Samsung’s Process data only on device setting limits Galaxy AI processing to your phone, but it does not make every Galaxy AI feature work offline. Find it at Settings > Galaxy AI > Process data only on device. Which tools remain available without a connection depends on the feature, your Galaxy model, and its software version.
Turn on on-device processing
- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI.
- Turn on Process data only on device.
Samsung describes this as a control to restrict Galaxy AI processing to the device. The setting does not convert cloud-dependent tools into offline features. Samsung also notes that Galaxy AI availability can vary by device and software version. Samsung’s U.S. support guide gives this settings path and explains the distinction between on-device and cloud-based functions.
Which Galaxy AI features work offline?
Samsung’s S24-series feature table classifies the following functions as offline-capable. These are Samsung’s documented classifications for the S24 series, not a guarantee for every Galaxy device or software release.

Samsung’s S24-series guide also labels several tools as online-only: Notes auto-formatting, correction and summarization; Voice Recorder summaries; web-page summaries; and Generative Edit. Thus, an offline translation or transcription capability does not imply that every AI action in the same app is offline.

Prepare Interpreter before you lose service
Interpreter can be used offline, but the language resources you need may have to be downloaded in advance. Samsung’s setup instructions say to open Interpreter from Quick settings, select the two languages, add language packs if prompted, and allow microphone access when requested.
- Open Quick settings and launch Interpreter.
- Select the languages for the two speakers; download either language pack if the device asks.
- Grant microphone access if prompted.
- Use the microphone control to speak. Interpreter displays transcription in the speaker’s language and a written translation for the other person; it can also read the translation aloud.
Language availability can vary and may change. Samsung’s UK Interpreter setup guide, updated 14 November 2024, lists supported languages, but check the options on your device for the languages currently offered.

Why the setting or an offline feature may be missing
- Device or software support: Galaxy AI features and the processing control are not guaranteed on every model or software version. Samsung lists Galaxy S24 models among supported examples, but check current support details for your specific device.
- Feature-specific network requirements: Some Galaxy AI functions require internet access or an account, and offline support differs by action. The on-device setting does not remove those requirements.
- Unprepared language packs: If Interpreter needs a language download, install it while connected before relying on the feature offline.
Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy AI support page cautions that feature availability varies by device and software version. If you cannot find Galaxy AI in Settings or a listed tool is absent, consult Samsung’s current support information for your model and region rather than assuming the feature is available.
