The Galaxy S25 has a slightly larger display and a 100mAh higher typical battery capacity than the Galaxy S23 5G, while Samsung lists the same headline rear-camera resolutions for both. Samsung US listed the unlocked S25 at $799.99 for 128GB and $899.99 for 256GB when its page was accessed on October 7, 2026. A current like-for-like S23 price was not established, so there is no reliable current dollar difference to quote.
Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S25 specs
These are both compact base-model phones. Samsung’s published diagonal measurements make the S25 just 0.1 inch larger, and its typical battery capacity is 100mAh higher. Those specification differences do not, by themselves, establish a meaningful change in battery life or overall experience.
| Specification | Galaxy S23 5G | Galaxy S25 |
|---|---|---|
| Display diagonal | 6.1 inches | 6.2 inches |
| Typical battery capacity | 3,900mAh | 4,000mAh |
| Rated minimum battery capacity | 3,785mAh | 3,885mAh |
| Rear camera resolutions | 50MP main, 10MP telephoto, 12MP ultrawide | 50MP wide, 10MP telephoto, 12MP ultrawide |
| Wired charging | 25W, according to a Samsung US carrier specification sheet | 25W; Samsung says up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 25W adapter and 3A USB-C cable |
Samsung’s display measurements are diagonal full-rectangle figures; the viewable area is smaller because of rounded corners. S23 specifications here include Samsung Japan product specifications and a Samsung US carrier sheet, so regional radio bands and service details may vary. What changes in everyday use?
Screen size: a small difference
The S25’s 6.2-inch display is only 0.1 inch larger than the S23’s 6.1-inch display by Samsung’s diagonal measurements. If a compact phone is your priority, these specifications point to broadly similar-sized base models rather than a major size change.

Battery: more capacity, not proven endurance
Samsung lists typical capacities of 4,000mAh for the S25 and 3,900mAh for the S23. Its launch materials give rated minimum capacities of 3,885mAh and 3,785mAh, respectively. Typical and rated minimum figures are different measures; neither comparison establishes how long either phone will last in your routine. Battery health on an older S23 can also affect the comparison.
Cameras: same headline resolutions, no quality verdict
Samsung lists 50MP, 10MP and 12MP rear cameras for each phone. The S25 specifications identify 3x optical zoom on its telephoto camera. Matching resolution figures do not prove equal image quality: software, image processing and real-world comparisons matter too. The available specifications alone do not establish that one takes better photos.

Charging: match the setup before comparing
Samsung’s US carrier sheet specifies 25W wired charging for the S23. For the S25, Samsung Mobile Press says charging can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes when using a 25W adapter and 3A USB-C cable under its stated conditions. That is not a matched test of both phones, so it should not be read as a comparative charging-time result. Samsung US says the S25 box does not include a charger; if you need one, check that a 25W USB-C adapter and cable are compatible with your setup.

A definitive current S23-versus-S25 price difference cannot be calculated from those figures because no comparable current S23 selling price was established. The S23’s original launch price would not answer what it costs now. For a useful comparison, look at live offers for the same storage capacity, unlocked or carrier-locked status, condition, and warranty or return terms. Include shipping, tax, trade-in conditions and any carrier obligations in the total.

Consider the S25 if its features justify the cost
The S25 offers the modest screen and typical-capacity increases listed above. Those differences may matter to you, but specifications here do not establish tested performance, longer endurance, or camera superiority. Base your decision on the features you need, the price of an equivalent-storage S25 offer, and the condition and battery health of your current phone.

Keep or buy an S23 if the price and condition make sense
If an S23 is substantially cheaper in your market and is in good condition, its lower cost may outweigh the relatively small listed screen and battery-capacity differences. Treat that as a value judgment for a specific offer, not a general claim about today’s S23 price. Check storage, carrier lock, battery health, warranty and return terms before comparing it with a new S25.
Quick Recap
Use a like-for-like price check
- Compare the same storage capacity, or account for the difference.
- Compare new with new, or used/refurbished devices in equivalent condition.
- Check whether each phone is unlocked or tied to a carrier.
- Calculate the total after tax, shipping, trade-in requirements and carrier obligations.
- Review warranty and return terms, as well as the S23’s observed battery health.
