Which phone has the better display?
Choose the Galaxy M17 if resolution and panel type matter most: its listed 6.7-inch display is FHD+ Super AMOLED, compared with the Redmi’s larger 6.9-inch HD+ screen. The Redmi offers a higher listed refresh rate—up to 120Hz AdaptiveSync versus Samsung’s maximum 90Hz—so it may suit someone who prioritizes smoother scrolling and a larger viewing area. The specifications alone do not establish which screen looks better in use.

How do the cameras compare?
Samsung lists more detail about its rear-camera hardware: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera, plus a 13MP front camera. Xiaomi describes the Redmi 17 5G’s rear setup as a 50MP AI dual-camera system. That description does not provide a directly equivalent breakdown of all camera modules in the cited India page.
More megapixels or camera modules do not, by themselves, prove better photos. No directly comparable camera test for these India-market models is established here. Samsung’s OIS is a stated hardware feature, not proof of a particular result in low light or video.

Battery capacity, charging and regional differences
Xiaomi India lists a 7,900mAh typical battery, up to 45W charging and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging; it also says the 45W charger is included. Samsung lists a 5,000mAh typical battery and 25W charging, with the fast charger sold separately. On listed capacity and charging specifications, the Redmi has the advantage. Those figures do not establish real-world battery life, which depends on usage and conditions.
Check the region before relying on Redmi figures: Xiaomi’s global specifications page lists a 7,500mAh typical battery and says a power adapter is not included. Those differ from the India page’s 7,900mAh and in-box charger claims, so confirm the precise regional SKU and package contents with the seller.

Durability and software support
Samsung lists Gorilla Glass Victus and IP54 protection for the M17. Xiaomi India lists Gorilla Glass 7i and IP64 protection for the Redmi. These are manufacturer specifications; neither rating should be interpreted as permission to submerge a phone.
Samsung states that the M17 is eligible for six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Xiaomi India describes the Redmi 17 5G as running HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, with four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. These are the companies’ stated commitments, not independently verified update delivery. Samsung notes its plans may change, and Xiaomi says availability can vary by model or software.

What is the price difference in India?
A reliable current price difference cannot be calculated from the official India information cited here. Samsung’s 13 October 2025 announcement gave launch prices of ₹12,499 for 4GB/128GB, ₹13,999 for 6GB/128GB and ₹15,499 for 8GB/128GB; the base figure included a special launch offer. Xiaomi’s India product page does not state a price. Samsung’s product detail page showed “Not for sale” when accessed, but that page status does not prove the phone is generally unavailable and may change.
For a fair comparison, check both phones on the same day and match RAM and storage where possible. Compare the handset price separately from bank offers, exchange discounts, seller conditions and included accessories. Do not subtract a current listing for one phone from Samsung’s dated launch price and call the result today’s price difference.

Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the Redmi 17 5G if your priorities are the larger screen, higher listed refresh rate, greater stated battery capacity, faster charging or wired reverse charging.
- Consider the Galaxy M17 5G if you prefer an FHD+ Super AMOLED screen, a listed OIS-equipped main camera with an ultra-wide module, or Samsung’s stated six generations of OS upgrades.
