The Galaxy S25+ is the larger phone and has a dedicated 3× optical telephoto camera; the iPhone 17 is smaller and starts with 256GB of storage. Which is the better fit depends most on screen size, camera reach, operating system and the price available where you live—not on a proven performance or battery-life winner.

Specifications and price examples come from different sources and markets, so they are not all like-for-like. The price comparison below explains what can—and cannot—be inferred from them.

How different are the screen and size?

Samsung lists a 6.7-inch display with 3120 × 1440 resolution for the S25+. Apple lists the iPhone 17 display at 6.3 inches. The larger S25+ gives you more screen area; the smaller iPhone 17 is the more compact choice for someone who prefers a handset that is easier to manage one-handed.

AT&T’s dimensions show the practical difference: the S25+ measures 6.23 × 2.98 × 0.28 inches, while the iPhone 17 measures 5.89 × 2.81 × 0.31 inches. AT&T also describes the iPhone 17 as lighter in its comparison. These figures help distinguish the phones’ size, but display size alone does not establish which screen looks better overall.

What is the camera difference?

The S25+ has three listed rear cameras: a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. AT&T identifies the telephoto as 3× optical zoom. That dedicated lens makes the Samsung the clearer hardware choice if you specifically want 3× optical telephoto reach.

The iPhone 17 has a 48MP main camera with optical-quality 2× Telephoto and a 48MP ultra-wide camera, according to Apple. Its listed setup provides a different balance, with a higher-resolution ultra-wide sensor and 2× telephoto framing rather than a dedicated 3× telephoto lens.

Which phone is faster, and which lasts longer?

The S25+ uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy; the iPhone 17 uses Apple’s A19. The cited sources contain no matched benchmark, so the processor names alone do not support declaring a performance winner.

Samsung lists a 4,900mAh battery for the S25+ and makes a playback claim on its New Zealand product page. Apple describes iPhone 17 battery life as “all-day” but does not provide a directly comparable capacity or duration figure in the cited launch information. Battery capacity and a general-use claim are different measures; they do not establish which phone lasts longer in comparable use.

What is the price difference?

AT&T lists US retail starting prices of $999.99 for the Galaxy S25+ and $829.99 for the iPhone 17—a $170 difference, with the iPhone listed lower. These are AT&T carrier listing figures, not a universal current price gap or a matched comparison of manufacturer launch prices. Carrier offers may depend on eligibility and installment terms, and the price you pay can vary with trade-in credits, storage, seller and market.

Apple’s US launch announcement set the iPhone 17 starting price at $799 for 256GB. Samsung’s New Zealand specifications page lists the S25+ at NZ$1,999 for 256GB and NZ$2,259 for 512GB. Those figures use different currencies, regions and pricing contexts; they should not be compared directly to calculate a US price difference. A like-for-like US launch MSRP comparison is not established by these figures.
