To see which apps use the most battery on a Galaxy, open Settings > Battery > View details. If your device uses a different layout, look under Battery and device care > Battery, then tap the battery graph or View details. The names and placement of these controls vary by model and software version.

Tap Battery. Samsung’s U.S. support instructions give this as the main route: Samsung Galaxy battery guidance.

Tap View details to inspect app battery use along with screen-on and screen-off time. Apps near the top of the usage list are the ones to investigate first.

If your Galaxy has a different Battery menu
On some Galaxy models and software versions, the route is Settings > Battery and device care > Battery. Tap the battery graph or View details to open app and feature usage. Samsung documents this alternate layout in its battery optimization guidance and notes that menu wording and paths can vary by Android version in its Galaxy battery optimization instructions.

If neither route matches, use the Settings search field and search for Battery. Open the result that leads to battery settings; labels may differ from the examples above.
How to interpret the usage list
The figures reflect recent activity and are estimates, not a universal efficiency rating. A high percentage does not by itself prove an app is faulty: usage depends on what you did, how long the app ran, and whether it worked in the background. Samsung also identifies environment and battery condition as factors that can affect drain in its Galaxy battery-drain guidance.

Use the list as a clue. If an app is unexpectedly high, consider whether you used it heavily or expected it to run in the background. Screen-on and screen-off times can help distinguish active use from background activity.

Limit background use only when it makes sense
Galaxy Device care provides options to put apps to sleep or deep sleep and limit background activity. These controls can reduce background operation, but they may affect how an app behaves. Samsung warns that sleeping apps may receive delayed updates or notifications; check its battery optimization guidance before restricting an app you rely on for timely alerts or background tasks.

Choose restrictions based on the app’s role rather than its position alone. A messaging, health, or security app may need background access; an app you rarely use may be a better candidate for sleep. Review the app’s behavior after changing a setting.
