Choose the Garmin Enduro 3 if battery life, solar charging, a sunlight-visible MIP display, and a relatively light 51 mm watch matter most. Choose a fēnix 8 if you want to pick between AMOLED and solar MIP screens, need a smaller case option, or value fēnix features such as voice functions and diving capabilities on eligible models. Compare the exact fēnix 8 size and display: the family does not have one set of specifications.

Enduro 3 vs. fēnix 8: the key differences

Garmin’s Enduro 3 and fēnix 8 overlap on many outdoor and training features. The clearest differences are battery estimates, display choices, case sizes, and certain fēnix-specific functions. The figures below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results.

Which watch has the best battery life?

On Garmin’s listed smartwatch-mode estimates, the Enduro 3 has the longest maximum: up to 36 days, or up to 90 days with solar. That does not mean every Enduro 3 will last that long in everyday use. Enabled features, sensors, GPS use, display behavior, and solar exposure affect runtime.

For a like-size reference, Garmin lists the 47 mm AMOLED fēnix 8 at up to 16 days in smartwatch mode, dropping to 7 days with the display always on. The 47 mm Solar fēnix 8 is listed at up to 21 days, or 28 days with solar. Those numbers describe different configurations and conditions, so they are not a controlled head-to-head test.

Garmin’s fēnix 8 manual says its solar battery claims assume all-day wear and three hours outdoors each day in 50,000-lux conditions. Actual battery life depends on enabled watch features and sensors. Treat maximum figures as estimates under Garmin’s stated assumptions, not as guaranteed runtimes.

AMOLED or solar MIP: which display should you choose?

Choose AMOLED if screen appearance is your priority

The fēnix 8 offers AMOLED configurations. If you prefer that display type, compare the battery estimate for the exact case size and whether you intend to keep the screen always on. Garmin’s 47 mm AMOLED estimates illustrate the difference between its standard smartwatch-mode figure and always-on use.

Choose MIP if you want a sunlight-visible screen and solar option

The Enduro 3 uses a sunlight-visible transflective MIP display and solar charging. A fēnix 8 Solar configuration also pairs MIP with solar, so MIP is not exclusive to Enduro. Choose between them based on case size, battery estimate, and the rest of the feature set rather than assuming every fēnix 8 has solar.

Size, weight, and fit

The Enduro 3 is a 51 mm watch, weighing 63 g with its included band or 57 g without it. That makes it a relatively light option for its listed case size, but the 51 mm format may not suit every wrist or preference.

The fēnix 8 lineup includes 43, 47, and 51 mm models in the compared configurations. If you want a smaller case, a fēnix size may be a better fit. Battery and display specifications differ across those configurations, so check the precise size before buying.

What features do the watches share, and what differs?

Garmin lists built-in mapping, multi-band GPS, training readiness, music, Garmin Pay, an LED flashlight, and a 10 ATM water rating for the compared Enduro 3 and fēnix 8 models. The overlap means the decision is not simply “outdoor watch versus lifestyle watch”; both are positioned for outdoor and training use.

Voice call and text functions appear in Garmin’s fēnix 8 comparison but not in the Enduro 3 comparison. Diving features are also a fēnix distinction on eligible models. Confirm that the exact fēnix configuration offers the function you need, and check phone and regional compatibility before relying on voice or messaging features.

How to choose the right Garmin adventure watch

  • Pick Enduro 3 if maximum listed smartwatch battery life, solar charging, a MIP display, and a 51 mm case are your priorities.
  • Pick fēnix 8 AMOLED if you want an AMOLED screen, a choice of case sizes, or fēnix functions that matter to you.
  • Pick fēnix 8 Solar if you want MIP and solar in the fēnix line, particularly in a size other than the Enduro 3’s 51 mm format.
  • Compare the right battery mode. Smartwatch, always-on display, GPS, and multi-band GPS use are not interchangeable conditions for battery estimates.
  • Check the exact regional configuration and price. Garmin’s US price listings and feature availability may not reflect current offers or options in every market.
