability
Samsung Canada says new Secure Folder backups are no longer supported, though restoring a previous backup may still be possible. Backup availability can vary by region and software, so check the current Secure Folder menu and local Samsung support before relying on a backup. Older Knox guidance describes backup workflows that should not be assumed to be available everywhere today. Samsung Canada’s current guidance covers its stated backup behavior.
