On a Galaxy S26 Ultra, the most reliable way to improve battery life is to first inspect Settings > Battery, then adjust the settings responsible for your actual drain. The highest-impact controls are Power saving, display demand, selective background restrictions, and app notification categories. Each has a cost: sleeping an app can delay notifications, reducing display capability changes how the phone looks, and Power saving can limit background activity or other features.
Samsung and Android provide practical recommendations, but they do not publish an S26 Ultra test showing a fixed percentage or number of extra hours for any individual setting. Treat the steps below as targeted tuning rather than a promise of a specific runtime increase.
Start with Battery usage, not a blanket cleanup
Before changing several options at once, identify what is consuming power on your phone. Open Settings > Battery and review the usage chart and app list. Menu names can vary slightly between One UI releases, so use the Battery search result if your layout differs.

A navigation app used for a long trip, a game, or a video call can legitimately appear near the top. An app that remains active when you rarely open it is a better candidate for restriction. Record the top few consumers first; changing one class of setting at a time makes it possible to tell which adjustment helped and which caused an unwanted side effect.

- Check whether the drain is mostly screen, mobile network, or individual apps.
- Consider recent events such as poor reception, extended camera use, hotspot use, gaming, or a large download before labeling normal activity as a fault.
- After making a change, revisit Battery usage later rather than expecting an immediate, precisely measurable result.
Use Power saving when runtime matters more than unrestricted background activity
Power saving is the quickest built-in response when you need the phone to last longer before the next charge. Open Settings > Battery > Power saving (the label may appear directly under Battery) and review the available switches before enabling it. Samsung describes Power saving as customizable, and a carrier guide for the S26 Ultra running Android 16 presents it as a way to reduce consumption.
Do not treat Power saving as a free performance gain. Depending on the One UI version and the options you select, it can limit background activity, reduce performance, restrict location behavior, or change display behavior. Those limits can postpone synchronization or make an app less timely. If you need an immediate extension for a flight, commute, or long event, enable it temporarily and restore your normal profile afterward.
When to leave Power saving off
Leave it off during tasks that depend on uninterrupted background work, such as live navigation, time-sensitive work messaging, a hotspot session, or an upload that must finish. Instead, target the app or display setting responsible for the drain. If a setting inside Power saving is individually selectable, enable only the restrictions you can tolerate.
Reduce display demand without sacrificing more quality than you need
The screen can be a major consumer because it is active whenever you are reading, scrolling, watching video, or using the camera. Samsung’s Galaxy guidance and Google’s Android battery guidance both point to display controls. Change them in Settings > Display; exact labels can differ by software version.
Brightness
Lower brightness manually when you are indoors, or leave adaptive brightness enabled and correct it when it is unnecessarily high. A small reduction is often less noticeable than a permanently dim screen, so choose the lowest level that remains comfortable in your lighting. Android’s general guidance specifically recommends reducing screen brightness.

Screen timeout
Set Screen timeout to the shortest period that fits your reading and work habits. A long timeout keeps the display lit after you put the phone down; an overly short one can interrupt recipes, presentations, or accessibility use. If you frequently leave the phone unattended, reducing the timeout removes that avoidable on-screen time.
Resolution and motion settings
Samsung lists screen resolution among the display choices worth reviewing. If your S26 Ultra offers a lower-resolution option, it can reduce rendering demand, but text and images may look less crisp. Try the lower setting for a day before deciding. Do not change it merely because it exists if you value maximum detail and your Battery screen shows that the display is not your main consumer.
Wallpaper
Live or animated wallpapers can use more battery than a static image. Samsung also notes that dark wallpapers may help on AMOLED displays, where black pixels can require less power. Use a static, darker wallpaper if you like the appearance; the visual difference and any saving depend on how much of the screen is dark and how often you use the phone.
Stop selected apps from running in the background
Samsung provides Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps to limit background battery use. These are not equivalent to uninstalling an app: they change when it is allowed to run without your direct interaction.
Add an app to Sleeping apps
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Open Background usage limits (or the similarly named app-management section).
- Choose Sleeping apps, tap Add, and select apps that do not need frequent background activity.
A sleeping app may run occasionally, so it is a moderate choice for services you use but do not need to update continuously.

Use Deep sleeping apps only for nonessential services
- From Settings > Battery > Background usage limits, open Deep sleeping apps.
- Add apps that should run only when you open them.
- Open each app normally when you need current content, then remove it from the list if timely background work becomes important.
Samsung’s application-management documentation warns that sleeping apps cannot perform activities such as notifications or updates while restricted. Keep messaging, security, authentication, travel, health-monitoring, and work-critical apps unrestricted unless you have tested the consequences. A delayed news alert is inconvenient; a delayed two-factor code, ride update, security warning, or work message can be consequential.
Choose restrictions by consequence

How to turn off unwanted app notifications
Notification control reduces interruptions without necessarily restricting an app’s battery activity. On Galaxy phones, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, select an app, and disable notifications you do not want. You can also reach an app’s notification settings by touching and holding one of its notifications and tapping Settings.
Use notification categories when an app provides them
Some apps expose separate categories, such as promotions, recommendations, live events, direct messages, or service alerts. Turn off only the categories that create noise and keep those that carry useful information. Galaxy S26 coverage notes that category controls may need to be enabled or revealed in the notification settings; the exact controls vary by app, and some apps offer only a single on/off switch.
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the noisy app.
- Review each listed category and switch off nonessential categories.
- Leave security, account, delivery, calendar, and direct-message categories on when you rely on them.
If no categories appear, update the app if an update is available and check the app’s own settings. Do not assume every app supports the same granularity. Notification suppression is separate from Sleeping apps: you can silence promotional alerts while still allowing the app to update in the background, or you can restrict background activity and risk delaying all alerts.
Understand what Battery protection can—and cannot—do
Battery protection is about long-term battery care, not a guaranteed increase in the time between today’s charges. Samsung support states: “Charging your battery to 100% for a long period can reduce its lifespan.” Open Settings > Battery > Battery protection and review the modes available on your One UI version. Depending on the software, you may be able to limit charging, pause charging at a selected level, or use an adaptive schedule.

Choose a protection mode based on how you use the phone. If you regularly leave it plugged in overnight or at a desk, a mode that avoids holding the battery at full charge for long periods may support capacity retention over time. If you need maximum capacity for a long day, a mode that permits a full charge may be more practical. The setting does not establish a measured, immediate runtime gain, and it should not be presented as one.
Turn off radios only when your situation makes it worthwhile
Samsung lists Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, and location as connections you can turn off when unused. These are situational choices, not mandatory battery rules.
- Wi‑Fi: Turning it off can help when you are away from Wi‑Fi for an extended period, but leaving it on is sensible if you move between known networks or use Wi‑Fi calling.
- Bluetooth: Disable it when you are not using earbuds, a watch, a car system, or another accessory. Keep it on if reconnecting manually would be more disruptive than the potential saving.
- Location: Review which apps have location access in Settings > Location > App permissions. Restrict background location for apps that do not need it, while preserving precise or continuous access for navigation, safety, and tracking services you actively use.
Weak cellular reception can consume more power as the phone searches for or maintains a signal. In a basement, aircraft, or other place where you cannot connect, Airplane mode may be appropriate, but it also disables calls and data until you turn connections back on.

- If you need extra runtime immediately, enable Power saving and inspect its individual restrictions.
- Set a comfortable brightness, shorten Screen timeout, and test a static wallpaper. Change resolution only if you accept the visual tradeoff.
- Move low-priority apps to Sleeping apps. Use Deep sleeping only for apps whose delayed notifications and updates are acceptable.
- Trim notification categories for noisy apps instead of silencing every alert globally.
- Review Battery protection if the phone spends long periods connected to a charger.
- Turn off Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or location only when you are genuinely not using them.
- Check Battery usage again after ordinary use. If an important alert is late or an app stops updating, undo the restriction for that app first.
Fix common side effects
Notifications arrive late
Remove the app from Deep sleeping and Sleeping apps, then check its notification categories and battery settings. Messaging, authentication, travel, and work apps should generally remain unrestricted.

An app’s content is stale until you open it
That behavior is expected when background activity is restricted. Remove the app from the sleep list or allow its background data in the app’s battery settings. Recheck after the next synchronization cycle.
The phone still drains quickly
Return to Battery usage instead of adding more restrictions blindly. Look for sustained high screen time, poor cellular signal, hotspot use, navigation, camera recording, or one misbehaving app. Install pending system and app updates, restart the phone, and observe the Battery screen again. If an app remains abnormally high when unused, restrict or uninstall it only after confirming that it is not needed for security, communication, or work.
The display looks worse after a change
Restore the previous resolution, brightness, or wallpaper. Battery tuning is successful only if the tradeoff fits your habits; an uncomfortable screen encourages compensating behavior such as keeping the display on longer.

These controls let you align the S26 Ultra with your priorities: maximum availability, lower background activity, fewer interruptions, or better long-term battery care. Samsung and Android guidance is qualitative, and no cited source supplies a model-specific percentage or extra-hours result for an individual switch. Measure success by your own Battery usage pattern and by whether essential notifications, updates, and display quality still meet your needs.
