The Garmin HRM 200 is a solid entry-level chest strap if you want heart-rate and HRV readings, broad connection options, and a replaceable battery. Independent reviewer Andy Turner of Cyclingnews praised its comfort and accuracy, but the review did not report a controlled head-to-head accuracy test. Its main tradeoff is a replaceable CR2032 coin cell rather than a rechargeable battery. Whether it is the right buy depends on your device compatibility, fit, feature needs, and local price.
What the Garmin HRM 200 does
Garmin announced the HRM 200 on January 6, 2025. It transmits heart-rate and heart-rate variability (HRV) data to compatible Garmin watches, Edge cycling computers, fitness equipment, the Tacx Training app, and other apps. Garmin lists running, indoor and outdoor cycling, strength training, and other activities as intended uses. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent comparative performance results. Garmin’s announcement also says a small blinking LED indicates when the strap is awake or its battery is running low.
Will HRM 200 work with your watch or bike computer?
Compatibility depends on the receiver and connection type. Garmin’s April 2026 manual describes secure Bluetooth and open connection types. Secure Bluetooth is encrypted and authenticated for compatible Garmin devices; some devices may need a software update. Garmin recommends open Bluetooth for third-party smartwatches, tablets, or fitness equipment. ANT+ and some Bluetooth connections are open. Check the receiving device’s specifications and confirm it supports the connection you plan to use before buying. Garmin’s HRM 200 manual has connection details.
Cyclingnews lists three concurrent Bluetooth Low Energy connections and unlimited ANT+ connections. That can matter if you want the strap to send data to more than one Bluetooth device at once. Cyclingnews’ review provides those specifications.

Is the Garmin HRM 200 accurate?
Andy Turner’s Cyclingnews review, published September 21, 2026, describes the HRM 200’s accuracy and comfort positively. The review does not establish a controlled head-to-head accuracy test, so treat that as the reviewer’s assessment rather than a lab-validated result or a guarantee for every wearer and activity. The available evidence does not support quoting an accuracy percentage.
Which HRM 200 size should you get?
Garmin offers XS-S and M-XL straps. Cyclingnews reports these chest-size ranges:

The ranges overlap from 80 to 85 cm (31.5 to 33.5 in). Measure your chest and check the current product listing for your region when choosing between them. Cyclingnews measured the M-XL unit at 63 g (2.2 oz) with its strap. The reviewer found the strap easy to adjust and comfortable in their use.

Battery life, water resistance, and care
Battery
The HRM 200 uses a user-replaceable, non-rechargeable CR2032 3 V coin-cell battery. Garmin’s April 2026 manual estimates up to one year of battery life at one hour of use per day. Garmin says the typical figure was tested in laboratory conditions and that actual life depends on enabled features and environmental factors; it is not a guarantee for every usage pattern.
Rank #3
- Sends accurate real-time heart rate and HRV data to compatible Garmin smartwatches and cycling computers, fitness equipment, and apps
- Comfortable machine-washable strap is available in two sizes (XS–S and M–XL) for the most ideal fit for your body type
- Understand how much you slow down when your foot hits the ground with step speed loss, and improve your running form with additional running dynamics, including stride length, vertical oscillation and ground contact time balance (requires compatible smartwatch)
- During activities where you can’t wear a watch, such as team sports, HRM 600 will record the workout and sync data, including heart rate, calories, speed, distance and more, directly to the Garmin Connect smartphone app
- Tracks daily metrics, including estimated steps, heart rate, calories burned and more, and syncs that data directly to the Garmin Connect smartphone app
Water resistance and temperature
Garmin rates the HRM 200 at 3 ATM, which it explains as pressure equivalent to a depth of 30 m. That rating should not be read as an unrestricted claim that it is suitable for every swimming use. Garmin specifies an operating temperature range of 0–40°C (32–104°F).
Fit and washing
Detach the module before machine-washing the strap. Cyclingnews reports Garmin recommends removing the module and washing the strap after every seven uses; consult the current local manual for complete care instructions.

How it compares with other Garmin chest straps
Garmin’s April 2026 comparison positions the HRM 200 as a heart-rate essentials option with HRV data and a replaceable battery. Its other products serve different priorities:
| Model | Garmin’s stated positioning | Consider it if you need |
|---|---|---|
| HRM 200 | Heart-rate and HRV data; up to one year of battery life at one hour per day | A chest strap with a replaceable coin cell and core heart-rate features |
| HRM-Fit | Sports-bra attachment and selected running-dynamics features | A sports-bra attachment or those specific running features |
| HRM 600 | Rechargeable battery, workout recording, and additional running and swimming functions with compatible devices | Onboard recording or the additional functions it supports |
These are Garmin’s product descriptions, not a claim that every advanced feature works with every compatible watch. Check the compatibility requirements for the function you want. Garmin’s comparison page lists its positioning for these models.

- SUPREME ACCURACY: Widely recognized for its top precision by many sources, Polar H10 is the most accurate heart rate sensor in Polar's history. Polar H10 provides top quality measurement.
- CONNECTIVITY: Bluetooth, ANT plus and 5 kHz provide an excellent variety of connection options. You can use Bluetooth and ANT plus connections simultaneously as well as two Bluetooth connections simultaneously.
- POLAR PRO CHEST STRAP: With improved electrodes, an easy-to-use buckle and silicone dots, the strap is comfortable and interference-free.
- VERSATILITY: Polar H10 is fully waterproof and it has internal memory for multiple hours.
Is the Garmin HRM 200 worth it?
It is a reasonable choice if your device supports it, one of the two sizes fits, and you want heart-rate and HRV transmission without paying for features you do not need. The main reasons to look elsewhere are a preference for rechargeable power, a need for onboard workout recording or additional functions, or a lower local price from another compatible strap. Cyclingnews also identifies Polar H9 and H10, Wahoo Trackr, Garmin HRM Dual, and 4iiii Viiiiva among products in its cycling-monitor comparison; the available information here does not establish a fair feature-by-feature verdict against those models.
Garmin’s suggested U.S. retail price at the January 2025 announcement was $79.99. Cyclingnews’ September 2026 review listed £79.99, $79.99, and €89.99. Those are dated prices, not confirmation of current price, stock, or seller terms. Check your local listing and return policy before ordering. Cyclingnews’ heart-rate monitor comparison includes additional models to consider.
