The Galaxy S23 and iPhone 15 were nearly tied at their US launch prices for 128GB, but they suit different buyers. Choose the S23 for its adaptive 120Hz display and dedicated 3x telephoto camera; choose the iPhone 15 if you prefer iOS, Apple’s Dynamic Island, or a listed 512GB capacity. Current local prices and stock vary, so the 2023 launch figures below are historical context, not today’s quote.

Which phone has the better display?
The S23’s adaptive 48–120Hz refresh rate is its clearest display advantage: scrolling and supported animations can look smoother than on a 60Hz screen. Apple specifies the iPhone 15’s higher pixel count and 2,000-nit outdoor peak brightness. Those figures describe different strengths; they do not by themselves establish which display looks better to every person.

How do their cameras differ?
Galaxy S23: a separate 3x telephoto camera
The S23 has a dedicated 10MP 3x telephoto camera alongside its main and ultra-wide cameras. That gives it a separate optical camera for reaching distant subjects at 3x.
iPhone 15: a sensor-based 2x option
The iPhone 15 has a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide, with a 2x telephoto option enabled by the main sensor. It does not have a separate telephoto lens. Apple describes the main camera’s 24MP default as part of its computational-photography features; that is a vendor specification, not an independent image-quality verdict.
Rank #3
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Neither megapixel count nor lens count alone predicts the photos a particular person will prefer. The practical hardware distinction is a dedicated 3x camera on the S23 versus Apple’s sensor-based 2x option and camera processing on the iPhone.
Which phone is faster?
The S23 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, while the iPhone 15 uses Apple’s A16 Bionic. TechRadar reports the iPhone winning most benchmarks in its comparison; that is the publication’s assessment, not a guarantee that every task will feel faster. The phones also run different operating systems, so benchmark results do not capture app preferences, services, or ecosystem fit.
Rank #4
- It offers a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 48-120 Hz refresh rate plus up to ~ 1750 nits peak brightness and “Vision Booster,” meaning the screen stays bright and viewable even in strong sunlight — great if you use your phone outdoors a lot.
TechRadar lists 8GB of RAM for the S23 and 6GB for the iPhone 15. RAM figures are not a standalone performance ranking because Android and iOS manage memory differently.
Charging and accessories: what comes in the box?
Both phones use USB-C for wired charging. Apple says the iPhone 15 ships with a USB-C cable, but not a power adapter or EarPods. Apple’s fast-charge claim is about 50% in around 30 minutes when using a 20W-or-higher adapter; that is the stated charging condition, not a promise for every charger or use case.
Best Value
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
For the S23, Samsung says a 5A cable is needed for 25W and 45W charging, and that the base S23 does not support 45W charging by default. Do not confuse charger wattage listed for the S23 series with the base model’s charging capability. Check the exact adapter and cable requirements for the phone and accessory you have.
Samsung also states that the S23 series does not support an SD card; S Pen support mentioned in its guidance applies to the S23 Ultra, not the base S23. The iPhone supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W.
Which one should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S23 if
- You want Android with Samsung’s One UI.
- You value an adaptive 120Hz display.
- You want a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera.
Choose the iPhone 15 if
- You prefer iOS or already rely on Apple services and devices.
- You want Dynamic Island or Apple’s camera features.
- You need a 512GB capacity listed for the iPhone 15.
- Satellite-related safety features matter to you and are available in your region and through your carrier.
Apple’s regional and carrier specifications can differ. Before buying either older model, verify the exact device variant, storage, local network compatibility, warranty, and current offer. Make sure a listing is for the base Galaxy S23, not the S23+ or S23 Ultra.
