If you want open-world action and a build you can shape, try Elden Ring. If you want a more story-led adventure about hunting monsters and making consequential choices, choose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Neither is a direct replacement for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s customizable Pawn companion and vocation-based party feel, so the best pick depends on which part you want to keep.
What makes Dragon’s Dogma 2 hard to replace?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 combines action combat with a player-shaped character and a companion system. Capcom’s manual identifies four starting vocations—fighter, mage, archer, and thief—each with its own playstyle, strengths, and weaknesses. Sony describes customization for both the Arisen and the main Pawn, while Steam presents the game as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG in which the main Pawn accompanies the Arisen.

The official page lists single-player and online multiplayer modes and platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Do not choose it expecting the same companion-party structure: Bandai Namco’s description documents multiplayer options, but does not describe a Pawn party following the player.

The Witcher 3: choose it for authored quests and monster hunting
Pick The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if you would trade some of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s party-system appeal for a more story-led adventure. CD PROJEKT RED frames the game around Geralt’s work as a monster hunter, preparation with potions and blade oils, and choices that affect allies, enemies, and the world. Its official page also describes the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.

If what you want is more of the same setting and systems rather than a different RPG, Capcom announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for October 9, 2026. The announcement lists Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That is the announced release date; it does not independently confirm live storefront availability.
