To complete Flyboys in Gears of War: E-Day, mount the King Raven’s side minigun when prompted, use short bursts, and focus on enemies attacking the aircraft. Follow the changing objectives from the transit bridge to the airfield; the chapter ends after you survive the second defense wave and the landing sequence begins.
What to expect in Flyboys
Flyboys is an aerial combat chapter rather than a conventional cover-shooter level. You spend almost the entire mission on a King Raven’s mounted minigun, defending the aircraft and supporting Gears below. The walkthrough describes no ground movement or manual weapon swapping in this chapter. Its objective sequence moves from attackers on a transit bridge to Seeders, rooftop support, flying enemies, and the airfield.

How to manage the Raven’s minigun
- Fire in measured bursts. Watch the heat gauge and avoid sustained fire that sends the minigun into cooldown as enemies close in.
- Prioritize active threats. Shoot enemies firing on the Raven instead of trying to eliminate every visible target.
- Use fuel tankers when enemies cluster nearby. The walkthrough says shooting a tanker detonates it and can damage nearby groups.
- Wait out camera swings. During evasive maneuvers, pause until the Raven levels out and your aim is clear rather than firing blindly and building heat.
Flyboys walkthrough: from takeoff to the airfield
- Board the King Raven at Oria Stadium. Daan introduces Bravo squad at the Oria Stadium FOB. Marcus, Carter, Santiago, and Reyes board the aircraft, and pilot Gill takes off. This opening is a cutscene; there is nothing to fight yet.
- Protect the Raven. After an explosion, Gill calls the crew to the weapons. Mount the side minigun when the “Protect your Raven” objective appears. Target enemies launching ink from the elevated transit bridge—the walkthrough identifies them as the attackers hitting the aircraft.
- Target the Seeders. When the objective changes to “Target the Seeders,” shoot the large Seeders in the streets and nearby ground units. If enemies are grouped around a fuel tanker, hit it to damage multiple targets.
- Support the Gears on the rooftop. At the rooftop extraction, the objective becomes “Support the Gears on the rooftop.” The soldiers are pinned down by a horde. Focus on threats around the windows and heavier enemies to help protect the landing zone.
- Watch for flyers around the Raven. After a nearby Raven is pulled down, flying creatures join the attack. Check the rooftops and both sides of the buildings; according to the walkthrough, enemies keep spawning until the next checkpoint.
- Defend the aircraft across the bay. The fight continues over flooded streets and the bay as squid-like flyers swarm the Raven. Gill performs evasive maneuvers, so reacquire your aim when the aircraft steadies. More enemies appear around Fort Vigil and the naval port near the CNV Safehold.
- Survive the second defense wave. After the first marker, there is a pause before another wave. Defend the Raven again, then stop firing when the wave is cleared and the aircraft begins its approach to the airfield.
When Flyboys is complete
Flyboys ends at the airfield when you lose control and a cutscene begins. The squad meets base commander Zee. After the landing, creatures emerge beneath the airfield, setting up Chapter 5, Overrun. The walkthrough reports no final boss or score screen before the story moves on. The objective sequence and tactics here follow the third-party walkthrough by Pallav Pathak, updated October 7, 2026; it does not establish difficulty-specific changes or exact damage thresholds.
