There is no single support end date for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A family. Whether your tablet still receives Android upgrades or security patches depends on its exact model, regional or carrier variant, and Samsung’s current update records. Samsung’s historical policies named several Tab A models, but those announcements do not establish that any of them is still receiving updates in October 2026.
Why the Galaxy Tab A name is not enough
Galaxy Tab A is a product family spanning different models and release years. Tablets in that family can have different software histories, so a general answer about “the Tab A” would be misleading. Find the model number on your tablet and check support for that exact variant and market.
For example, Samsung’s Singapore support page identifies the Galaxy Tab A (8.0) as model SM-T385. The page is useful for identifying the device and finding support material, but its existence does not show that the tablet remains in active software support. Samsung’s SM-T385 support page.
What Samsung’s published policies say—and do not say
In February 2021, Samsung said eligible Galaxy devices launched since 2019 would receive at least four years of security updates. Its named Tab A models were the Tab A 8 (2019), Tab A with S Pen, Tab A 8.4 (2020), and Tab A7. Samsung cautioned that availability varied by device and market and that the eligible list could change. This was a historical commitment; it is not evidence of current patch delivery in 2026. Samsung’s August 2020 announcement described three generations of Android OS upgrades for select devices, with schedules depending on factors such as model, update complexity, and market penetration. In February 2022, it announced up to four generations of Android/One UI upgrades and up to five years of security updates for select devices. The tablet examples in that 2022 announcement were Tab S models, not the Tab A family. Neither announcement establishes a universal upgrade or security-update schedule for every Tab A. Android upgrades and security patches are different
An Android or One UI upgrade changes the operating system version. Security patches address known security issues. Samsung discusses these as separate commitments, so a tablet may stop receiving major version upgrades before security patches stop; the status of one does not establish the status of the other.

Also distinguish a device’s launch software from its current software. Samsung’s 2020 business datasheet lists the Galaxy Tab A7 Wi-Fi, including SM-T500 variants, as shipping with Android 10.0. That is a launch specification, not a statement of the latest version available or currently installed. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A7 datasheet.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow to check whether your tablet still gets updates
- Identify the model number. Open Settings and look under About tablet (the precise label can vary by software version) for the model number. Record the full code, not just “Galaxy Tab A.”
- Note the installed software and patch date. In the tablet’s information or software details, record the Android version and Android security patch level. These tell you what is installed, not necessarily what Samsung still offers.
- Check Samsung’s support information for the exact variant. Search Samsung’s support site for the model number and select the appropriate country or market. A product support page, manual, or help article can confirm the model and provide assistance; it does not by itself prove active update eligibility.
- Check Samsung Mobile Security’s update scope. Look for the exact model in Samsung’s current security-update records for the relevant market. If the model is not listed, or you cannot find a current patch record, the available information does not establish ongoing security updates. Do not infer a precise support end date from a missing listing alone.
- Compare what is offered with what is installed. If Samsung lists an update for your exact model and region, use the tablet’s software-update function to check for it. Availability and timing may differ by model, market, and carrier.
How to decide whether an older Tab A still meets your needs
Assess the specific tablet rather than its family name. Compare its exact model and market variant, installed Android version against the newest version Samsung offers for it, security patch date and current listing status, and whether the apps you rely on still work with its Android version.

An older tablet is not automatically unsafe simply because of its age. But if current records do not establish ongoing patches, avoid relying on it for sensitive accounts or other tasks where unpatched vulnerabilities would matter. It may still suit lower-risk uses, such as offline reading, if its condition and app compatibility are adequate.

Samsung historically included four named Tab A models in its 2021 security-update policy, but that does not answer whether a particular unit is supported today. Because model, market, and current update records matter, the reliable answer comes from checking the full model number and Samsung’s current information for that variant—not from applying a family-wide end date.
