If Samsung Galaxy apps crash only when mobile data is on, the symptom alone does not reveal whether the cause is one app, a shared phone setting, or the cellular network. Compare the same apps on Wi-Fi and cellular, then test one change at a time. That process narrows the cause without treating DNS, a VPN, or the carrier as a proven culprit.
First confirm what is failing
Write down the affected app names, what happens when each fails, your Galaxy model and Android/One UI version, carrier and country, and when the issue began. Note any app or system update, SIM or carrier change, VPN, firewall, ad blocker, or custom DNS setting that changed around the same time.
Separate an app that actually closes from one that remains open but reports that it cannot connect. Those are different symptoms and may point to different parts of the problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Turn Wi-Fi off so the phone must use mobile data, then reproduce the problem.
- Try more than one affected app, including an unrelated app if possible.
- Turn Wi-Fi back on and repeat the same actions in the same apps.
If only one app fails on cellular, begin with that app’s updates and settings. If unrelated apps fail together, shared phone or network settings become more useful areas to investigate. These patterns guide testing; they do not establish a diagnosis.

Make reversible changes before disruptive ones
Restart and update
Restart the phone, then install available Galaxy software and app updates. Samsung recommends checking software and related apps for updates as an early step in its general app-crash guidance. Menu names and locations can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s app-crash guide covers these checks and the app-level steps below.
Clear the affected app’s cache
If one app remains affected, clear its cache first. On many Galaxy phones, open Settings > Apps, select the app, choose Storage, then tap Clear cache. Labels can differ by version. Retest the app on mobile data before trying another change.

Clearing app data is more disruptive: Samsung warns that it can remove the app’s accounts, files, and settings. Confirm the app’s data is synced or backed up before using that option. Reinstall the app only if it remains broken and you can recover its data.

Use Safe mode to check for downloaded-app interference
Samsung Safe mode disables downloaded apps and loads the phone’s original software. Test mobile data in Safe mode and see whether the same problem occurs. Samsung’s instructions are in its Galaxy mobile-hotspot troubleshooting guide; the exact way to enter Safe mode may differ by model.

If the issue disappears in Safe mode, a downloaded app is implicated, but the test does not identify which app or setting is responsible. Review recently installed or changed apps and remove or disable them one at a time, retesting after each change. If installed, VPN, firewall, ad-blocking, security, and DNS-filtering apps are reasonable candidates to check—not established causes of this particular symptom.
Test DNS and VPN settings one at a time
If several unrelated apps are affected, check whether a custom Private DNS hostname, VPN, or network filter is active. Change one setting only, retest the same apps on cellular, and restore the original setting if the result does not change. Changing several settings together makes the result harder to interpret.

Google documents Android Private DNS options as Off, Automatic, or a provider hostname. The setting is generally under Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS on Android, though Samsung’s menus and availability vary by version. Google recommends leaving Private DNS on by default and says, “Private DNS helps secure only DNS questions and answers.” It is not a general-purpose VPN or a universal fix for crashes. See Google Android Help’s Private DNS instructions.
A VPN can affect some network functions: Samsung notes that a VPN service may need to be disabled for mobile hotspot tethering. That hotspot-specific guidance does not prove a VPN causes cellular-only app crashes. Treat disabling a VPN temporarily as a controlled test, not a diagnosis, and restore it if it makes no difference.

Separate a phone issue from a carrier or network issue
- Check whether ordinary web browsing works on mobile data, not just the affected apps.
- Confirm that the carrier account and data plan are active.
- If possible, compare with a different network, SIM, or compatible device. Change only one part of the setup at a time where practical.
- If only one app fails, check that app’s developer support or service-status information.
If several services have mobile-network problems, or the issue persists after software and settings checks, contact the carrier and Samsung support. A different-network comparison can help show whether the symptom follows the phone or the network, but it does not by itself prove the underlying cause.
Keep factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset erases device data, so back up important information before considering it. Samsung cautions that a reset may not permanently resolve an app bug that requires a later update. If you do reset, test mobile data before reinstalling downloaded apps; otherwise, an app or setting you removed during troubleshooting could be reintroduced before you know whether the reset helped.
