The Galaxy Z Fold8 and REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G are built for different priorities: Samsung’s is a book-style foldable with an 8-inch inner display, while Xiaomi’s is a conventional phone with a 6.83-inch flat screen and a much larger stated battery. Official India sources do not establish a like-for-like price difference: Samsung lists a price for a specific Fold8 configuration, but Xiaomi’s official India pages located for this comparison do not state the Redmi’s price.
At a glance: a foldable versus a conventional phone
The Fold8’s defining feature is its folding design: it has an 8-inch main display and a cover screen Samsung specifies with a 10:16 aspect ratio. Xiaomi’s REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a single 6.83-inch flat AMOLED display. Samsung positions the inner screen for immersive viewing and the cover screen for quick tasks; those are manufacturer use-case descriptions, not independent productivity findings.

Which phone has the bigger screen?
The Fold8 has the larger screen when unfolded: its main display measures 8 inches, compared with the Redmi’s 6.83-inch display. That extra display area is available by opening the Fold8; the Redmi remains a single-screen phone. If a large, uninterrupted flat screen is what you want, the Redmi’s AMOLED panel is the relevant comparison, while the Fold8 offers a separate cover screen for use while closed.
Which has the bigger battery, and what does that tell you?
Xiaomi lists a 9,000mAh typical battery for the Redmi, compared with Samsung’s 4,800mAh battery for the Fold8. The Redmi also lists 67W charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging. Xiaomi describes its battery as silicon-carbon and says a 67W adapter is included in its India FAQ; that is manufacturer information, not a standardized endurance result. Samsung’s India purchase page says a travel adapter is not included.
Capacity alone cannot establish how long either phone lasts between charges. Display use, software, network conditions, and workload all affect runtime, and the official specifications cited here do not provide a directly comparable battery test. Treat the capacities and charging figures as hardware specifications, not a promise of a particular number of hours or days.

How do the processors and cameras compare?
Processor
Samsung lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy; Xiaomi lists the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. These are the manufacturers’ chip names, not benchmark results. No comparable independent performance test is established here, so the specifications alone do not support a numeric speed gap or a measured gaming-performance claim.
Rear cameras
Samsung Newsroom India describes a dual 50MP camera system. Xiaomi lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The megapixel counts and camera list describe hardware, not which phone takes better photos. Image quality depends on more than resolution, and no controlled side-by-side camera test is available in the cited material.

A defensible current price difference cannot be calculated from the official India pages cited here. Samsung’s purchase page shows an MRP of ₹184,999 for the Fold8 with 256GB storage and 12GB RAM; the page also displays a discounted figure of ₹174,999 and offer information that can change. Xiaomi’s official India specification and product pages located for this comparison do not state the Redmi’s price.
Rank #3
- Versatile Camera System: High-quality photography with multiple lenses and modes.
- One UI Software: User-friendly interface for an intuitive and seamless experience.
- Foldable Tablet Experience: Combines phone and tablet functionality seamlessly.
- Multi-Window App Continuity: Run multiple apps simultaneously for efficient multitasking.
- Built to last, the Fold5 includes IPX8 water resistance, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, an Armor Aluminum hinge, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for S Pen (sold separately) — combining rugged engineering with productivity.
For a useful comparison, check the current official price for the Redmi in India and compare the 256GB model with the Fold8’s 256GB/12GB configuration. Keep the market, date, storage tier, and price type consistent: an MRP should not be compared with a temporary sale price as though both were fixed prices. The Samsung figures above reflect the purchase-page information surfaced for this comparison and are not a global price or a guaranteed current offer.

- Consider the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you specifically want a foldable phone with an 8-inch inner display and the manufacturer-listed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Samsung’s Newsroom India described the 201g Fold8 as its lightest Galaxy Z Fold at the time of its 19 August 2026 article; that is Samsung’s promotional claim, not an independent assessment.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G if you prefer a conventional flat-screen phone and prioritize a much larger stated battery capacity, 67W charging, and wired reverse charging. Xiaomi lists the phone at 226g.
- Wait to decide on value until you have comparable current prices for the same market and storage tier. The available price information does not justify calling either phone the better value.
Weight, box contents, warranty and repair coverage, network compatibility, software support, and local availability can also affect a purchase. Verify those details for the exact regional model before ordering; the cited sources do not establish a complete matching comparison across all of them.
