The Galaxy A57 5G’s One UI 9 update adds two immediately useful privacy controls: a blue indicator that reveals when an app is using your location and a secure-lock action that disables biometrics at the next unlock. Samsung’s release notes do not identify a new battery-life setting or report a measured gain, so battery improvements require normal Android power-management choices that you verify on your updated phone.
First confirm that your A57 is running the same software discussed here, then apply the privacy controls and use the battery checklist. Menu names can vary by model, country, carrier and software build.
Confirm your Galaxy A57 is on the One UI 9 build
Samsung’s model-specific record for Galaxy A57 5G model SM-A576B lists One UI 9 in build A576BXXU6BZIE, released on 2026-10-12. The record identifies Android 17 and a 2026-09-05 security patch level. Availability and the exact change list can differ by device model, market and service provider.

Samsung’s UK product material still describes the phone as launching with One UI 8.5, and Samsung Mobile Press dates that launch to 2026-03-25. That is launch-era information, not evidence that One UI 9 is unavailable. Samsung Mobile Press also states a commitment of up to six generations of operating-system upgrades and up to six years of security updates.

Privacy settings documented for One UI 9
See which app is using your location
One UI 9 adds a visibility signal rather than an automatic block. Samsung states: “A blue indicator will appear at the top of the screen when an app accesses your location.” Tapping that indicator in the Quick panel identifies the app that made the access.
- When an app is using location, look at the top edge of the display for the blue indicator.
- Swipe down twice to open the full Quick panel.
- Tap the blue indicator. One UI should identify the app responsible for the current location access.
- If the access is unexpected, open Settings and search for Permission manager or Location permissions. Select the app and change its location access to the least permissive option that still supports the feature you need.
- Recheck the indicator after changing the permission. A missing indicator only means that no access is being reported at that moment; it does not prove that every location permission is disabled.
Use this control as an audit trigger. A navigation app, weather widget or emergency feature may legitimately request location, while a simple utility may not need it. Review the app’s stated purpose before revoking access, and remember that “Allow all the time” gives an app more access than “Allow only while using the app” when both choices are available.

Quickly lock the phone and require the fallback method
One UI 9 provides a secure-lock action for situations in which you want the next unlock to require your PIN, password or pattern. Samsung says that holding Volume down and Side together, or tapping the Power button in the Quick panel, securely locks the phone. Samsung’s notes add: “This prevents biometrics from being used the next time you unlock your phone.”

- Open the Quick panel by swiping down from the top of the display.
- Tap the Power icon, then choose the secure-lock action if it is shown. Alternatively, press and hold Volume down + Side at the same time.
- When the lock screen appears, unlock with your registered PIN, password or pattern. Fingerprint and face recognition should be unavailable for that first unlock.
This is useful before handing the phone to someone, entering a high-risk area, crossing a border or leaving the device unattended. It is different from simply pressing the Side key: an ordinary lock leaves biometric unlock available, while secure lock deliberately requires the fallback credential once.
Rearrange the Quick panel for faster privacy and power actions
Samsung’s One UI 9 notes allow Quick-panel controls to be rearranged. They also allow the brightness and volume sliders and the media player to be resized, and the sound-mode button to be separated from the volume slider.
- Swipe down twice to open the full Quick panel.
- Open the panel’s edit or layout control (usually the pencil or three-dot menu).
- Move frequently used controls, such as secure lock, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location and Power saving, toward the first page.
- Resize the brightness slider or media player if the default layout makes them difficult to reach.
- Save the arrangement and test it from the lock screen and from an unlocked screen.
This is a convenience change. Samsung does not claim that rearranging the panel itself saves battery. Its value is that you can lower brightness, disable a radio or start Power saving without searching through Settings.

Use the warranty and diagnostic menu as a health check
One UI 9 adds a settings menu that provides warranty information and diagnostic checks. It is a way to find device-care information, not a documented battery-optimization feature.

Battery settings: what is established and what is not
The Galaxy A57’s advertised battery is 5,000 mAh (typical). Samsung UK promotes “up to 2 days” between charges. Both figures are manufacturer claims: typical capacity is not a guaranteed usable capacity, and the two-day statement is not an independent test result. Screen brightness, network conditions, apps, signal strength, temperature and usage can produce very different runtimes.
Samsung’s One UI 9 update record for the A57 does not name a new battery setting and does not quantify a battery-life improvement. The practical approach is therefore to use the controls below as general Android guidance, verify their labels on your phone, and judge the result over several normal charge cycles rather than expecting a promised percentage gain.
Lower display demand when you need longer runtime
- Open Settings and search for Brightness. Turn off adaptive brightness temporarily if it is keeping the screen brighter than necessary, or leave it on and reduce the target brightness.
- Search for Screen timeout and select the shortest interval that does not interrupt your work.
- Search for Motion smoothness, Refresh rate or Display refresh rate. If One UI 9 offers a lower-power option, use it when scrolling smoothness is less important than endurance.
These controls trade visibility and fluidity for lower display activity. One UI 9’s A57 release record does not provide a laboratory measurement for any of them, so treat the result as device- and usage-dependent.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Limit background activity from apps you rarely use
- Open Settings and search for Battery or Battery usage.
- Review the list of apps using power while you are not actively using them.
- For an app that you rarely need in the background, open its battery controls and choose the most restrictive option that will not break notifications, synchronization or alarms.
- Uninstall apps you no longer use. Removing an app is more predictable than repeatedly forcing it to stop.
Do not restrict messaging, security, accessibility, health or navigation apps without checking the consequences. A sleeping app may stop timely notifications or background updates.

Use Power saving for a deliberate, temporary reduction
- Search Settings for Power saving or open the battery section.
- Read the options One UI presents, such as limiting background network use, reducing performance or disabling an always-on display.
- Enable the mode when you need extra runtime, then turn it off when you need unrestricted performance or immediate background updates.
Because Samsung’s A57 One UI 9 notes do not specify a new Power-saving behavior, record which options you enabled. That makes it easier to identify whether a missed notification or slower task came from the mode rather than from an app fault.
Reduce radios and location work when they are idle
- From the Quick panel, turn off Bluetooth, hotspot or other radios when you are not using them.
- Keep Wi-Fi enabled where you have a stable network; repeatedly searching for a weak cellular or Wi-Fi signal can consume more power than a steady connection.
- Use the location indicator to spot apps that are requesting location unnecessarily, then review their permissions through Settings.
Do not disable connectivity needed for emergency calls, wearables, authentication or accessibility. The goal is to remove idle work, not to make the phone unusable.
A practical settings decision table
| Control | Privacy effect | Battery effect | Convenience cost | One UI 9 status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blue location indicator | Shows which app is accessing location | None claimed; it is a visibility feature | Requires checking the indicator and permissions | Documented for the A57 update |
| Secure lock | Forces the fallback unlock method once and blocks biometrics for that unlock | None claimed | You must enter a PIN, password or pattern | Documented for the A57 update |
| Quick-panel rearrangement | Places privacy controls within quicker reach | No saving claimed | One-time layout adjustment | Documented for the A57 update |
| Brightness, timeout and refresh controls | None directly | May reduce display demand; no A57 One UI 9 measurement is supplied | Dimmer, shorter or less fluid display behavior | General guidance; verify labels on the phone |
| Background-app restrictions | Can reduce data exposure from idle apps | May reduce background drain; no A57 measurement is supplied | Delayed notifications or synchronization are possible | General guidance; verify labels on the phone |
| Power saving | None directly | Designed to reduce consumption; no A57 One UI 9 measurement is supplied | Performance and background features may be limited | General guidance; verify labels on the phone |
Verify the result instead of relying on a claim
After changing one group of settings, use the phone normally for at least one day and compare the battery-usage screen with a similar day. Keep brightness, network conditions and major apps reasonably consistent. If battery use worsens, undo the last change rather than changing several unrelated controls at once.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Check whether a single app dominates battery usage.
- Look for a weak-signal location, hotspot or Bluetooth accessory that remained active.
- Check whether a display setting is keeping the screen on longer than intended.
- Confirm that essential notifications still arrive after restricting background activity.
- Run the One UI 9 diagnostic check if the drain is sudden, the phone overheats or the battery percentage falls abnormally fast.
Troubleshooting the privacy controls
The blue location indicator never appears
Trigger location from an app that is expected to use it, then open the full Quick panel. If no indicator appears, confirm that the phone actually installed One UI 9 and that the app requested location at that moment. The indicator identifies active access; it is not a historical log of every request.

Secure lock still accepts a fingerprint or face
Use the exact Volume down plus Side-button combination, or the Power control in the Quick panel, rather than merely pressing the Side key. Wait for the lock screen, then test the first unlock. If the behavior differs, search Settings for secure lock and check the current help text for your regional build.
A battery change causes missed notifications
Return to the affected app’s battery controls and loosen the restriction. Messaging, calendar, health, security and navigation apps commonly depend on background work. Make one change at a time so you can identify the setting responsible.
Bottom line for Galaxy A57 owners
Install and verify One UI 9 before looking for its documented changes. The blue location indicator and secure-lock action are the clearest privacy improvements: one shows which app is accessing location, and the other makes the next unlock require your fallback credential. Use Quick-panel customization to put those actions and brightness controls where you can reach them quickly.
For battery life, start with brightness, timeout, refresh behavior, background activity, radios and Power saving, but treat them as general controls rather than One UI 9-specific promises. Samsung’s published A57 update notes do not establish a new battery setting or a measured gain, and the 5,000 mAh capacity and “up to 2 days” runtime are manufacturer specifications rather than guarantees.
