“Flipping” can describe several different problems on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: the cover display waking in a pocket, the phone moving an app between the cover and main screens during folding, automatic rotation, or an intermittent display fault. The fix depends on which behavior you are seeing. Start by noting whether it happens in a bag or pocket, during a fold or unfold, after a tap, or while the phone is sitting completely still.
First, match the behavior to the likely problem

These are different symptoms. A setting that stops pocket waking will not repair a display that flickers on a desk, and normal app continuity during folding does not explain random switching while the phone is motionless.
Stop accidental cover-screen waking
Samsung’s general Galaxy troubleshooting identifies two gestures that can wake a phone in a pocket or bag: Lift to wake and Double tap to wake. Turn them off first:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Open Motions and gestures.
- Disable Lift to wake and Double tap to wake.
Samsung notes that labels and availability can differ by software version and model, so use the Settings search field if a label is not in the expected location. Test the phone in the same pocket or bag after changing one group of settings; that makes it clear whether the waking behavior has stopped.

Reduce unintended touches and brief lighting
If the cover display still reacts to contact, try the display safeguards:
- Go to Settings > Display.
- Turn off Touch sensitivity if it is enabled.
- Turn on Accidental touch protection.
Accidental touch protection is not a promise that the screen will remain dark. Samsung cautions that movement or contact can still make the display light briefly. Keep a secure screen lock enabled so a wake does not become unintended access. A compatible flip- or wallet-style case can also reduce contact with the cover screen while the phone is stored. Confirm that any case is specifically fitted for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra; a generic foldable case may interfere with the hinge, cover display, or normal opening.

When the phone is switching between cover and main screens
If “flipping” means that an app appears on the cover display when you close the phone, or moves to the main display when you open it, establish whether the change happens exactly at the fold. Samsung documents the front screen as a usable display and describes app continuity on its foldable phones. The cited US guidance displays Fold6 and Fold7 coverage, not Fold 8 Ultra, so do not assume every menu name or continuity option is verified for your model.

Run a simple check: open one app, close the phone once, then open it again without touching the screen. If the display change occurs only at those transitions, it is a fold-state behavior rather than pocket waking. If it also occurs while the phone is closed and stationary, or while it is open and motionless, treat it as a separate fault and seek model-specific support.

Do not dismiss persistent flicker as ordinary hinge movement
Samsung Korea’s service guidance lists Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra among devices using its Flex hinge and says slight movement may be expected in certain flexed or fully open positions. That information does not establish that repeated screen switching, flickering, or failure to wake is normal. A persistent symptom outside an intentional fold should not be explained away by hinge movement.
Also distinguish the main display from the cover display. Samsung warns that removing or replacing the original foldable main-screen film with a non-original film can create touch problems or damage, and recommends service-center help for replacement. That warning concerns the main display film; it does not prove that a cover-screen protector is causing your symptom. Do not peel off the main-screen film as a troubleshooting experiment.

What to tell Samsung support
Contact Samsung support or an authorized service center if the screen switches, flickers, stays black, or fails to respond while the phone is stationary, or if the settings above do not change pocket waking. Before contacting them, note:
- Whether the affected panel is the cover display or the main display.
- Whether the phone was in a pocket, in a case, being folded, or completely still.
- Whether the image merely wakes, rotates, changes panels, flickers, or loses touch response.
- Whether the issue began after a software update, a screen-film change, a drop, pressure, or liquid exposure.
- Which wake and touch-protection settings you changed and what happened afterward.
This information helps support separate a configurable wake event from an app-continuity transition or a possible display/hinge fault. The general instructions above do not diagnose the exact complaint for every Fold 8 Ultra software build.
