Short answer: Buy the Galaxy A57 if you want the lighter, thinner design, IP68 protection, newer camera and AI features, and the later software starting point. The Galaxy A56 remains the better value when it is substantially cheaper and its cameras, charging, and IP67 rating meet your needs. Samsung’s model-specific update record shows the A57 receiving One UI 9 with Android 17 on October 12, 2026; A56 One UI 9 availability is still dependent on the exact model, country, and carrier.
Galaxy A57 vs. A56 at a glance
The A57 is an evolution rather than a complete redesign. Both phones use a 6.7-inch, up-to-120-Hz display, a 5,000 mAh typical battery, and a six-generation Android/One UI and six-year security-support promise. The newer model’s meaningful advantages are its reduced size and weight, IP68 rating, newer camera processing, faster charging system, and later software lifecycle.

Does the Galaxy A57 have One UI 9?
Yes, but distinguish its launch software from its later update. Samsung launched the A57 with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. Samsung’s update notice for model SM-A576B subsequently lists build A576BXXU6BZIE, Android 17, One UI 9, a September 5, 2026 security patch level, and a release date of October 12, 2026.
Samsung labels the software simply “One UI 9” in that notice; “One UI 9.0” in a comparison title refers to the same major release, not a separate A57 edition. The notice warns that the exact changes can differ by model, country, and service provider, so an A57 sold by a different carrier may show the update on another date or with a different feature list.

What One UI 9 changes on the A57
- More customizable Quick panel: Samsung describes additional control over the panel’s arrangement and appearance.
- Warranty and Care menu: A dedicated area brings device-support and warranty information together.
- Rapid phone lock: The feature can immediately lock the handset and disable biometrics for the next unlock, requiring the backup PIN, password, or pattern.
- Location-access indicator: The interface makes location access more visible when an app uses it.
- Samsung Health changes: The update includes revisions to Samsung’s health application, although the notice does not promise an identical feature set in every region.
To check an A57 manually, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. The model number appears under Settings > About phone; compare it with the model named in Samsung’s regional update notice rather than assuming that every A57 receives the same build simultaneously.
Has the Galaxy A56 received One UI 9?
There is no single worldwide answer. Samsung’s September 16, 2026 One UI 9 rollout announcement described expansion beginning with the Galaxy S26 series after the Fold8 and Flip8 launch, but it did not provide a Galaxy A56 rollout date. The cited Samsung record for model SM-A566B shows an Android 16 security update dated September 16, 2026 and One UI 8.5 feature notes dated May 19, 2026; those entries do not establish One UI 9 for that model at that time.
That is not proof that no A56 anywhere has One UI 9. Samsung distributes firmware by model variant, country, and service provider. Check Settings > Software update > Download and install on the actual phone, then verify the model code under About phone. A retailer’s generic “One UI 9 ready” wording is less reliable than the update screen for your device.

The A57 measures 161.5 × 76.8 × 6.9 mm and weighs 179 g. The A56 measures 162.2 × 77.5 × 7.4 mm and weighs 198 g. That is a 0.7 mm reduction in height, 0.7 mm reduction in width, and 0.5 mm reduction in thickness in Samsung’s listed dimensions, plus a 19 g weight reduction. Samsung’s launch material highlights the A57 as 0.5 mm thinner and 19 g lighter than its predecessor.

Those numbers are noticeable during one-handed use and in a pocket, especially for people who find a nearly 200 g phone tiring. The display diagonal remains 6.7 inches, so the A57 achieves the slimmer body without giving up the large-screen format. Dimensions can vary slightly with regional construction or measurement conventions; use the listed figures as specification comparisons, not a promise that every case or accessory is interchangeable.
Display: same size and refresh class, different branding
Both phones have a 6.7-inch FHD+ panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and Vision Booster. Samsung identifies the A57 panel as Super AMOLED+ and the A56 panel as Super AMOLED. The supplied specifications do not include instrumented brightness, color accuracy, outdoor legibility, response time, or side-by-side measurements, so it would be misleading to declare that the A57 is visibly superior in every condition.
For scrolling, games that support high refresh rates, and general navigation, both models target the same 120-Hz class. Choose based on body, camera, software, and price rather than expecting a radically larger or faster screen on the A57.

Galaxy A57 hardware and Samsung’s claims
Samsung lists a 50 MP wide camera, 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and 5 MP macro camera on the A57. Its launch announcement says the phone uses an upgraded image-signal processor and claims improved Nightography, image processing, and shutter response. Samsung also names software tools including Object Eraser, Best Face, Auto Trim, Voice Transcription, AI Select, multi-object recognition in Circle to Search, an upgraded Bixby, and Gemini integrations.

These are manufacturer-described capabilities. The cited material does not provide a controlled photo comparison against the A56, so camera quality in difficult lighting, skin tones, moving subjects, video stabilization, and macro usefulness remain questions for independent testing. Feature availability can depend on language, region, model, software version, and carrier.
Galaxy A56 hardware
Samsung lists a 50 MP main camera and 12 MP ultra-wide camera for the A56 and describes it as a triple-camera phone in its launch material. The shared headline resolutions mean the A57 is not automatically better in every scene. Its advantage is the newer processor and software stack Samsung says it developed for faster capture and low-light processing.
How to choose on camera needs
- Choose the A57 when quicker shutter response, Samsung’s newer AI editing tools, and the latest processing claims matter to you.
- Choose the A56 when you mainly take daylight snapshots and the price difference is large.
- Do not pay an A57 premium solely for the 50 MP label; both phones have a 50 MP primary-camera specification.
Battery life and charging
Each model lists a 5,000 mAh typical battery. Samsung’s A57 specification table also gives a 4,905 mAh rated minimum. Samsung says the A57 can last up to two days and reach 60% charge in around 30 minutes with Super Fast Charging 2.0. Those are conditional manufacturer figures, not a guarantee of two-day use or a universal charging time.
The A56 supports 45 W charging. Actual charging speed depends on the charger and cable, battery temperature, remaining charge, screen use, and whether the phone is being used while charging. The evidence here does not establish charger inclusion or regional bundle contents, so confirm what is in the box for the SKU you intend to buy.

Because capacity is the same, do not expect the A57 to have automatically longer endurance. Its newer processor, display settings, network conditions, camera use, gaming load, and software optimization will determine runtime. Independent battery testing is needed for a meaningful endurance ranking.
Performance, memory, and storage
The A56 launched with Samsung’s Exynos 1580 platform. The supplied A57 material establishes its software, camera processor, and storage options but does not provide comparable benchmark results or a processor-performance table. Avoid assuming that the A57 is faster in every workload without independent testing.
Samsung’s global A57 specification table lists four memory/storage combinations: 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, 8 GB with 256 GB, 12 GB with 256 GB, and 12 GB with 512 GB. Availability may differ by market. A 128 GB model suits lighter users; 256 GB is the safer choice for frequent video recording, offline media, or large games; 512 GB is useful only if the local price premium is reasonable. Verify the exact capacity in the retailer’s SKU and on the box because regional lineups are not identical.

Water and dust resistance: IP68 versus IP67
The A57 carries an IP68 rating, while the A56 carries IP67. In practical terms, the A57 has the higher certified level of water protection under the relevant test conditions. Neither rating makes a phone waterproof in every situation, and neither covers all forms of liquid exposure, high-pressure water, saltwater, chemical damage, or damage caused by wear and repair.

Do not deliberately submerge either phone, charge it while wet, or treat the rating as permanent after a drop or screen repair. Rinse and dry the device according to Samsung’s care guidance if it contacts liquid, and inspect the USB port before connecting a cable.

Samsung promises the A57 up to six generations of Android OS/One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. Samsung made a similar commitment for the A56 at launch: up to six generations of Android/One UI upgrades and six years of security updates.
The promise is similar in duration, but launch timing matters. Because the A57 launched with Android 16 while the A56 launched with Android 15, the A57 starts later in the support calendar. That can leave it on newer software for longer when both phones are maintained under their stated policies. Do not convert the promise into an exact final-update date without the regional policy for your model; “up to” allows for market and product-variant differences.

Price and value: use the local difference, not a made-up threshold
No same-country, current price comparison is established here. Prices vary by storage, taxes, promotions, carrier financing, and retailer. The right question is not whether the A57 is universally worth a particular amount more; it is whether the local premium buys features you will use.

Which phone should you buy?
Buy the Galaxy A57 if these advantages matter
- You want a 6.7-inch phone that weighs 179 g rather than 198 g.
- You prefer the A57’s 6.9 mm body and IP68 rating.
- You want the newer camera processor, Samsung’s stated Nightography and shutter improvements, and the latest AI features.
- You expect to keep the phone through several Android upgrades and value the later launch date.
- The local A57 price premium is acceptable for those benefits.
Buy the Galaxy A56 when value is the priority
- The A56 is substantially less expensive in the same storage class.
- A 6.7-inch, up-to-120-Hz AMOLED display and 5,000 mAh battery already meet your needs.
- You are comfortable with IP67 and do not need the A57’s newer software tools.
- You mainly take ordinary photos and do not want to pay for unverified processing improvements.
- The A56’s exact model has the updates and carrier support you require.
Check these details before ordering
- Confirm the model code. Open Settings > About phone on an existing device, or read the retailer’s full SKU. A576B and A566B are specific variants, not universal names for every market.
- Check current firmware availability. Use Settings > Software update > Download and install and Samsung’s update page for your country and carrier.
- Match storage. Compare 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB A57 versions at the same memory level; a low headline price may be for a smaller configuration.
- Verify the box contents. Charging speed claims do not establish that a compatible charger is included. Regional bundles differ.
- Check warranty and return terms. Confirm that the seller’s warranty applies in your country and that the device is not an imported carrier variant with delayed firmware.
- Price the difference on the day you buy. Recalculate after taxes, trade-in credits, and carrier conditions rather than relying on a launch-price comparison.
Final verdict
The Galaxy A57 is the more complete choice: it trims 19 g from the A56, is 0.5 mm thinner, raises ingress protection from IP67 to IP68, adds Samsung’s newer camera and AI capabilities, and has a later software starting point. Its model-specific SM-A576B record already shows One UI 9 and Android 17 released on October 12, 2026.
The Galaxy A56 is not obsolete. It keeps the same large 120-Hz-class display format and 5,000 mAh typical capacity, offers 45 W charging, and carries a comparable long-term update commitment. If its local price is meaningfully lower, it can be the smarter purchase. Make the decision using the exact regional model, current price, storage tier, and update status rather than assuming that every country receives the same firmware on the same day.
