Four Galaxy S26 camera controls are worth checking: Horizontal lock for level video, Photo enhancer and Scene optimizer for processing, Motion photos for capturing action just before the shutter, and Shooting methods for easier shutter control. They are useful options, not an official Samsung list of four new upgrades; menus and availability can vary by mode and software.
1. Keep the horizon level with Horizontal lock
For moving video, Horizontal lock is a Super steady option that helps keep the horizon level. Samsung says it uses the phone’s gyroscope and accelerometer to stabilize framing. It is a video control rather than a general camera setting.
- Open Camera and switch to Video.
- Tap Super steady.
- Choose Horizontal lock.
Samsung’s US support information says Horizontal lock is unavailable with the front-facing camera, Pro Video, and Portrait Video. See Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera feature guide and its explanation of video stabilization for the documented behavior. If the option does not appear, check that you are using the rear camera in a supported video mode.

2. Choose how the camera processes photos
Photo enhancer and Scene optimizer affect photo processing, but they serve different purposes. Samsung describes Photo enhancer as offering a quality-versus-speed optimization choice in Photo mode. Scene optimizer can adjust exposure, contrast, white balance, and other aspects based on the scene. These descriptions do not guarantee a visible improvement in every photo.

Photo enhancer
Open Camera settings and look for Photo enhancer. The control is intended for Photo mode, so it may not be available in other modes. Choose the processing priority that suits how you shoot.
Scene optimizer
Find Scene optimizer in Camera settings. Samsung says it analyzes the scene and adjusts image characteristics accordingly. It is rear-camera-only, so do not expect the control to work for selfies. Settings can also differ by camera mode; Samsung’s camera feature guide describes the available controls.

3. Use Motion photos for fleeting action
Motion photos records a short clip of action immediately before you press the shutter. It can help when the moment you want happens just before the still photo, such as a child’s expression changing or a pet moving. Samsung lists Motion photos among the camera’s Quick controls; availability depends on the mode.
- Open Camera in a mode that supports Motion photos.
- Open Quick controls and tap Motion photos to turn it on.
- Take the photo as usual.
Check the Quick controls in your current mode if the toggle is missing. The feature and its location are documented in Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide.

4. Make the shutter easier to reach or trigger
Shooting methods lets you change how the shutter is activated. Samsung lists the volume buttons, voice commands, a Floating Shutter button, and Show palm for selfies under Quick controls and camera settings.
- Open Camera and tap Quick controls.
- Tap Settings, then Shooting methods.
- Choose the shutter method you want, such as voice commands or Show palm for selfies.
The Floating Shutter button can be positioned on the screen, which may help when the standard shutter button is awkward to reach. Show palm triggers a selfie. If you set the volume buttons to capture photos, they cannot adjust sound during video recording. See Samsung’s instructions for camera shooting methods for the listed controls.

Why a camera option may be missing
Camera controls are not necessarily available in every mode, and the menu path can vary with region and software version. First check that you are using the mode and camera specified for the feature—for example, Horizontal lock requires a supported rear-camera video mode, while Scene optimizer is rear-camera-only.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSamsung Australia also documents an additional Camera Assistant route for Night, Single Take, and Dual Rec: open Camera settings, select Camera Assistant, install it, toggle the desired modes, then return to Camera > MORE. That guide is explicitly for Australian Galaxy variants, so its availability and exact route should not be assumed in other regions. Consult Samsung Australia’s Camera Assistant instructions and check your local Camera settings.

Samsung’s February 25, 2026 announcement discusses the S26 series camera system, enhanced Nightography Video, Horizontal lock, and APV video support on the S26 Ultra. That broader announcement is separate from these four selected settings; it does not define them as an official four-upgrade set. Samsung’s announcement provides that launch context.
