The AuditAI authors report applying 243 generated Supabase security migrations to real schemas. In 239 cases, they say a stranger could perform the action described by the underlying finding before the fix. But their excerpt does not establish what broke across applications: the authors did not run those apps, and they warn that changing a function to security invoker can break code that relied on the function owner’s rights.
What the 243-migration result says
The AuditAI article excerpt reports that the authors applied 243 generated security migrations to real schemas. Before each fix, they say, a stranger could do what the finding described in 239 cases. That is the authors’ count and framing; the accessible excerpt does not give the sample composition, definitions, or testing protocol needed to interpret the remaining cases or generalize the result.
The excerpt names two concrete categories:
- 152 of 152
SECURITY DEFINERfunctions ran foranonor signed-in users. - 34 of 34 tables without row-level security (RLS) were readable and writable.
These figures are reported by the AuditAI article authors; the article page’s publication date and the study year are not established in the accessible material. The excerpt does not provide a complete list of issue types or their counts. Read the AuditAI article.
What broke—and what the excerpt cannot establish
The authors state: “We did not run anyone’s app, and a security invoker fix can break an app that relied on the owner’s rights.” That is a compatibility warning, not evidence that every such fix fails or a count of application breakages.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Because the authors did not run the applications, the reported database-side findings do not show whether application workflows continued to work after migration. The accessible excerpt also does not identify a full breakage taxonomy, observed failure counts, or enough methodology to determine how the cases were selected and tested. It would be misleading to infer those details.
Why security fixes can change application behavior
A security migration can close a path that allowed an unauthenticated or signed-in request to access data or perform an operation. At the same time, changing a function from owner privileges to invoker privileges changes whose permissions govern its work. If application code depended on the function owner’s rights, that code may behave differently after the change.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5C NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5C NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
That trade-off is why a migration should be reviewed for both its security effect and its application behavior. Whether the change is appropriate depends on the intended access rules and how the application calls the affected function; the excerpt does not provide enough detail to prescribe a specific fix for every case.

Supabase’s policy-authoring guidance recommends retrieving the relevant schema information, usually for public, before writing policies. It distinguishes anon requests from authenticated requests and maps policy clauses to operations: SELECT and DELETE use USING; INSERT uses WITH CHECK; and UPDATE commonly uses both. It also says not to combine multiple operations in one policy. These are Supabase’s instructions for policy authoring, not independent validation of the SQL in the AuditAI article. See Supabase’s RLS policy prompt.

- Check the actual schema and migration history. Confirm that the migration matches the project’s current schema and the intended objects; do not assume generated SQL reflects later schema changes.
- Check the request role and operation. For each policy, verify which roles it applies to and whether the policy clause matches the operation being allowed or denied.
- Review function privilege changes. For each affected function, understand which permissions will govern its work after the change, and identify application code that may rely on owner rights.
- Test the intended behavior. Exercise relevant application paths under the roles and operations the policy is meant to govern. A database-side security result alone cannot establish that application workflows still work.
- Plan recovery against the project’s real state. Supabase’s CLI backup and restore guide covers dumping roles, schema, and data, preserving migration history separately, and separately restoring customizations to managed
authandstorageschemas. It also notes that diff behavior varies betweenpg-deltaand legacymigra, with thepg-deltaflow excluding some managed platform objects while capturing certain customizations. Read Supabase’s backup and restore guide.
The practical conclusion is narrower than “generated fixes are safe” or “generated fixes break apps”: the AuditAI authors report security findings that were reproducible before fixes in most of their cases, while their excerpt does not establish application compatibility after those fixes. Treat the migration as a security change that still needs review and application-level testing.
