The Galaxy S24 is the simpler choice if you want a conventional, pocketable phone; the Galaxy Z Fold8 is for people who will use its larger unfolding screen enough to justify a different form factor. Samsung’s published specifications show clear differences in screen layout and camera hardware, but they do not establish a current price gap: that depends on country, storage, retailer and purchase terms.
What is the main difference between the Galaxy S24 and Z Fold8?
The S24 is a conventional smartphone with one 6.2-inch display. The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover screen for use while closed and a 7.6-inch main screen when unfolded. These are diagonal measurements across the full rectangles; rounded corners and camera openings reduce the usable display area.
That distinction matters more than a spec-sheet win. Choose the S24 if you prefer a straightforward handset for everyday phone use. Choose the Fold8 if switching between a phone-sized cover screen and a much larger display suits how you read, watch or work. Samsung positions the Fold8’s shorter, wider design as intended for media and more comfortable one-handed use; that is Samsung’s product positioning, not an independent comfort assessment.

Samsung’s Spain business listing specifies the S24 variant with 256 GB storage. Samsung’s Saudi Arabia listing gives Fold8 storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. These are regional listings, not a like-for-like regional price comparison; exact specifications and cellular band support can vary by market and model.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
Do the camera numbers mean one takes better photos?
No. The published figures describe camera hardware, not comparative image quality. Samsung lists three S24 rear-camera resolutions (50 MP, 10 MP and 12 MP), while its Fold8 announcement identifies 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultra-wide cameras. Those numbers alone do not show which phone produces better photos, and no controlled head-to-head camera test is established here.
Which battery lasts longer?
The listed typical capacities are 4,000 mAh for the S24 and 4,800 mAh for the Fold8. Capacity is not the same as runtime, so these figures do not establish which lasts longer in everyday use.
Rank #2
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
Samsung advertises up to 26 hours of Fold8 video playback, based on an internal lab test with a pre-release device, Bluetooth earphones, LTE, default settings and a locally stored 720p file. Samsung says actual playback varies with conditions. Treat that as a manufacturer estimate under stated test conditions, not a directly comparable real-world battery test against the S24.
What is the price difference?
There is no reliable single price difference without choosing a market, storage tier, retailer and date. Samsung’s cited sources do not establish a current, like-for-like S24 and Fold8 price pair. The S24 and Fold8 regional listings also differ in market and storage context, so their prices should not be compared as if they were equivalent offers.
Rank #3
- Width: 2.78 inches; Length: 5.79 inches; Height: 0.30 inches
For a meaningful comparison, check both phones in the same country and match storage capacity. Record whether each price is for a new unlocked phone or a carrier offer, and account for trade-in credits separately from the cash price. Include the date because retail prices and promotions change. Samsung’s US Fold8 launch announcement described limited preorder offers, including up to $1,200 in eligible trade-in savings and up to $200 credit without trade-in; those were historical, conditional launch offers, not a current price gap or guaranteed discount.
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S24 if you want a conventional phone with one display and the published compact dimensions and 167 g weight suit your priorities.
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if the option to unfold to a 7.6-inch screen is central to how you plan to use the phone, and you are comfortable checking the local price and terms for your preferred storage configuration.
- Wait to compare prices if your decision depends on the premium: compare dated, same-market offers with matching storage and clearly separate trade-in value from the amount you pay.
Availability and source details
Samsung said general availability for the Fold8 began August 7, 2026 in the United States. Availability and pricing elsewhere can differ. For exact local specifications, check the model and market listing before buying.
