The Galaxy S21 FE is the better fit if you want a more compact phone, a dedicated telephoto camera, wireless charging or an IP68 rating. The newer Galaxy A56 suits buyers who prefer a larger display, a higher listed battery capacity, faster wired charging and Samsung’s newer software-support commitment. There is no reliable single price difference without a country, date, seller and matching storage configurations.

Samsung measures display size diagonally, and rounded corners reduce the viewable area. Specifications and availability can vary by market or carrier. The S21 FE’s processor is market-dependent; Samsung identified the India launch model as Exynos 2100, so check the exact regional variant before comparing performance.

Which phone is easier to carry and better for viewing?

Galaxy S21 FE: smaller and lighter

At 177 g and 6.4 inches, the S21 FE is the more compact option. It is 21 g lighter and has a narrower, shorter body than the A56, based on Samsung’s listed dimensions. Its 120Hz FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is also smaller.

Galaxy A56: more screen space

The A56’s 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD+ Super AMOLED display gives you a larger viewing area for video, reading and apps, in a taller and wider 198 g body. Both screens are specified for refresh rates up to 120Hz; the panel names differ, but those specifications alone do not establish which looks better.

What the camera hardware means in practice

The main distinction is the extra lens each phone includes. The S21 FE has a dedicated 8MP telephoto camera and Samsung lists up to 30x Space Zoom. The A56 has a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), plus a 5MP macro camera. Both also have a 12MP ultrawide camera.

This is a choice between camera options, not a proven quality ranking: megapixel counts and lens lists do not show which phone takes better photos. The S21 FE’s 32MP front camera has a higher stated resolution than the A56’s 12MP front camera, but that number alone cannot establish selfie quality.

Battery capacity, charging and water resistance

Charging trade-off

Samsung lists a typical 5,000mAh battery and up to 45W wired charging for the A56. The S21 FE’s listed typical capacity is 4,500mAh, with up to 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare for charging compatible devices. The A56 therefore leads on listed capacity and maximum wired charging rate; the S21 FE is the one with wireless charging and power sharing. These figures do not establish real-world battery life or charging duration, which depend on use and conditions.

IP ratings are not a waterproof guarantee

The S21 FE is rated IP68; Samsung says it is water-resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The A56 is IP67, rated for up to 1 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes under lab conditions. Samsung cautions that resistance can diminish with wear and says the A56 is not advised for beach or pool use. Neither rating means waterproof, permanent protection, or safe use in every kind of water.

Software support: the newer commitment belongs to the A56

Samsung’s A56 announcement promises up to six generations of Android/One UI upgrades and six years of security updates, with timing and availability varying by market. That is the newer published commitment between these phones.

The S21 FE’s update history depends on its exact model and region. For example, Samsung’s software update service records Android 16 / One UI 8.0 for model SM-G990E, with an update released September 17, 2026 and a security patch level of August 5, 2026. That record applies to SM-G990E, not every S21 FE; rollout details vary by country and carrier. Check the update status for the specific model you are considering rather than assuming a universal end date.

Price difference: why a current figure needs a market

A fair current price comparison needs the country and currency, date checked, seller, phone condition and matching RAM/storage configurations. Discounts and trade-in offers can also change the amount a buyer pays. Without those details, a single price difference would be misleading.

For historical context only, Samsung Newsroom India listed an introductory offer for the S21 FE from January 11–17, 2022: INR 49,999 for 8GB/128GB and INR 53,999 for 8GB/256GB. These were India-specific launch-period prices, not current S21 FE prices, and they cannot be compared directly with a current A56 listing.
