No—the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its IP68 rating is based on a controlled test in still freshwater: up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes. Samsung says beach or pool use is not advised, and the rating does not promise protection from every kind of water exposure.
What the S22 Ultra’s IP68 rating means
Samsung lists the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its S Pen as IP68 rated. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.’s 2022 Galaxy S22 series specification sheet describes the test as submersion in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung’s current support guidance likewise identifies still freshwater and says the test follows IEC 60529 requirements.
Those figures describe laboratory test conditions, not a guarantee that every phone will survive any immersion within those limits. The test does not establish protection during swimming, underwater photography, or exposure to water moving at pressure. Samsung’s specification sheet explicitly says beach or pool use is not advised. Samsung Canada’s water-resistance guidance and Samsung Gulf’s S22-specific guidance explain the limits and care instructions.
Can you take the Galaxy S22 Ultra into a pool or the sea?
Samsung advises against using the S22 Ultra at the beach or in a pool. Saltwater and pool water are not the still freshwater used for the IP68 test; pool chemicals and salt can also expose the phone to conditions beyond that rating. Do not treat IP68 as permission to swim with the phone or take it underwater for photos.

The same caution applies to other liquids. Samsung advises avoiding soapy water, oils, perfume, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, cosmetics, and alcohol-containing liquids. It also warns against high-pressure water, steam rooms and saunas, abnormal temperatures, and high humidity.
Why water resistance can fail
Water resistance is not permanent. Samsung says normal wear and tear can weaken it over time. A drop, impact, or other damage can also reduce protection, even if the phone looks intact. The SIM tray must be fully reinserted with no gaps; an improperly seated tray can compromise the device’s protection.

Because a phone’s condition and exposure vary, the IP68 rating cannot tell you whether a particular S22 Ultra remains sealed or will withstand a particular incident. If it has been damaged or you are concerned after liquid exposure, contact Samsung-authorized service in your region.
What to do if your S22 Ultra gets wet
- Dry the phone’s exterior. Use a soft, clean cloth and dry it thoroughly.
- Keep the charging port disconnected. Do not connect a charger or accessory until the phone and external connection jack are completely dry. Charging while the USB port is wet may damage the device.
- If it contacted saltwater, pool water, or another listed liquid, rinse with fresh water. Samsung’s S22 support guidance recommends rinsing after exposure to saltwater, pool water, soap, oil, perfume, sunscreen, or chemicals, then drying the phone thoroughly.
- Allow wet audio openings to dry. Moisture in the speaker, microphone, or receiver can temporarily muffle sound or affect calls.
- Get help if damage or problems persist. If the phone was impacted, shows signs of damage, or continues to have trouble after drying, seek Samsung-authorized service.
Do not use a hair dryer, external heat, compressed air, or chemicals to dry or clean the phone; Samsung Electronics Service warns these methods can cause damage. Samsung’s S22 water and dust resistance instructions cover rinsing and drying, while its Korean Samsung Electronics Service guidance addresses handling and cleaning cautions.

Using the phone around water
If you expect exposure beyond ordinary splashes—for example, at a pool or beach—do not rely on the phone’s built-in rating as protection. A model-specific waterproof case may be an option, but a case’s own limits matter, and it does not make the phone safe at every depth or under every condition. Samsung’s advice remains not to use the S22 Ultra at the beach or pool.
