This n8n workflow turns a topic, target audience, and tone into 10 short content hooks in JSON. It is listed in the official n8n template gallery as “Generate social content hooks with OpenAI GPT-4o-mini,” credited to Haopeng Zhang and marked “Use for free.” You need an OpenAI credential or connection, and you run it manually. See the official n8n template listing.

What the n8n content-hook workflow does

You provide three inputs: a topic, an audience, and a tone. The workflow uses OpenAI GPT-4o-mini and returns a hooks field containing JSON with 10 short hooks. The gallery listing describes the template and its manual execution, but does not specify every node in the workflow. The official listing

Zhang describes the workflow as four steps: a Manual Trigger, an Edit Fields (Set) node for the three inputs, an OpenAI node using GPT-4o-mini, and output containing the hooks. That node-by-node description is the author’s account; the gallery confirms the overall inputs, model, and output rather than naming those exact nodes. Zhang’s article

How to set up and run it

  1. Import the template. Open the official n8n gallery listing and use its workflow template.
  2. Connect OpenAI. Add an OpenAI credential or connection in n8n. The gallery identifies this as a setup requirement; it does not specify a credential cost.
  3. Edit the inputs. Enter the topic, audience, and tone you want the hooks to address.
  4. Run it manually. Execute the workflow and inspect the returned JSON in the hooks field.

The gallery says you can extend the workflow with downstream nodes to send or save results in destinations such as Google Sheets, email, or social publishing. These are possible additions, not part of the three-input-to-JSON result itself. Official template details

What kinds of hooks it generates

Zhang says the prompt requests two hooks in each of five styles:

  • Contrarian: challenges a common assumption.
  • Curiosity gap: raises a question or leaves a reason to keep reading.
  • Result-first: leads with an outcome.
  • Story: frames the idea as a brief narrative.
  • Question: opens with a question for the intended audience.

These are the prompt’s requested formats, not evidence that any style performs better. The sources do not establish hook quality, engagement gains, time saved, or other performance outcomes.

Example inputs and hooks

Zhang’s example uses the topic “AI automations for small teams,” the audience “busy founders,” and a direct tone. The article offers sample hooks about replacing SaaS subscriptions, the practical AI founders need, copy-paste work, a Monday report, and a 20-minute build. They illustrate the kind of output the author presents; they are not independent test results or proof of effectiveness. Example from Zhang’s article

What to know before publishing the workflow

Zhang also describes lessons from submitting the template to the gallery. The author recommends using explanatory section headers, color, and sizing notes to make a workflow’s sticky notes cover and explain its nodes. Zhang says the setup section needs more than 50 words and describes review as an AI pass followed by a human pass. These are the author’s account of their submission experience, not rules independently confirmed by the gallery listing. Zhang’s submission account
