Short answer: Samsung documents holding the Side button and Volume Down together to open the Power menu, then tapping Power off twice. That normal shutdown requires a usable display. Samsung does not document a confirmed button-only sequence for selecting Power off when the screen cannot be used.
How to power off a Galaxy S20 FE normally
- Press and hold the Side button and Volume Down at the same time for a few seconds. Samsung says this opens the Power menu. Samsung Support’s power on/off instructions describe the menu step.
- When the menu appears, tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again to confirm.
The button combination opens a menu; it is not, by itself, proof of a completed shutdown. If the display is black, broken, or otherwise unusable, the documented steps do not explain how to select and confirm the menu option blindly.
What to do if the screen cannot be used
Samsung’s other power-menu routes also depend on interaction or prior setup. The Quick Settings power icon requires access to the screen. Bixby Voice may be an option only if voice control was already configured, and Samsung does not present it as a guaranteed screenless shutdown method. Exact availability can vary by model, software version, settings, and device condition.

If the Galaxy S20 FE is frozen
If the phone is unresponsive, press and hold the Side button and Volume Down until the device shuts down. Samsung says this forced procedure simulates a battery pull and may take up to 60 seconds. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for a phone that will not turn off also describes the action as a reboot. It is a recovery step, not a reliable way to leave the phone powered off; the device may restart.
If it still will not turn off
If the button hold does not resolve the problem, Samsung recommends requesting service. This is especially relevant when the phone remains unresponsive or the display failure prevents normal interaction.
