In the U.S., Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99 before trade-in, while Google lists the standard Pixel 11 from $899. That is a $1,000 difference between manufacturer-listed starting prices, before promotions, trade-ins, taxes, or configuration changes. The bigger distinction is the hardware format: Fold8 opens into a tablet-like display; Pixel 11 is a conventional smartphone.
How do the starting prices compare?
The U.S. list-price gap is substantial, but it compares entry prices rather than identical configurations or purchase offers.
| Model | U.S. starting price | What the price represents |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | $1,899.99 | Samsung-listed starting price before trade-in; storage options begin at 256 GB. Samsung |
| Google Pixel 11 | $899 | Google-listed starting price for the standard Pixel 11, not the Pro or Pro Fold. Google |
| Difference | $1,000 | Calculated from the two U.S. manufacturer-listed starting prices; it is not a comparison of final checkout totals. |
Prices can change with region, storage, retailer, trade-in eligibility, and promotions. For a U.K. reference, Samsung lists Fold8 RRPs of £1,699 for 256 GB, £1,869 for 512 GB, and £2,209 for 1 TB. Samsung Newsroom U.K. The cited Google price is U.S.-only, so it does not establish a comparable U.K. Pixel 11 price or a U.K. price gap.

Galaxy Z Fold8: a phone that unfolds
Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display for use while closed and a 7.6-inch inner display when opened. That larger surface is the main reason to consider it: it can give reading, media, and multitasking more room than a standard phone screen. Samsung describes it as “a compact foldable designed to suit a variety of content for hours of immersive entertainment.”

Pixel 11: a conventional smartphone
The standard Pixel 11 is not the folding model in Google’s lineup. It is the more direct choice if you want a conventional phone rather than a device that opens into a larger screen. Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a separate model for buyers seeking a folding Pixel; Google announced it with a U.S. starting price of $1,899. Google’s Pixel 11 lineup announcement
What are the main specification differences?
| Specification | Galaxy Z Fold8 | Google Pixel 11 |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor and display | Foldable; 5.5-inch cover display and 7.6-inch inner display | Conventional smartphone; not the folding Pixel |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy | Tensor G6; Google calls it “our fastest, most powerful chip yet,” a company claim rather than an independent benchmark result |
| Rear camera specifications | 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultra-wide camera system | 48 MP main sensor and 5x telephoto camera, with up to 30x Super Zoom |
| Battery and stated endurance | 4,800 mAh; Samsung says video streaming lasts “up to 26 hours” | Comparable battery-capacity and independent endurance figures are not established by the cited specifications |
| Storage configurations | 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB | Matched configuration pricing is not established by the cited Google price source |
| Weight | 201 g, according to Samsung | Not stated in the cited Google source |
| Water and dust rating | IP48 | IP68 under the factory-rating conditions stated by Google |
| Software support | Not stated in the cited Samsung specifications | Seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates |
Specifications identify what each manufacturer says is inside; they do not establish which phone is faster in everyday use or takes better photos. No independent benchmark or side-by-side camera results are available here, so the camera megapixel counts and processor names should not be treated as performance or image-quality verdicts. Samsung’s “up to 26 hours” is its video-streaming claim, not an independent battery test.

What does the Fold8’s higher price buy—and what does it leave out?
The premium primarily buys the ability to switch between a regular cover screen and a much larger inner screen, plus the Fold8’s listed processor, camera system, and storage choices. Whether that is worthwhile depends on how often you would use the expanded display. If most of your time is spent on ordinary phone tasks, Pixel 11 avoids paying for a foldable format you may rarely open.
Fold8 has an IP48 rating, and Samsung says it does not support S Pen or FlexMode. Google lists IP68 for Pixel 11 under its factory-rating conditions. Neither water-and-dust rating guarantees protection from damage, and ratings are not a substitute for careful handling. Samsung’s Fold8 specifications Google’s Pixel 11 listing

Which one should you choose?
- Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 if a large screen that fits in a phone-sized folded device is worth paying a substantial premium for your reading, media, or multitasking habits.
- Choose Pixel 11 if you want a conventional smartphone, want to spend less at the listed U.S. starting price, or place particular value on Google’s stated seven-year update commitment.
- Consider Pixel 11 Pro Fold separately if your priority is a folding phone from Google. It is a different model from the standard Pixel 11, and its U.S. announced starting price is $1,899.
Neither price comparison nor specification list settles which device is the better fit for every buyer: the deciding question is whether you will make enough use of Fold8’s larger unfolded screen to justify its extra cost.
