If your Galaxy is charging more slowly than expected, check Fast charging first. On current Samsung US instructions, the control is at Settings > Battery > Charging settings. Turning it on can restore a supported fast-charging mode, but Samsung does not say that leaving it off halves charging speed on every Galaxy; the “half speed for a year” experience is individual, not a general specification.
Turn on Fast charging
- Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Turn on Fast charging. If the menu or label differs, search Settings for “charging.” Samsung notes that only charging speeds supported by your device will appear. Samsung’s fast-charging instructions say the Fast charging and Super fast charging controls are combined into one Fast charging setting on Galaxy S23 series and later.
- Connect the phone to a wall outlet using a compatible cable and adapter. A PC or standard USB device may not provide fast charging.
Menu names and layouts can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s instructions establish that fast charging will not work when its setting is off, but do not establish a universal speed reduction or a year-long effect.
Check that the charger and cable match your Galaxy
Enabling the setting is not enough if the phone, adapter, and cable do not support the same charging tier. Samsung says Super Fast Charging is available only on select devices with a Samsung-approved 25W or 45W adapter. Confirm your exact phone model’s supported tier before replacing accessories; the speed depends on the device and connected charger. Samsung’s guidance does not make those adapters universal recommendations for every Galaxy.

For Samsung’s 45W–60W adapter recommendations, its troubleshooting guidance says to use a 5A-rated USB-C cable; a 3A cable may limit performance. That cable guidance applies to compatible setups in that power range, not to every Galaxy or charging tier. Samsung’s slow-charging troubleshooting page covers the cable and adapter factors.

If charging is still slow
Fast charging is affected by more than one setting. Samsung identifies accessory compatibility or damage, device temperature, port conditions, and battery settings as possible factors. Check these in turn:
- Heat: Let an overheated phone cool. Samsung says, “If the device temperature becomes too high, charging may stop temporarily or charging speed may decrease.”
- Port condition: Check for debris or moisture in the charging port. Avoid forcing anything into the port.
- Battery protection: Review the Battery protection setting, which can affect charging behavior.
- Accessories: Try a compatible, undamaged adapter and cable, connected to a wall outlet rather than a PC or standard USB device.
- Diagnostics: Run cable charging diagnostics in Samsung Members. If the problem persists, contact Samsung Support or a service center.

What the setting can—and cannot—explain
A disabled Fast charging control is a plausible reason a Galaxy may not enter a fast-charging mode its hardware supports. It does not prove that every slow charge is caused by that switch, nor that turning it off halves charging speed across Galaxy models. Actual speed also depends on the phone’s supported tier, charger, cable, temperature, and battery status.
