The base Galaxy Z Fold8 is not a larger-screen replacement for the Fold7: Samsung gives it smaller main and cover displays, a different shape and a lower listed weight. For U.S. buyers, the Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 for 256GB on Samsung.com, compared with the Fold7’s $1,999.99 U.S. launch price in 2025. Those prices are not a matched comparison of current offers.

Samsung’s stated diagonal measurements are manufacturer figures; the viewable area can differ around rounded corners and camera openings. Fold8’s battery playback estimate varies with network connection, settings, file format, brightness and battery condition. Samsung gives its rated battery capacity as 4,660 mAh, distinct from the 4,800 mAh typical capacity.
Which phone has the bigger screen?
The Fold7 has the larger stated diagonal for both displays: 8.0 inches unfolded and 6.5 inches on the cover, compared with 7.6 inches and 5.5 inches on the base Fold8. Samsung positions the Fold8’s 4:3 unfolded orientation and 10:16 cover ratio as a different, content-focused form factor, rather than simply carrying forward the Fold7’s dimensions. Samsung’s Fold8 product information and its Fold7 announcement provide the respective specifications.

If a large unfolded display is the priority, note that Samsung separately lists the Fold8 Ultra with an 8-inch main screen. The base Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra are distinct models, not different names for the same configuration.

How different are the weight and battery?
Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g and the Fold7 at 215 g, a 14 g nominal difference. The published figures establish that the Fold8 is lighter on paper, but do not measure how comfortable either phone feels in hand.
Samsung lists the Fold8’s typical battery capacity as 4,800 mAh and estimates more than 26 hours of video playback from internal pre-release testing. It also reports a 4,660 mAh rated capacity. Because the cited sources do not provide a comparable Fold7 battery figure or matched endurance test, these figures cannot establish that the Fold8 lasts longer than the Fold7.

What are the U.S. prices and storage options?
Samsung.com’s U.S. unlocked listing, observed October 7, 2026, showed these Fold8 list prices. The Fold7 figure is its official U.S. starting launch price from 2025, not a current matched retail quote.

At the entry point, the Fold8’s observed 256GB list price is $100 below the Fold7’s historical launch MSRP. That is a comparison of a current store listing with a past launch price—not evidence that the Fold8 is $100 cheaper than the Fold7 costs today. Samsung’s prices, carrier offers, trade-ins and promotions can change; compare the same storage capacity, condition, retailer and purchase terms before deciding.

What is known about the cameras and processor?
Samsung’s Fold7 announcement specifies a 200MP wide camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and 10MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom. Its U.S. Fold8 page uses the summary “Dual 50 MP Camera,” but the official information cited here does not provide a full camera breakdown suitable for a one-to-one comparison. The available specifications therefore do not establish which phone has the better overall camera system.
The Fold7 is specified with Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. The official Fold8 sources cited here do not confirm its processor, so a definitive chip comparison would go beyond the available published specifications.

Availability and choosing between them
The Fold7 became generally available in the U.S. on July 25, 2025. Fold8 sales began August 7, 2026, in select markets, with rollout expanding globally. Exact availability varies by country and carrier; Samsung’s launch announcement describes the rollout.
- Choose the Fold7 if: you want the larger stated main and cover display diagonals of these two base models.
- Consider the base Fold8 if: its smaller, differently proportioned screens suit your use and its lower listed weight matters to you.
- Look at the Fold8 Ultra if: your deciding requirement is an 8-inch main screen in Samsung’s 2026 Fold8 lineup.
For the price decision, check current local listings rather than treating the Fold7 launch MSRP as its present price. For battery life, camera quality or processor performance, the figures cited here do not provide matched Fold7-versus-Fold8 evidence.
