If you want fast attacks, tight timing windows, parries and weapon-driven combo decisions, start with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for the closest broad action/Soulslike audience overlap. Choose Sifu for cinematic martial-arts duels, Nioh 2 for deep weapon and stance customization, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty for deflect-focused Chinese fantasy combat, Devil May Cry 5 for expressive combo mastery, or Lies of P for a more traditional, punishing action RPG. None is a confirmed mechanical twin for Phantom Blade Zero; each matches a different part of its appeal.
What Phantom Blade Zero is promising
Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming single-player action RPG from S-GAME. Its story follows Soul, a warrior framed for murdering his master who has only 66 days left to live while he investigates a conspiracy across the Wulin. The presentation combines dark wuxia, Chinese martial-arts cinema and what the studio calls “kungfupunk”: traditional aesthetics mixed with cold steel, mechanical prosthetics, industrial ruins and modern rock.
The combat pitch is equally specific. Official descriptions focus on seamless combos, rapid weapon changes and a flow of dodging, deflecting, countering and striking. The arsenal is unusually broad for an action RPG. A developer-authored PlayStation Blog post says players can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. The official PlayStation US page and Steam listing instead describe 30-plus main weapons and 20-plus Phantom Edges. Because the official pages use different counts, treat the safe conclusion as “30-plus main weapons and a large secondary arsenal,” not one exact total.

Weapons can be upgraded and paired with accessories, and summons are listed as additional combat options. Steam’s user-defined tags include Action RPG, Martial Arts, Wuxia, Souls-like, Hack and Slash, Third Person, Combat and Fast-Paced. Those tags describe positioning, not proof that the game copies another title’s systems.

At the time of the latest official information, the game had not released. PlayStation lists October 29, 2026, as the global date. Steam displays October 28, 2026, which appears to be a storefront time-zone presentation. S-GAME previously announced a move from September 9 to October 29, 2026, to allow additional improvement and polish. Final performance, launch-day availability, complete difficulty balance and review consensus therefore remain unknown.

Use that table as a starting point rather than a definitive ranking. “Like Phantom Blade Zero” can mean fast tempo, precise defense, martial-arts presentation, weapon variety or a dark cinematic world; no single alternative maximizes all five.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — choose it for uncompromising timing
Sekiro is the clearest recommendation if your priority is reading an enemy’s attack and answering immediately. Its central duel loop rewards deflecting in rhythm, maintaining pressure and breaking an opponent’s posture instead of waiting safely for a large damage window. That makes every encounter feel like a conversation of attacks and responses.

You do not get Phantom Blade Zero’s advertised catalogue of more than 30 main weapons and numerous Phantom Edges. Your combat identity is built around one primary sword, a prosthetic arm and a small set of tools. That narrower design lets the game tune enemies around a precise timing language, while Phantom Blade Zero is presenting weapon switching and loadout expression as major attractions.
Choose Sekiro when you want demanding one-on-one mastery and can accept a comparatively fixed character. Avoid it if adjustable difficulty, extensive loot or changing weapon move sets matter more than parry precision. The connection is best described as a shared action/Soulslike audience, not a proven one-to-one mechanical match.

Sifu — choose it for martial-arts choreography
Sifu is built around the physical vocabulary of modern kung-fu films: rapid hand combinations, sweeps, throws, directional avoidance and improvised use of the environment. Encounters reward positioning and recognizing attack patterns, so a successful run looks deliberate even when the animation is extremely fast.
Its structure is different from a conventional action RPG. You replay a sequence of compact locations, improve your execution and use a supernatural aging system that raises the stakes after failure. There is no equivalent of Phantom Blade Zero’s stated main-weapon and Phantom Edge collection. That makes Sifu a strong choice for readers who mainly want cinematic martial-arts exchanges, not for readers shopping for a large equipment menu.

Nioh 2 — choose it for the deepest loadout decisions
Nioh 2 offers one of the most elaborate combat toolkits in this group. Weapons have distinct move sets, stances change how attacks behave, ki management affects offense and defense, and skills and equipment create substantial build variety. That makes it a useful comparison point for Phantom Blade Zero’s promise that weapon selection and accessories let players express a personal style.
The cost of that flexibility is complexity. Nioh 2 is loot-heavy, and effective play involves comparing statistics, effects and set bonuses as well as learning enemy timing. Its missions and Japanese supernatural setting also differ from the Wulin investigation and “kungfupunk” visual identity described for Phantom Blade Zero.

Choose Nioh 2 if changing weapons and optimizing a build are as important to you as animation speed. It is less suitable if you want a clean, cinematic flow with minimal inventory management.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty — choose it for Chinese-fantasy deflects
Wo Long is the natural pick when setting matters almost as much as combat. It uses a Three Kingdoms-inspired Chinese fantasy world and makes deflect timing central to surviving attacks and creating openings. Martial-arts skills and wizardry spells add options around the core deflect loop.
That overlap should not be overstated. Wo Long is organized around missions and morale progression, while Phantom Blade Zero is presented as a single-player action RPG centered on Soul’s dark wuxia pursuit. Its equipment and progression systems also create a different rhythm from a game marketed around seamless weapon changes and cinematic combos.
Choose Wo Long if you want Chinese visual language and a deflect-first system today. Choose another option if you specifically want a large set of distinct weapons whose switching is the headline feature.
Devil May Cry 5 — choose it for speed and style expression
Devil May Cry 5 is the strongest fit for players who define “precise action” as controlling a long, varied combo. Attacks can be linked in the air, canceled into movement and extended with character-specific tools. The style ranking system rewards variety, clean execution and staying aggressive rather than repeating a safe move.

It is not a Soulslike substitute. Encounters are designed around spectacle, score and replayable performance, not corpse runs, build planning or cautious exploration. The tone is also modern supernatural action rather than wuxia. Still, its emphasis on learning a move set and making split-second decisions makes it valuable if Phantom Blade Zero’s combo footage is what attracted you.
Pick Devil May Cry 5 for the highest ceiling in free-form combo performance. Pick a more defensive action RPG if you want parries, stamina-style commitment or a slower consequence for mistakes.
Lies of P — choose it for guard timing and a structured RPG
Lies of P offers a more conventional action-RPG framework: a linear journey, upgradeable weapons, stamina management and a guard system in which well-timed perfect guards create opportunities. Weapon assembly lets you combine components, giving equipment choice a direct effect on attacks.
Its combat generally feels heavier and more deliberate than the rapid kungfupunk presentation promised for Phantom Blade Zero. The setting is gothic and mechanical rather than Chinese wuxia, and its challenge is designed around learning enemy patterns. Those differences make it a useful choice for readers who want precision inside a traditional Soulslike structure, not a visual or thematic replacement.
How to decide which game fits your priorities
If timing and counterplay come first
Start with Sekiro for posture-focused deflects, then consider Wo Long for a Chinese-fantasy setting or Lies of P for a heavier guard-and-upgrade loop. These games make defensive timing a central decision rather than an optional flourish.

If martial-arts authenticity and cinematic movement come first
Choose Sifu. Its encounter design is built around close-range kung-fu choreography and repeated practice. Phantom Blade Zero may appeal more if you also want a large arsenal and a continuous action-RPG journey.
If weapon variety and buildcraft come first
Choose Nioh 2. It gives the most elaborate combination of weapon move sets, stances, skills and equipment. Phantom Blade Zero’s official descriptions promise more than 30 main weapons, Phantom Edges and accessories, but they do not yet establish how deeply each weapon changes progression or move sets.
If pure combo creativity comes first
Choose Devil May Cry 5. Its scoring system and character-specific mechanics make experimentation the point. It is a poor fit if what you want is a wuxia world, exploration or Soulslike recovery mechanics.
What to verify before buying Phantom Blade Zero
Because the game is unreleased at the stated date, separate confirmed features from expectations:
- Release timing: PlayStation’s official date is October 29, 2026; Steam shows October 28, likely because of storefront time-zone display.
- Platforms: The reviewed official listings cover PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. Do not assume additional platforms without a new announcement.
- Difficulty: A GamesRadar hands-on preview found the sampled normal opening fairly forgiving, with reasonably long parry windows and room to absorb a few hits. That was a limited pre-release session, not a final difficulty assessment.
- Customization: PlayStation describes basic adjustable difficulty, offline pausing, manual saves, control and tutorial reminders, subtitle options, DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics. Those claims are for the PS5 page and should not automatically be applied to PC.
- Weapon counts: Official pages disagree on the exact number of Phantom Edges, so treat the arsenal as large rather than relying on one precise total.
- Availability: Final launch performance, physical-edition details and store availability were not established in the available official material.
A practical shortlist
- Buy Sekiro if your non-negotiable feature is precise deflect-and-counter combat.
- Buy Sifu if you want the most concentrated martial-arts film experience.
- Buy Nioh 2 if loadouts, stances and equipment experimentation matter most.
- Buy Wo Long if you want Chinese-inspired fantasy with deflects at the center.
- Buy Devil May Cry 5 if speed means expressive, score-chasing combos.
- Buy Lies of P if you prefer a more traditional, linear action RPG with guard timing.
Phantom Blade Zero’s distinctive proposition is the combination: dark wuxia storytelling, cinematic kung-fu, rapid counter-oriented combat and a broad weapon ecosystem. The alternatives above let you isolate the part you value most while waiting for the final game and its launch reviews.
