The Galaxy S26 is the newer phone, with a larger display, 12GB of RAM, a newer market-dependent processor and a higher-capacity battery. The Galaxy S23 5G is smaller, nearly the same weight and has the same headline rear-camera resolutions. For US buyers, the dated 256GB unlocked MSRPs differ by $40, but those prices come from lists published nearly two years apart—not a current price comparison.

Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S26: specifications

The S26 is taller and wider, but thinner; Samsung lists its weight at 167g, one gram less than the S23 comparison listing. Both phones have the same stated screen resolution and the same three rear-camera resolution figures. The differences are more meaningful in display size, memory, processor options and battery capacity.

What changes in the display, size and performance?

Display: bigger S26, denser S23

The S26’s listed screen is 6.3 inches measured as a full rectangle. Samsung’s rounded-corner convention gives a 6.1-inch viewable size. Both phones are listed at 1080 × 2340 pixels, so the smaller S23 panel has the higher comparison-listed pixel density: 422 ppi versus 409 ppi. The S26 also specifies an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate.

  • Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.

Size and handling

The S23 is the more compact option at 146.3 × 70.9mm. The S26 measures 149.6 × 71.7mm and is 0.4mm thinner. Their listed weights—168g and 167g—are effectively alike. If one-handed reach or a smaller pocket footprint matters, the S23’s smaller body is the practical distinction.

Processor and memory

The comparison lists the S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8GB RAM. Samsung lists the S26 with 12GB RAM and either Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy or Exynos 2600, depending on the device and market. Check the processor for the exact regional model; there is no single global S26 chipset to assume.

Are the S26 cameras better?

The listed rear-camera resolutions do not show a wholesale hardware change: both phones are specified with 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto cameras. Samsung describes the S26 main camera as offering 2× optical-quality zoom through Adaptive Pixel sensor processing, while its 10MP telephoto provides 3× optical zoom. These terms describe different zoom methods; 2× optical-quality zoom is not a separate optical telephoto lens step.

Megapixel counts and lens specifications alone cannot establish which phone takes better photos. No matched camera test is available here, so claims about image quality, low-light results or video superiority would go beyond the evidence.

Battery capacity and charging

The S26’s 4,300mAh typical capacity is higher than the S23’s comparison-listed 3,900mAh. Samsung also gives the S26 a 4,175mAh rated minimum. Capacity is not a battery-life test: actual endurance depends on factors including network conditions and use, so these figures do not establish how many extra hours the S26 lasts.

Both phones are listed with 25W wired charging. The S23 comparison lists 15W wireless charging. Samsung says the S26 can reach up to 55% in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter in its lab conditions; actual charge times vary. Samsung notes that the adapter and cable are sold separately. The S26 also lists fast wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare.

Which phone should you choose?

  • Choose the S26 if you want the newer generation, a larger display, 12GB RAM, the newer market-specific processor options, or its higher stated battery capacity—and the local price works for you.
  • Choose the S23 if you prefer a smaller phone and find it at a compelling current price. Its listed rear-camera resolutions match the S26’s, although that does not guarantee identical photo results.
  • Compare actual offers before upgrading if price is the deciding factor. The historical $40 MSRP difference does not reveal today’s price difference, and the storage configurations listed for the phones do not fully overlap.

Update-support terms and warranty differences are not established by the cited specifications and price lists, so check Samsung’s current terms for the exact model and country if those factors affect your decision.
