The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s headline display upgrade is Privacy Display, a built-in feature that narrows what people beside you can see. The catch is that it can affect how the screen looks, and it is not a guarantee that sensitive information will stay hidden. Samsung includes the feature on the Ultra, not the base S26 or S26+.
What Privacy Display does
Samsung describes Privacy Display as a screen feature that controls the viewing angle to limit peripheral vision. It is designed for situations where someone nearby might otherwise see your screen, such as on public transport or a flight.
You can turn it on from the Quick Panel, assign it to a double press of the Side button, or customize it to apply to selected apps and credential entry. Samsung also offers partial privacy for notification pop-ups, rather than applying the effect to the entire screen.

- Quick toggle: Open the Quick Panel and switch Privacy Display on or off.
- Shortcut: Assign Privacy Display to a double press of the Side button for faster access.
- Selected content: Configure full-screen privacy for chosen apps or when entering a PIN, password, or pattern.
- Notifications: Use partial privacy for notification pop-ups if you want to limit their visibility without applying the effect across the whole screen.
The display-quality trade-off
Samsung cautions that image quality may change outside the viewing angle. Its product page also warns: “Some information may still be visible to others depending on the viewing environment, such as angle or brightness. Caution is advised when exposing sensitive information.” Treat Privacy Display as a way to reduce casual side viewing, not as protection for highly sensitive material.
Android Authority reviewer Brady Snyder says that in side-by-side use of the Galaxy S26 and S26 Ultra, the Ultra’s Flex Magic Pixel OLED panel had worse off-angle brightness and overall sharpness than traditional OLED. He also reports that the regular S26 was often brighter, even with Privacy Display disabled. These are his qualitative observations, not controlled, universal measurements.

Samsung lists a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and 2600 nits peak brightness for the S26 Ultra. Peak brightness is a specification, not a direct comparison of perceived brightness or sharpness at an angle, so it does not settle Snyder’s off-angle observation.

How it compares with a privacy screen protector
The built-in feature’s main convenience is that it can be toggled and configured for selected content. Snyder says he used it on public transit, flights, and at sporting events, and valued being able to turn it off with a button press. That is his reported experience, not a guarantee that the feature suits every setting.

A physical privacy screen protector is another approach, but the available sources do not test a specific protector or establish measured superiority. If comparing the two, consider whether you want privacy controls that can be switched on and off, how the screen looks from an angle, and whether you are willing to use a physical accessory. Avoid assuming either option makes information impossible to see.

Privacy Display is most compelling if you often use your phone around other people and expect to selectively limit side viewing. The trade-off matters if off-angle brightness and sharpness are priorities, or if you expect a privacy feature to conceal sensitive details reliably.

The Ultra also has a large form factor: Samsung lists it at 6.9 inches, 7.9 mm thick, and 214 g. The same page lists the S26+ at 6.7 inches and the base S26 at 6.3 inches. Snyder compared the Ultra with the base S26, but his report is not a lab-grade display measurement. When comparing phones, consider the screen with Privacy Display both on and off, whether per-app and notification controls matter to you, and whether the Ultra’s size and weight suit your use.
