There is no single Gears of War: E-Day graphics preset that guarantees no lag or maximum FPS on every PC. Your result depends on hardware, resolution, game build, drivers, upscaling and frame generation. Start with a preset, measure performance on your system, then adjust settings toward a frame rate and image quality your display can use.
What to know before changing graphics settings
- Gears of War: E-Day for PC supports configurable display modes, uncapped frame rates on capable hardware, ultrawide displays, DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, optional frame generation, Variable Rate Shading and an in-game benchmark. Available options can depend on your hardware. Steam’s PC listing confirms the feature set.
- Steam lists 115 GB of required storage and says an SSD is required. An SSD is an installation requirement, not evidence that replacing a suitable SSD will increase your FPS.
- The Xbox product page describes 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS across Campaign and Multiplayer. That is an Xbox platform description, not a PC performance guarantee. See the Xbox product page.
- Steam’s live minimum and recommended PC requirements are the best place to check whether your hardware meets the current listed specs. Requirements can change, so check before buying or upgrading. The official specs announcement says its specs image was updated September 28, 2026. Read the PC specs announcement.
How to find the right settings for your PC
- Check the current requirements and installation. Compare your PC with the live Steam requirements, confirm the game is installed on an SSD, and update your graphics driver. An earlier official beta FAQ also advised updating drivers and using an SSD, but that beta-era advice is not a replacement for the final PC requirements. Read the beta FAQ.
- Choose a realistic target. Use the display resolution you want to play at and set a frame-rate target that suits your monitor and preference. Higher resolution and image quality can reduce frame rate; an uncapped setting does not mean your PC can sustain every frame rate.
- Start with a built-in preset. Run the in-game benchmark and note the result. It provides a consistent baseline for comparing changes, but it is not an exact substitute for live gameplay.
- Test a representative gameplay area. Play a scene with the action and effects you expect to encounter. Pay attention to frame-time consistency and responsiveness as well as average FPS; a high average can still feel uneven if performance fluctuates.
- Change one setting at a time. Rerun the benchmark after each change, then verify the result in the same gameplay area. Keeping other settings constant makes it easier to tell whether a change actually helped.
Which settings should you try first?
If you are GPU-limited
Try DLSS or AMD FSR at an image-quality mode you find acceptable, then compare the result with native rendering. Upscaling can improve performance on supported hardware, but the best mode depends on your resolution, GPU and tolerance for softness or visual artifacts. Check image quality and input responsiveness in actual play rather than assuming one mode is best for everyone. Steam confirms support for DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone; it does not prescribe a universal mode.
If you want to use frame generation
Frame generation is optional and hardware-dependent. It can increase the number of displayed frames on supported hardware, but generated frames are not the same as faster base rendering and do not guarantee more responsive controls. Compare how the game feels, not just the displayed FPS, with the option on and off.

If you are deciding between a preset and individual settings
A built-in preset is a practical starting point, not a proven best configuration. Available evidence does not establish a universal setting-by-setting performance ranking or show that ray tracing must always be disabled. One Tom’s Guide reviewer reported using High settings and DLSS on a PC with a Ryzen 7 9700X, GeForce RTX 5070 and 32 GB of RAM; that is one system’s setup, not a recipe or prediction for other PCs. Read the Tom’s Guide performance report.

If you are considering Low Core Mode
Do not treat Low Core Mode as a general FPS boost. Tom’s Hardware found that it reduced performance across its pool of 25 tested CPUs. It helped in a specially constrained two-core test, where the setup had severe limits involving asset streaming and performance. That result makes it a troubleshooting option for an unusually constrained CPU configuration, not a default optimization. Read Tom’s Hardware’s benchmark report.
What the published performance numbers mean
Individual benchmarks show why a PC-specific test matters; they are not promises of what your system will deliver.

| Tom’s Guide, Ryzen 7 9700X, GeForce RTX 5070 and 32 GB of RAM | 50 FPS at 4K High without the reviewer’s described DLSS frame-generation/upscaling boosts; 115 FPS after enabling them | A result from one reviewer’s PC and test setup. It does not predict performance on other hardware. |
| Tom’s Hardware, CPU testing | Low Core Mode reduced performance across a pool of 25 tested CPUs, but helped in a specially constrained two-core case | Specific to the publication’s test setup; it argues against enabling the mode by default. |
| Xbox product page | 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS across Campaign and Multiplayer | An Xbox platform description, not a PC benchmark or a promise for every PC. |
Tom’s Hardware found the in-game benchmark to be a reasonable approximation of gameplay, although its results differed slightly from tested in-game scenes. Use it to compare settings consistently, then confirm the experience during actual play.
How to judge whether a change is worthwhile
- Frame rate and consistency: Check whether average FPS improves and whether performance feels more consistent during demanding sections.
- Image quality: Look for unwanted softness or artifacts after changing resolution or upscaling.
- Input response: Notice whether aiming and movement feel responsive, especially when testing frame generation.
- System limit: Determine whether your performance is constrained by the GPU or CPU before making changes aimed at the other component.
- Your display: Set goals around the resolution and refresh rate you actually use, rather than chasing an uncapped number you cannot benefit from.
There is no universal numeric threshold for these trade-offs. Your benchmark and gameplay observations are the useful comparison for your PC.
