Press the Side key and Volume Down together briefly, then release. The screen should flash when the screenshot is captured. This guide covers the 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab A8 family, including Wi-Fi model SM-X200 and LTE model SM-X205—not older tablets named Galaxy Tab A 8.0.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side key and Volume Down at the same time, then release them promptly. Avoid holding the buttons down; a brief press is enough.
- Look for the screenshot preview and toolbar. Depending on the software, its controls let you edit, crop, share, or capture more of a scrolling page.
Samsung’s SM-X200 manual calls this “Key capture” and documents the Side key and Volume Down combination. Samsung’s instructions note that screens and settings can vary by device, software version, and wireless provider. Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 SM-X200 user manual
Use palm swipe instead
Swipe the edge of your hand left or right across the screen. If the gesture does not work, check Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture and turn it on. Menu wording can differ with software.
Capture a long webpage with scroll capture
Take a screenshot while viewing the page, then tap the scroll-capture control in the screenshot toolbar, commonly shown as downward arrows. Tap it again to capture more as the page scrolls. The option appears when supported for the screen and software version; it may not be available in every app.

Find and use your screenshot
Open Gallery to view screenshots. Samsung’s current support guidance also describes finding them through My Files → Images. When the screenshot toolbar appears, use its available controls to draw, crop, or share the image.
Fix a missing gesture or toolbar
Palm swipe does not capture
Confirm Palm swipe to capture is enabled at Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures. If the setting is absent, the available features may differ on your software version.

The screenshot toolbar is missing
On the SM-X200 manual’s Android 11 software, check Settings → Advanced features → Screenshots and screen recorder → Screenshot toolbar. Labels and availability may differ on other software.
The tablet will not capture the screen
Some apps and features block screenshots for privacy or security. Samsung explains that protected screens may prevent capture, so a blocked screenshot is not necessarily a tablet fault. “Some apps or screens may block screenshots for privacy or security reasons.” Samsung Support: How to take a screenshot on a Samsung phone or tablet

Other capture options
Samsung’s general support instructions also describe voice commands through Bixby or Google Assistant and a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel. Those options depend on the model and software, so they are not guaranteed on every Galaxy Tab A8 setup. For the documented, direct method on the SM-X200, use the Side key and Volume Down; palm swipe is the built-in alternative described in its manual.
