For private listening, Bluetooth earbuds usually sound better; for convenience and sharing, the Galaxy Z Fold7’s stereo speakers are the better tool. Earbuds can deliver more convincing bass, detail and isolation when they fit well, while the Fold7 speakers are loud, clear and immediately available for videos, podcasts or a roomful of listeners. The result depends on the earbuds, ear-tip seal, track, volume and audio settings—not simply on whether the sound comes from the phone or a wireless accessory.

There is no published, controlled test that declares the Fold7 speakers superior or inferior to every Bluetooth earbud. The practical comparison below uses Samsung’s documented audio features and published listening impressions, then shows how to make a fair test with your own equipment.

What the Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers do well

The Galaxy Z Fold7 has stereo speakers designed for immediate playback. You do not need to pair anything, charge a second device or put hardware in your ears. Samsung lists the Fold7’s specifications on its official product page: Galaxy Z Fold7 specifications.

A TechRadar review characterizes the speakers as loud and clear, while warning that they do not produce booming bass (TechRadar’s Galaxy Z Fold7 review). That is a reviewer’s subjective impression, not a laboratory measurement or a guarantee for every listener, but it matches the usual role of a thin phone speaker: intelligible voices and energetic casual playback rather than the physical low-end impact of a larger speaker or a well-sealed earbud.

Best uses for the built-in speakers

  • Watching a short video when you do not want to connect an accessory.
  • Listening to a podcast, navigation prompt or voice message while working around the room.
  • Sharing a clip, photo slideshow or song with another person in a quiet space.
  • Keeping both ears open while cooking, monitoring a child or waiting for an announcement.

Where the speakers are limited

  • Small drivers have less ability to move air at very low frequencies, so kick drums and bass lines can sound lighter than they do through sealed earbuds.
  • At higher volumes, perceived loudness can increase faster than fullness; voices remain understandable, but music may not gain the same weight.
  • Sound is exposed to the room. Fans, traffic and nearby conversations compete with it, and people around you can hear what is playing.
  • How you hold the Fold can partly obstruct a speaker opening or change the stereo image.

Why Bluetooth earbuds often sound better to one listener

“Better” in a private listening context usually means a more satisfying balance, not a higher volume number. Earbuds sit close to the eardrum and, when their tips seal the ear canal, waste less sound into the room. That arrangement can make bass feel deeper and details easier to follow at a lower phone volume.

Bass and tonal balance

A good seal lets an earbud create low-frequency pressure that an exposed phone speaker cannot easily reproduce. The improvement is not automatic: an earbud that fits loosely can sound thin, while an aggressively boosted model can make vocals muddy. Ear-tip size, nozzle shape and the listener’s ear anatomy matter as much as the earbud’s advertised specification.

Detail and separation

Earbuds can present quiet backing parts, reverb tails and stereo placement more clearly because outside noise is reduced. This is a listening advantage, not proof that every earbud has better hardware. Codec choice, the earbud’s tuning and the recording still determine what you hear.

Privacy and noise

Earbuds keep the program in your ears and let you listen on a train, plane or shared office without disturbing anyone. Passive isolation may be enough for moderate noise; active noise cancellation, if your particular earbuds provide it, can reduce steady background sound. Neither feature makes an earbud universally superior, and safe listening still requires awareness of traffic, alarms and people around you.

Direct comparison: Fold7 speakers or Bluetooth earbuds?

Factor Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers Bluetooth earbuds
Setup Ready as soon as media starts; no pairing or charging accessory required. Requires pairing, charging and a comfortable fit.
Sharing Designed for a nearby group to hear. Primarily one-person listening.
Privacy Anyone nearby can hear the program. Keeps the program personal, subject to sound leakage and safe-volume limits.
Bass TechRadar describes the output as loud and clear but not booming in the bass (review). Can sound deeper when the ear-tip seal and tuning are good; no universal result is established.
Detail in noisy places Room noise competes directly with the speakers. Isolation can make detail easier to hear at lower playback levels.
Comfort No in-ear pressure or battery to manage. Depends on tip, wing and shell design; some listeners dislike prolonged in-ear use.
Battery impact Uses the Fold7’s battery only. Uses the Fold7 and the earbuds’ batteries, with Bluetooth radio active.
Audio processing Dolby Atmos can be selected for supported speaker output. Dolby Atmos and, on compatible Galaxy Buds, 360 Audio options are available; settings do not guarantee superior sound.

The table is a decision guide rather than a laboratory ranking. A well-fitting, well-tuned pair of earbuds will usually win for an individual who values bass, detail and privacy. The Fold7 speakers win when immediacy, comfort and shared playback matter more.

Enable Dolby Atmos for the Fold7 speakers

  1. Open Settings on the Fold7.
  2. Tap Sounds and vibration.
  3. Open Sound quality and effects.
  4. Tap Dolby Atmos and choose the available mode. If the switch is unavailable, start playback and check whether the selected output supports it.

Use the same song with Dolby Atmos on and off at a similar perceived loudness. Atmos is a processing effect: it may make a mix seem wider or more spacious, but it can also sound less natural on some recordings.

Use Galaxy Buds 360 Audio

Samsung says Galaxy Buds2 and newer, when paired with a Galaxy device, use a 360 Audio setting that leverages Dolby Atmos. While compatible Buds are connected, the menu can appear in place of the ordinary Dolby Atmos option (Samsung support explanation). Follow the same Settings → Sounds and vibration → Sound quality and effects path, then select the option shown for your connected Buds.

Samsung’s support wording describes an enhanced audio experience, not a promise that every song or listener will prefer the effect. Some tracks gain an enveloping presentation; others may sound processed. Turn head tracking or similar spatial options off if they make vocals wander or the center image feel unstable.

UHQ audio compatibility

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 product page lists the Galaxy Z Fold7 among devices supporting UHQ audio up to 24-bit/96 kHz with One UI 6.1.1 or later. This is a compatibility statement, not evidence that a listener will hear an improvement. The source file, streaming service, Bluetooth path, earbud hardware and your hearing all affect the result. Do not buy earbuds solely for a high-resolution label.

How to perform a fair Fold7-versus-earbuds test

Your own earbuds and listening habits are more relevant than a generic ranking. Run the comparison with a familiar track that contains vocals, bass and quieter details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Choose one source. Use the same downloaded file or the same stream, with the same quality setting, for both outputs. Avoid comparing a video mixed differently from a music track.
  2. Prepare the earbuds. Charge them, clean the tips and try the size that seals without painful pressure. A poor fit invalidates a bass comparison.
  3. Disable changing variables. Pause equalizers, adaptive sound modes and volume normalization unless you deliberately want to compare those features. Note whether Dolby Atmos or 360 Audio is on.
  4. Match loudness by ear. Start quietly and adjust each output until vocals seem equally loud. Louder playback often sounds “better” even when it is only louder; do not use unsafe volume to force a match.
  5. Listen to short sections. Check a vocal passage, bass entrance, cymbals or strings, and a dense chorus. Write down what you notice before switching back.
  6. Repeat in real locations. Try a quiet room, a normal office and a noisy commute. The speaker’s open sound can be adequate at home but disappear outdoors; isolation can help earbuds in the opposite situation.
  7. Test comfort and awareness. Wear the earbuds for the time you normally listen. If they irritate your ears or prevent you from hearing important surroundings, the theoretical sound advantage is not useful for that situation.

What published reviews do—and do not—show

Fold7 speaker impression

TechRadar’s review calls the Fold7 speakers loud and clear and notes limited bass (TechRadar). Treat this as an attributed listening impression under that reviewer’s conditions. It does not establish a frequency-response measurement, a maximum safe level or a universal score.

Headphone listening impression

What Hi-Fi?’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 review discusses headphone listening through a USB adapter, describing a warm balance and less separation on complex music. It is a wired-headphone observation, not a direct test of the Fold7 against a named Bluetooth earbud. It can help explain why output equipment and connection method matter, but it should not be presented as a Bluetooth result.

What is not established

No source provides a controlled, named-model comparison that measures the Fold7 speakers against Bluetooth earbuds under matched conditions. There is also no owner survey or published statistic quantifying how many listeners prefer one. Any claim that all earbuds beat the Fold7, or that the Fold7 beats all earbuds, goes beyond the available evidence.

Choose by listening situation

Watching videos alone at home

Start with the speakers if you want zero setup and comfortable, non-isolating playback. Switch to earbuds when dialogue competes with a fan or when you want stronger bass and finer detail without raising room volume.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Travel, commuting and public spaces

Earbuds are normally the practical choice because they preserve intelligibility without broadcasting the program. Use a transparent or ambient mode, if available, when you need to hear announcements. Keep volume low enough to remain aware of hazards.

Sharing a song or clip

Use the Fold7 speakers. Passing one earbud back and forth is less hygienic and less convenient, and a single earbud can alter stereo balance. The speakers are intended for nearby listeners even if they cannot reproduce the bass weight of a larger system.

Podcasts, calls and spoken instructions

Speakers avoid ear fatigue and let you move around, while earbuds can improve speech clarity in a noisy environment. Choose whichever lets you understand words at the lowest comfortable level.

Music with substantial bass

Try earbuds first, checking the seal and any equalizer setting. The Fold7 can play the track clearly, but the published speaker impression specifically cautions against expecting booming bass. Do not compensate by pushing the phone to its maximum volume if distortion or harshness appears.

Troubleshooting when one option sounds wrong

Earbuds sound thin or lack bass

  • Reseat both earbuds and try a different tip size; an incomplete seal is the most common cause.
  • Check that the left and right channels are fully connected and that an accessibility balance control is centered.
  • Temporarily disable an equalizer, hearing-adaptation profile or transparency mode to identify processing changes.
  • Compare at a moderate volume. Excessive level can make treble dominate and mask the impression of bass.

The Fold7 speakers are quiet or muffled

  • Remove a case or film that covers a speaker opening and gently clear visible lint with a dry, non-sharp method.
  • Confirm that media volume—not ringtone or notification volume—is being changed.
  • Check the audio-output panel to make sure sound has not been routed to a previously paired Bluetooth device.
  • Play a second app or track. A poorly mixed recording can sound quiet even when the phone is working normally.

Dolby Atmos or 360 Audio does not appear

  • Update the Fold7 and connected earbuds, then reconnect them.
  • Check the output-specific menu while media is playing; Samsung notes that the available control can change when compatible Buds are connected.
  • Verify the feature’s device and software prerequisites. Samsung’s UHQ listing for Buds4 specifies the Fold7 with One UI 6.1.1 or later, but availability can vary by market and software.

Bluetooth playback stutters

  • Keep the phone nearby and remove physical obstructions, especially when the phone is inside a bag or pocket on the opposite side of your body.
  • Pause other Bluetooth accessories temporarily to identify interference or connection switching.
  • Forget and re-pair the earbuds if the problem follows one device; consult the earbud maker’s reset procedure rather than repeatedly changing audio effects.

Privacy, hearing safety and practical trade-offs

Speakers make your listening audible to everyone nearby. That is useful for sharing but inappropriate for confidential calls, explicit content or quiet public areas. Earbuds solve the privacy problem but can make it easier to listen continuously or turn the volume up to overcome isolation.

  • Begin at the lowest level that makes speech clear.
  • Take breaks during long sessions and give your ears time away from continuous sound.
  • Use awareness or transparency modes near roads, platforms and other hazards.
  • Stop and seek professional advice if you notice persistent ringing, pain or muffled hearing.

Verdict: which should you use?

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers when you need immediate playback, hands-free comfort or sound for more than one person. Their documented and reviewed strengths are loudness and clarity, while bass impact is limited.

Choose Bluetooth earbuds for private listening, travel, noisy surroundings, stronger perceived bass or closer access to musical detail. The advantage depends on a proper fit and the earbud’s tuning; it is not guaranteed by Bluetooth, Dolby Atmos or a high-resolution specification alone.

If you are undecided, keep both options. Use the Fold7 speakers as the default for short, shared or spoken-content sessions, and switch to your best-fitting earbuds when the room, privacy or music itself makes personal listening more important.
